I have been questioning whether Lote has signed with us, and I guess I was always on the side to believe that we do have an agreement with him. Now I have just spoke to one of my best mates, who has a friend who works with tim sheens' son. He said (what we've heard before) that he has agreed to play with us, he just cant announce it because of David Gallops RULES! I guess we will not hear anything official till his union deal runs out. But I guess everyon can beleieve anything they want…and I know, I know...im sure we all have a friend who knows a friend whos neighbour knows this guy whos girlfriends cat...I could go on and on!

There is absolutely nothing in the rules of the NRL that says he can not make the announcement now.

Sure,but it would look suss.

If the deal is done there is no hurry to announce…...... make it look like a last minute decision, keep the monkeys off our backs.

It doesn't matter when it's announced, when it does get announced all the media will be saying it is rugby leagues worst kept secret blah blah blah.

I dare say ay announcement won't be made until the new year, it let's the tiges keep the press away from training so they can focus on next season and let's lote focus on making his comeback in peace over in england.

Lote Tuqiri made his first appearance for the Tigers last night … even if he was 16,974 kilometres from Leichhardt Oval.

Playing top-level rugby for the first time in five months, Tuqiri made a memorable debut for Leicester as the English side upset world champions South Africa 22-17 on Friday night.

He came off the bench with 20 minutes to go and impressed for the Tigers as the Springboks endured a horror start to their northern hemisphere tour at Welford Road.

It was the first big-game hit-out for the dual international since the Australian Rugby Union tore up his Wallabies contract over an undisclosed breach. Tuqiri subsequently signed with Leicester on a short-term deal which will allow him to return to the NRL next season.

Although Wests Tigers officials are denying that a deal has been struck for fear of incurring the wrath of NRL boss David Gallop, Tuqiri will turn out for the joint-venture club should he finish his European stint unscathed.

Gallop has made it clear that he won't register an NRL contract for Tuqiri if he also has a deal to play rugby overseas.

While Tuqiri made his name as a blockbusting winger in rugby union and league, Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens believes they will get maximum bang for their buck by handing him the No.1 jersey in 2010.

''If we were able to bring Lote to the club, I'll leave it to Tim as to what position he would play,'' Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphries said. ''Tim has floated the prospect of him playing fullback at some point.''

Tigers recruitment manager Warren McDonnell, who also stressed that no deal had been done, added: ''If we got him early to train with the team and got him fit, you'd start him at fullback.

''If you don't get him for the pre-season, you'd probably start him on the wing until you got his fitness up. That's probably what we'd be looking at doing.''

The 2005 premiers have rotated a number of players through the fullback role since Brett Hodgson left for Huddersfield, but none have cemented the spot. Tuqiri is viewed as the man to make the custodian role his own.

Meanwhile, Karmichael Hunt will have to wait to make his professional rugby debut for Biarritz in the Top 14.

''Our game got washed out tonight! i guess i wont be able to get a run for a few weeks now …'' Hunt said via Twitter during the week.

The former Brisbane Bronco will have to wait until after the break for the autumn internationals in the northern hemisphere to make his debut.

Except this maybe????…......

Except that the tigers could easily contest it if the contract wasn't honoured…it is the same as the Timana Tahu scenario, except Tuqiri wouldn't be under contract for the specified date, unlike Tahu. Technically it is less wrong than the Tahu situation. Gallop is just being an idiot.

Geo I think you are reading that wrongly. Once Tiquiri starts / started his rugby stint, he is free to officially negotiate his next contract. i think what gallop meant was that he wont register a contract if he isn't in his current contract first off.

I agree with you….but he has to finish his Rugby stint first,,,,,,,before Gallop will register his contract....so what would be the point of announcing WHAT......cant be seen to be contracted whilst playing union O/S...

OR

Although Wests Tigers officials are denying that a deal has been struck for **fear of incurring the wrath of NRL boss David Gallop,** Tuqiri will turn out for the joint-venture club should he finish his European stint unscathed.

Humphrey's has said that....... IF Lote was to return to the NRL the Wests Tigers would be interested......which given the circumstances is all he can say.......that's the way I read it....

There's like so much going on behind the scenes it's not funny.

For all we know Gallop has to Humphries it's fine, but please don't make the announcement until later int he season.

Perhaps we want to wait until two weeks before the season starts to maximise publicity. If we were to announce now, it'd all be a little bit anti-climatic with Lote overseas and the season 4 months away. If we wait until two weeks before the season starts there'll be an incredible amount of hype.

And then maybe we haven't signed him.

I think we should just settle with there being a strong possibility that he'll be here next year. However, we (as a collective) can't be certain until the announcement is made.

yes, the detail is hard to see and the harder you look the more doubtful it seems

but then you step back, look at the basic evidence and realise that the truth has been so obvious all along!

If they had've announced Lote had signed with WT before he signed to Union, would Marshall's manager sue the NRL for restrictive trade and having a different set of rules for another player??
