i am so sick and tired of everyone just calling Wests Tigers as Tigers….i have been a West Supporter for as long as i can remember, and my daughters God Father is John Purcell, Hooker for Wests in 1974...;.I really hate the fact that Wests have lost their identity, and i am finding it very hard to support them...no-body seems to bother about it, and no-one seems to have the intestinal fortitude to fight for the cause...I really wish West's could have gone out on their own like Souths have...
 
Sue we would never have survived in my opinion without the amalgamation

Many of us still have the black and white bird in our hearts and our souls , but the present and the future is the Wests Tigers and I for one can live with that

Better than having nothing at all ,been there done that and it still hurts
 
i could say the same thing about Balmain… You have WESTS as the main title..

i think people need to get over the fact of the merger, and accept the WESTS TIGERS as a team...The Western Suberbs are no more, the Balmain Tigers are no more.. if you are finding it hard to follow the team over something so small, i think u need to get a new deck of cards and deal with them

We (WESTS TIGERS) are approaching our 14th season, if you haven't embraced the merger yet then you never will. But I'm sure you were cheering in 2005, after a tough year, these threads always appear.

I don't think anyone was happy about having to merge when it happened but once I accepted it, i personally thought that Balmain and Wests was a better fit than the failed Northern Eagles where Manly were the dominate stakeholders or likewise with St George Illawarra were Saints are the dominate stakeholders. Both pre merger clubs still have a pathway for the juniors to make it to the NRL until they get to the 20's were they come under the WT umbrella.

As someone who was four when the merge occurred, I've never really been a supporter of either team. As an unbiased onlooker, I feel that the internal division between former Wests and Balmain supporters is a mark against Wests Tigers name and always drags us down. Balmain and Western Suburbs no longer exist. The Wests Tigers are our team, and they are one single identity. So why can't the fans be one single identity? Why can't the supporters communicate as Wests Tigers fans instead of communicating as fans of two different teams. That's why these threads are stupid. They achieve nothing other than dividing the supporters. If you can't accept the team we are, then they're not your team. Find another.

Yes this 'topic' had been brought up a million times… I must however state there is a significant DIFFERENCE when it comes to certain terminology.. That is 'Not accepting the JV' which 99.9% of us do accept and the other being 'Identity and recognition of the Wests branding within WT' - people seem to mix the two together. Yes we ALL must accept WT as the team we all love and follow but WT must also serve its purpose as a business and sporting legacy of Wests & Balmain. If ex-Balmain WT fans and non WT fans acknowledge today (and openly admit) that there is a weak presence of Wests branding in WT then there is a legitimacy to ones questioning in feeling emotionally detached from WT for that very reason (footy teams are in our blood). I kindly ask all here to respect that rather than the 'we are tigers now and everyone calls us tigers so get over it' response.

The JV is going reasonably well although i'm sure both boards have contingincy plans in place.I followed the process of the merger very closely as my Uncle was involved in the Balmain side of things,Wests were gone,they didn't have the money or the high profile support that Souths had,to try and fight for survival a 2nd time around.Although some high profile people like Benny & Alan Jones made a lot of noise Balmain did not meet the criteria for an NRL club and probaly would have followed a season or 2 later.
The merger is a win for both clubs,the supporters have a team to barrack for and the powers to be want a NRL club based in Western Sydney so the JV/Team,in some form,will be around in the future you would think.

Two points in the statement are factually incorrect:
Everyone? No.
Tigers always? No.

If anyones paying attention there are numerous times theyre referred to as Wests, in print, radio, TV…..and like Souths are referred to as Rabbitohs, Cronulla as Sharks, Manly as Sea eagles etc etc...we too are often referred to as Tigers....our mascot

T-Rexx spot on....its a petty petty issue imo

I agree. I would have rather kept "Balmain" in out title and lose "Tigers"….

Much rather have my area recognised than some bloody symbol. Balmain magpies might not be ver marketable but i would much prefer that.

So tired of the whinging.....get the hell over it. When u feel like sooking, think about your kids and grand kids and ask yourself if they are going to care....cos they wont......and guess what?? Their our future and all that matters

If youre not happy with these automatic, thoughtless, innacurate & unfeeling replies…..have a look at the claims being made.....

...theyre just as innacurate, so the replies are I guess reflective of that.

I was a supporter since well before the merge and still couldn;t care less!

Mods, seeing we have a sack sheens superthread and a Lote megathread is it possible to have a 'my heritage team got dudded' superthread where every time one of these old chestnut threads get started it can just be merged in.
I reckon it will be the biggest thread ever: and only about 5 people will read it.

& of course only 1 thread is needed as we are one team now so whingers on either side should stay together.
