I started supporting after the merge so i couldn't care less :stuck_out_tongue:

I was a supporter since well before the merge and still couldn;t care less!

Mods, seeing we have a sack sheens superthread and a Lote megathread is it possible to have a 'my heritage team got dudded' superthread where every time one of these old chestnut threads get started it can just be merged in.
I reckon it will be the biggest thread ever: and only about 5 people will read it.

& of course only 1 thread is needed as we are one team now so whingers on either side should stay together.

I actually think there is a forum for the magpies only lol

I am content with Wests Tigers.

It was going to be Western Tigers or something similar but at the last minute the Wests side preferred WESTS Tigers.

Also, it is by far much, much better than the reported Balmain - Parramatta takeover. With Fitzgerald telling everybody they will be called the Parramatta Tigers but 9/10's Eels players, the Eels coach etc.

And just a small side note: Everybody forgets that South Sydney appealed their case and won after being kicked out but the ARL (?) appealed that result as well. Correct if I am wrong but I believe that the ARL appeal won but they decided to allow Souths back in only because of the sentiment from the marches etc. Legally they were gone.

To be honest, before I started visiting this forum, I had fully accepted the merger, but when someone raises this topic and keyboard brawls break out, it angers me and brings on hatred, when one side of the merger bags the other. It is what it is, let's move on, now let's get back to acceptance.

There is some legitimacy in the claims no doubt, I can see how it would be hard to take and get under your skin if that perception is out there.

All we can do is come together as a fanbase, support our team and keep the histories that bought us to this point relevant and recognised.

Don't turn it into an argument, understand the passion and hurt that can bring about a post like the orignal and try to make sure there is less of a reason for it to occur. Don't argue as it is pointless because there is no right and wrong answers in all of this.

My personal belief is that we are moving in the right direction, the club has made some good calls in regard to football operations through the grades and there has been noticeable corrections made by commentators and an effort to use the full name of our club thus recognising the history it represnts. The club has been very active in getting this message to all regular commentators and pundits within the game.

Remember too that Wests Tigers is a "joint-venture" between Balmain and Wests.

That means Wests Magpies and Balmain Tigers own this "separate" entity called Wests Tigers that competes in the NRL, NYC and from 2013 NSW cup.

Balmain and Wests haven't "merged", the Wests Tigers aren't a combination of Wests and Balmain they are a franchise that represents the two clubs.

Eventually the WT's will most likely cannibalise the parent entities (which is already happening) and that's something we all must support, we are moving ahead, getting bigger, stronger and more powerful all the time.

Let's get behind the WT's and forget all this us and them rubbish!!

Almost every team is called mostly by their 'mascot' name than their location name. Not just the tigers.
In that regard the Balmain side doesn't really get much more recognition than Wests. Yes our jerseys are predominately orange/gold but that's only natural because that's a tigers colours. We have the magpie on our levee but not an old Balmain logo. I feel the club has always made the right steps in attempting to keep both sides happy while still embracing the Wests Tigers brand. If you are really unhappy about the lack of your sides representation in the Merge than you better have until now supported the Wests/BRET NSW cup team otherwise you can't be that unhappy about it. Magpies fans if you wanna see the Magpies run around in 2013 get yourself to some Bundy Cup games.

Two points in the statement are factually incorrect:
Everyone? No.
Tigers always? No.

If anyones paying attention there are numerous times theyre referred to as Wests, in print, radio, TV…..and like Souths are referred to as Rabbitohs, Cronulla as Sharks, Manly as Sea eagles etc etc...we too are often referred to as Tigers....our mascot

Yeah yeah, I threw in a line, your not the fish I was after. On first grade, I'd say I've played the same amount as you, giving us equal rights to give our opinions on past and present players.

I'm sure Souths won in court,the ARL didn't back down,although they did run a great PR/media campaign.

Fitzgerald was very positive with regards to a merger with the Tigers,he said publicly he didn't like the Eels logo which was very brave(or stupid) and even had worked out the Parramatta Tiger would have a Sky background to get the Parra. Blue in.If we had gone in with Parra. i'm sure the Eels logo would be back by now judging by the ex-player invovlment/interference out there.
I'm also content with the merger,great outcome for both Clubs,you can't fight City Hall and you can't stop progress,the number of Bowling Clubs that have closed in Sydney is an example of that.
