I have a question.

It seems like Lote has agreed to a deal with us, but hasnt signed due to the NRL rule. So legally, he could back out of the deal at anytime, correct?

What happens if his family love it over there, combined with the higher earnings to be made? He'll drop us at the last minute wont he?

Ummm…..that's a really good question......I think the answer is ........nothing we could do.....

If he decides to take up an offer from Irish ping pong.....it's bye bye Lote...........

At least we would still have a tad over 200k to spend.......

Yeah we would Geo , unfortunately there'd be no one left to spend it on…Whilst he has been dicking us around everyone else of quality would have been re-signed....

I am so over this greedy union reject,we are bending over backwards for a guy who could be useless,7 years out of the game, geez he better be worth all this pandering, personally I think we should tell him to go jump.

I hear you 851 but seriously….he will be ok on the field, probably not electrifying. He has experience which bodes well for the young guys and a large part of the Wests interest in Lote I believe is the marketing it could pursue using his name. So many kids followed this guy in union...they may become Wests Tigers fans next year.

This is an interesting issue. I assume that no formal contract has been entered into in which case he can certainly withdraw from the deal should he change his mind. This is somewhat like a Memorandum of Understanding or Letter of Intent which in many cases have litte legal effect in terms of binding a party to a transaction but are very common place in commercial negotiations and are effectively agreements to agree. In fact, sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars will be spent on drafting a memorandum of understanding or letter of intent.

A more interesting question is whether a contract has been entered, will it be enforceable given that it has not been registered with the NRL. This would depend upon the terms of the contract. I would assume that most (if not all) playing contracts would include a clause that a condition precedent to the contract coming into effect is that it be registered without the NRL. But you could, I guess, make it so that failure of the NRL to register the contract is the only basis for withdrawing from the deal.

Ultimately as with most commercial transactions its highly likely that the parties know where they stand and if Lote decides eventually not to come then so be it.

Quest for trophies drove Lote Tuqiri to UK

LOTE Tuqiri's hunger to win trophies after seven years of drought in Aussie rugby was a prime motivation for the axed Wallaby to sign with English giants Leicester.

The cash has always been important in Tuqiri's perennially protracted contract dealings but his hunger to win significant silverware for the first time since his Brisbane Broncos days is clear in his hook-up with English rugby.

"I didn't just want to go and be in a place where you get forgotten about and it becomes more of a retirement package than anything else," Tuqiri, 30, told his new Leicester fans. "I still have that competitive edge in me and Leicester are a successful club that wins championships. I decided that I wanted to play in a competitive team.

"This club wins titles and plays well in Europe."

Tuqiri is expected to return to Australia for the NRL season and announce his signing with Wests Tigers.

Winger Tuqiri never got his hands on the Bledisloe Cup in his 2003-09 career with the Wallabies before his breaking of team rules in June ended with his contract being torn up.

He scored a try but lost the 2003 World Cup final to England, his closest shot at the Tri-Nations crown was a squandered 17-7 lead in last year's "final" against the All Blacks in Brisbane and he tasted defeat in two Super rugby finals with NSW.

Leicester are the reigning English champions and contest strongly for the Heineken Cup which Wallabies skipper Rocky Elsom savoured with Irish side Leinster earlier this year.

Leicester are embracing Tuqiri on a short-term deal but with an option of an extension if both parties are comfortable.

"There are some really good players here; it's a challenge I am totally looking forward to," Tuqiri told The Leicester Mercury newspaper of joining the likes of Aaron Mauger, Ben Kay, Derick Hougaard and Toby Flood at the club.

you would think the trouble the club has gone to with 3rd party deals and bent over backwards to secure his services that he would of signed a letter of agreement of some sort that is filed in the "never to be seen by NRL head honchos" cabinet

Is his family going with him?

I may be wrong, but I heard his wife has a business in Balmain (Chiro or physio) and their kid has been enrolled in a Balmain school.

I don't think he is over there for the long haul

There would be some kind of agreement in place, even if the NRL hasn't sanctioned it yet or even know about it.
An NRL club can't be kep up in he air over a major signing like that, it effects recruitment far too much.

all my mail was pointing to an early to mid week announcement, then i got word there was a slight problem with one part of the 3rd party agreement that should of been resolved by friday.

but this news today came from no where, like ive stated previously, no where along my grape vine did i hear that UK rugby was an option let alone him being days away from signing with a team over there, so i dont know how much truth there is to this story, because one of my sources is very high in the WT organisation and the other is in the sydney media.

**and i will reveal both names of my sources if tuquiri does sign over there.** I still have it on good authority that he will be playing for us next year but this UK union thing is disturbing

I can't wait for this!! :sunglasses:

C'mon man!! Don't keep us all in the dark!! Spill the beans!! 😱pen_mouth:

It will be interesting to see who 'high up' in the Wests Tigers organisation is actually releasing this type of information, but the media identity clearly has no idea whats going on considering the UK deal has been talked about for a few weeks now

you spill yours first….

c'mon! who told you that Carney was a tiger?

Damn, that article is ridiculously STUPID. First he says Lote's desire for "trophies" drove him to England. If we were to believe that Lote ain't just gonna stay for a few months, 'cause how many "trophies" could he win in that period of time?

But then he says the deal is short-term and he's coming back to play for us.

STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID.

Also if Lote decides to stay in the UK or sign with someone else there is nothing the tigers can do without blantanly admitting they went behind the NRL's back.
Even if they have an agreement of some kind they have to keep quite and live with it.

Like I said last week, him and Lime have already signed, They cant formally say he has signed they leaked the so CALLED RUMOURS out on purpose to push memberships which is a great idea as they cant formally say it, Lima will be announced befroe christmas when he is back from the tour.

Lote has got family here and a goood source has also said his mrs doesnt want to go no where except balmain to live thats why he had signed nothing earlier when he got the sack, if this pig accepts an offer extension overseas for bigger bcuks to compared to the big dollars we arranged for him, the guy simply doesnt deserve to be a tiger, so dont stress he will play as a WESTS TIGER next season!!!

u dont sign a short term contract if u know u have something 100% to fall back onto.. specailly if its about earning the most he can..

him going there is a good thing for us..

Him and Lima will be good for 2010… bring it on

I seriously dont think moltzen will handle halfback full time, this is where the tigers have erred, we need a specialist half back if we are to be any type of threat next year.forget lote, sign a halfback..

Robbie's attacking game nullifies the need for a genuine halfback. When Moltzen played at 7 he complemented the team nicely.

Lote is/will be an interesting signing. He will be good for us, but we're hardly suffering a desperate shortage of backs - not in the no.1 anyway. I'd also be interested to see him on kick returns, his positional play, under the high ball etc. He's a big bloke, his kick returns could be brutal. But we'll have to wait and see.

Like the sound of that adamtiger. Care to share the nature of your source?

how does robbies attacking game nullify the need for a genuine halfback? good genuine halfbacks run todays games, look what thurstan, kimmorley, prince, orford, etc do for their clubs. forget lote, start focusing on thurstan.

Not disagreeing with you, but if we look at the teams taht probably have the best hookers after Robbie, Canterbury & Melbourne, neither has what you would describe as a dominant or genuine halfback. Both were very successful this year.
