Lote Tuqiri thread

Well if he pulls a swifty on us it could make his daily life in Birchgrove a bit more interesting!

And soccer clubs have players on loan or for short stints all the time…

I really hope our plan is not to introduce him in May. We should forget about him if that is the case. Missing the preseason so he can play that sick joke of a game where a man with a whistle runs around with 30 "players" for decoration is bad enough. Turning up in May is not on.

…though it could be just another statement from Lote to cover up on the "done deal" that isn't a done deal due to NRL restrictions.

Yossarian, that's true that football clubs have short term players.

I guess the thing here though is that Lote himself has come out and actually said he's there until May.

Why would he say that unless he intends to be there until May?

Has he said that? I don't recall any direct quote from Lote to that effect.

I don't want to knock Anderson Silva, who is obviously just passing on what he's heard. However, essentially, all you blokes are presuming Tuqiri is coming here + will be here for season's kick off based solely on a guy on the net posting it. Nothing wrong with that.

But this is straight from the actual player himself. Direct quote from Tuqiri. Seems pretty clear he isn't coming any earlier than May and who knows if he'll even come.

QUOTE below: which part of it is not clear?????? Seems pretty definite.

**"I have had no contact with Wests Tigers. This is pure speculation in the Australian press," Tuqiri told the Leicester Mercury.\
\
"I haven't signed or done anything with Wests Tigers and I am certainly looking forward to being here until May."**

Does anyone else find it extremely amusing that all those newspaper articles on Lote signing with us pretty much came about because the journalist was reading this thread? I have to say the thought of that gives me a big chuckle.

Settle mate - I wasn't saying he didn't say it, I just hadn't seen that particular quote.

That same article also says:

_Tigers coach Richard Cockerill refused to be drawn on the length of Tuqiri's contract, but it is thought to expire before the end of the season._

So you can't really be too sure what the truth is…

But check that quote out… 'I have had no contact with the Wests Tigers'.

We all know that isn't true based on his Twitter for one. I think he is just trying to quash all this pre-contract arrangement chat to ensure his contact here is signed without any hassles.

I think he will come over during May though and stay for the 2 1/2 years. He could slot into the wing easily on his return.

He might not be moved to fullback this year. We have a cracker in Lazarus anyway if he stays fit.

IF he turns up in May for a 1 season contract then no point.
IF he turns up in May for a 3 year contract (which will mean he can;t head off in the middle or mr numpty gallop will cry) then I can live with it.

The big thing with Tuqiri is that he's got a history of stringing clubs along and basically talking BS to suit whatever agenda / deal he's got going elsewhere. I agree with you mate that if it's a three year deal, then it would be acceptable. I just can't see him "restricting" himself to RL for three years when he could earn a hell of a lot more in Japan, the UK etc. If he wants to come back here in May for a one year deal, then he is dead set kidding.

He's not exactly the brightest bloke in the world. He released his **own** twitter message saying "I am running around crossing the Ts and dotting the I(s).

And then said "why are journalists making up stuff that I am talking to clubs or signing contracts"?!

Hello…............

He tells everyone here he's "only been talking" to Wests.............but then tells the journos over in the UK "I have had no contact with Wests Tigers".

I'd say his word is worth zero at this stage. So I hope the club have got something in writing.

Better still, we put the $400 000 towards two new forwards.

It's all an 'IF' but it's a fairly positive sounding if.
esp. if the other strong rumour about Lima is correct as well.
We should know whats happening within the next few months

Your last line says it all,I have been against this whole Tuqiri thing from the start, sure he would be good for sponsorship, but to play him at fullback over one of our own is ridiculious,he is a winger, and he ain't worth $400k to us.

I don't want to sound negative, but for me anyway a $400 000 player needs to:

1\. Be incredibly dedicated to the club. Lote= no.
2\. Full of ambition. Tuqiri said his prime motive to return to play RL was "to taste Origin again". Yeah, good luck with that…..........arrive in May and expect to play Origin. Dead set joke. Obviously $$ in the UK mean more than Origin.
3\. Huge money = need to be a key position player. A 7....A 9......Or a really impactful prop who leads a young pack (like Petro).

A winger? Hell no.

It's not my decision, but I sure wouldn't be spending $400 000 on a bloke who meets NONE of those conditions.

He will not be costing the Wests Tigers $400K

Glenn - do you know the terms of the contract that doesn't exist?

i know, i know - 3rd party

but there has to be a contract first for it not to cost us something.

Of course not and the whole concept of the Contract is hypothetical. All we can go on is reports and they stated that its around $400k, with a little over $200k coming from the Tigers.

In that case I think the money is about right, but I am just sick of many people saying we would be better off buying "two props with that $400K". We arnt and cant spend $400k. The $200k that we are spending supposedly on Lote would buy a pretty good, not great prop. A third party would not be interested in chipping in for a prop.

Just trying to add some sense.

I look at things at a different way. Imagine the site of Lote running through a hole Benji created. I wonder how many people will say he's a waste when he scores 8 out of very 10 holes he's put through. With Lot playing fullback he'll have a license to roam and inject himself wherever and whenever he wants. There's not many players in the NRL that are as devastating as him in that aspect and I think that will be a nice luxury for us to have.
