I havent seen Lote play a truly outstanding Rugby game in several seasons

I havent seen a good game of rugby ever.

Loser / retirement game

Lote will make a good Full back in 2010.

Geex there is some mixed opinions, coming- not coming, winger - fullback, bench - waltz straight in…..

I reckon its already a done deal and has been since before he left for the UK. Handshake agreement anyway. Just waiting for it to become official.

Imo you don't pay big bucks for a guy to sit on the bench... thats ridiclous. You dont throw him into the State Cup either. I'm sure Sheens mentioned some months back that Lote would start on the wing with the possibility of playing fullback. For me its as clear as daylight... start him on the wing for Ryan and give him a few games to see how he's travelling. if his form is good and he has enough pace and footwork then consider a run at fullback.

Personally I think he fits our squad best as a winger, even though he'll be one of the highest paid in the team (Isreal Falou). Leaving fullback for one of the many contenders in Moltzen, Taumata, Lazarus, Brown, Mullaney etc...

I'm not sure of his current attributes as far as speed, hands under the high ball etc... but even if he's lost alot of that, I'm still very confident he'd make a strong finisher on the wing racking up plenty of tries through pure size and height. Thats how i see it.

I'd hate to see him play centre at the expense of Ayshford. Wing please.

Why do we need our so called superstar playing off season rugby, bloody ridiculious.

Mate it's a reflection on the pathetic management of the NRL… I don't think it's a good idea for every off-season and tbh i doubt his body could handle it. I have a feeling the article has made a mistake on this one... it is from the telecrap

I agree Kaiser, I think the idiotic Josh Massoud has just thrown in an unsubstantiated comment towards the end to fill out the article. I cannot see that he will be playing union in the off-season. Hopefully, we will see him here sooner rather than mid-way through the season!!

I'm hoping Leicester Tigers are planning to ditch him (or he has an out clause) as soon as the players that he is covering return from injury…

Lote will be a real bonus for the club going forward, but i,m dissappointed he is not doing the pre season here with the tiges as i think the benifits of fitness and readiness outweighs the lolly pop union he is playing at the moment. But it's definatly a positive.

Why will he?

Why won't he?

Well for a start he hasn't played the game in 7 years…watch chooseday night football the games changed a bit since 2002........plus I don't think he has ever played fullback in Rugby League....Meh ......should pick it up no problems very similar to playing on the wing in Union........

Then there's the fact that by all reports he will come here mid season...

Still haven't heard anyone put up a reason why he will be a good fullback.........

I used to watch a reasonable amount of union & Lote was definitely the pick of the 3 big name signings. So, just for you geo, here's a few reasons:
He's tall.
Quite good hands both catch & pass & under the highball.
Strong runner who can beat a man with power and/ or pace (probably down a bit on pace now)
He always put the effort in on ground & that included the odd bit of aggro & passion.

Does this mean he will be a great fullback - not necessarily. Positioning & defence will be his big tests. Personally I think his defence will be up to it, not sure on the positioning.
Time will tell.
Do I think he's a good signing - yes. For the above reasons and the exposure he'll bring to the Tiges.

From NRL perspective the difference is Benji IS currently a contracted NRL player who wanted to go to RU then come back, all within a season.
Lote was NOT a contracted NRL player so he can do what he likes I guess, but he shouldnt be allowed to do it 2011 season if NRL consistent
Interesting how we all accuse the Rorters,Parra etc of salary cap breaches, but weve managed to fit 4 marquee players at around $400k each under our cap(Benji,Robbie,Ellis & now Lote).Bet other clubs websites have tongues wagging!

regardless of where he does play, he will get tested, alot.
honestly, do any of us have any idea of how long it will take him to re-adjust to NRL footy.
no we don't.
it could be quick or take 8-9 games.
it is out of our control, and unfortunately, we just going to have to be patient.

Yes Farah and Benji are obviously on good wickets at around that $400k per season. Ellis was appaently on a 3 year $900k contract. Lote is not on $400k - he is loaded with 3rd party sponsorship. Lote's contract value is in the vicinity of $150k.

Well that is good to hear….....Look I have no doubt Lote is a great athlete........and I hope he really does kill it and be that X factor he is bieng made out to be by some....

It's also fantastic for the Club to get such a player on top of the talent we already have here....Lote returning to Rugby League is Huge......I just hope it's as Huge on the field as well..........

After two months of the 2010 NRL competition the Wests Tigers sit in 2nd spot after 6 wins and a couple of close losses (ripped off by ref decisions! lol). Youngster Jake Mullaney is the leading try scorer with 10 tries. Mullaney after impressive trial form was given the nod to start the year at fullback before evergreen Lote Tuquri joins the club in round 9\. Tim Sheens will have a pleasant headache next Tuesday before he announces the team.

Dragons possibly signing Ganier mid-season

ONE of the most famous names in rugby league could be headed back to St George Illawarra midway through next season, with Mark Gasnier being linked to a possible NRL return.
The development comes 15 months after Gasnier left the Dragons for French rugby with two years to run on his contract after the club failed to come up with $1 million in third-party payments. But with his two-year, $2 million deal with Stade Francais in the French Top 14 due to expire at the start of June, Gasnier has indicated he is contemplating a return to the NRL in July.
>
Dragons chief executive Peter Doust confirmed they would be interested in bringing Gasnier back to the club. "The classic comment from the club is we're always interested in quality players and how they might fit into our cap and our structure and our roster going forward," Doust said.
>
"And Mark is a huge name in the game and also in respect of our club, so we'd be very much interested in discussing what his plans are for the future when and if that opportunity arises."
>
The move would mean the former St George Illawarra captain would abandon plans to feature in the 2011 rugby World Cup in New Zealand. Gasnier has spent the past 15 months in Paris trying to adapt to the technicalities of rugby union.
>
His possible return would provide St George Illawarra with a strike centre, something missing last season when new coach Wayne Bennett used defensive specialists Matt Cooper and Beau Scott.
>
Gasnier's agent George Mimis confirmed his client would be assessing his direction early next year. "It's flattering to know that there's interest in Mark at this very early stage," Mimis said. "We haven't as yet seriously considered any options beyond his current contract at Stade Francais, but we will be looking to do so early in the new year."

Wonder what Gallop will do about this

What can he do….If Gasnier is off contract..............surely he can't prevent him from signing and registering an NRL Contract..

Mr Gallop's issue is with players having "Guest stints" in rival codes whilst contracted to an NRL Club.....that's a No-No........That's Why Gower, $BW, Gaz left and Benji couldn't take off to Japan Rugby.......

Gasnier just like Lortay will be welcomed back with open arms.....fanfare blazing........just like Rogers.Tahu and the Dell before them.......

I can see Gallop calling it a Coup.........There's no better game than Rugby League........

On Lote...will this thread reach 100 pages before the announcement.......

I reckon we have 1 week..........
