Lost opportunity in Macarthur

Souths have signed a ground breaking partnership with Macarthur FC.

Wests Tigers are losing the region to Souths and even Penrith..... What is our strategy for our footprint??

Honestly, I don't know, but think we may be giving up out there. Wests Magpies Canterbury Cup team has moved from Campbelltown.

Maybe a majority of Souths fan live in the South West now, and WT fans live all over the place and many have a strong connection with Sydney FC in any case.

I definitely think club bosses see our future as being in the Inner-West. Our membership, crowd attendance and general support is much bigger in this locality. And with the centre of excellence coming at Concord I think this is the area our focus should be on.

Apparently Souths have 10,000 members in south west Sydney.
That’s half our membership base.

I’d agree it seems we’ve given up. We are still playing 3 games at Campbelltown stadium. But I would think a future full time move to either Bank West or ANZ is looking more likely.

Where has the Canterbury Cup team relocated to?

I'm supportive of where managementarea heading in terms of the football operations.

But, they have really failed to outline a strategic direction for the club, or footprint and our identity.

If we have given up on Macarthur, serious questions need to be asked in the board. I get that we are controlled by Ashfield and that corporate dollar is located inner city.

But, looking long term, inner city gentrifies, we get less and less juniors. Meanwhile, per finger such as Macarthur, have growing populations which NRLs traditional demographic.

If A League can put together a business case to have a fulltime club based there and Souths see it as a strategic area.

I live in Melbourne, and all the AFL clubs are building a presence in the outer suburbs because thats where the supporters are. Hawthorn have moved to Dingkey, Melbourne to casey, bombers to tullamarine, etc

We already have a presence there, we should be leveraging our strategic advantage

Lidcombe Oval

Extremely disappointing that Wests Tigers didn't do this. Shows how little they care for Sydney's south west.

Exactly mate absolutely spot on, but the club hasn't cares about the MacArthur region for years because none of the people who own the joint are from here. A lot of the good Group 6 juniors end up at other clubs and I've even heard of people from here interested in sponsoring the club getting no reply from the club at all.

Good on South's for identifying and activating a strategic plan of theirs to gain a foothold in to the Campbelltown area. That have had this strategy for a few years now

It's a shame our club hasn't been more proactive in heading this off. It's one of they few failures that I hold the current administration responsible for. A lot of people blame Pascoe and the like for everything including global warming but this right here is a failure of the administration. One of the few they are actually responsible for

South's did this to the Roosters many years ago and stole a big chunk of their junior base. This time they are after 'our' fanbase and rookies and are trying to claim to an area that is rightfully ours.

For the die hard Magpie fans who never understood the hate Balmain supporters had for South Sydney hopefully now you can see who they are as a club and how they operate.

I believe that the CC team aren’t playing out of Campbelltown due to Macarthur FC signing a $10 10 year lease with Campbelltown council to be the primary tenants of Campbelltown Stadium. The a league is playing through much of the league season and draws would have clashed regularly.

Hated with a passion since 1909, and I wasn't even born back then.

If that is the decision of the club bosses:
All directors should be immediately fired and sent packing.

Penrith has become an incredibly strong team by fostering the mountains and the growth out of the Juniors in that area.
Campbelltown and Macarthur have always been a gateway to Camden and the Southwest. Now though Camden is a real estate boom to rival Kellyville. What was once pasture is now houses on houses on houses.

Saying our growth is in the inner city being 9-16th while Easts and South's get more premiereship rings is a joke. We could dominate South west Sydney and bring a talentpool about the size of Penrith's but hey who needs long term thinking.

Very disappointing

But maybe we are doing our best in these contested areas but other clubs are muscling in

Time for the element of surprise and hit them where it hurts from out of nowhere

In their backyard

Come on tigers

Get proactive

I don't know that the support is there for a NRL club.
