Lote Tuqiri

Everyone is debating whether Benji should be given the last 4 games in first grade. However I think Lote is more deserving. Potter gave him a big wrap saying his attitude has been first class all year and how we has had a good influence on the youngsters. For a bloke who has spent the best part of 3 seasons injured, i think that sort of professional approach he has carried himself with is a real feather in his cap. He could have easily thrown in the towel and just retired or dropped off in attitude. Obviously he has no issues with playing in the NSW cup last week. He strikes me as the sort of bloke who doesn't have this big ego around him, just a good bloke.

Now we all know he is in the twilight and most likely in his last season. However we should give him the last month and see if he can rekindle some form. I think on character alone and perseverance he deserves a place ahead of Ayshford and some of the youngsters would be thrilled to play along side him. Yes we have a lot of talented outside bakcs with youth and pace on their side, however Lote can still maybe help in mentoring them on a low wage next year. Maybe it would be worht giving him another year, if we are not going to make any real big signings, just for some depth and to have a guy of his character round.

We are heading towards a phase of rebuilding with a young list. These guys will develop quicker with good senior characters around them. Guys like Moltzen, Ayshford, Marshall I would have to question their character and thats why I am glad they are going. However a guy like Lote maybe he can still offer something to the place even if not heavily on the field. I just hope we can get into first grade and play a few good games, because I thik its been pretty sad what has happened to him. He was awesome in 2010 and injuries, rather then poor form have dead set destroyed him.

Can't say I agree. Defensively there is a few concerns. I think it would be massively unfair on Lote to be thrown back into the NRL and expect greatness. He needs match fitness and confidence before returning to the NRL.

However, he may get the call if David Nofoaluma is out with injury. Matt Utai is also out with a broken jaw. and Jy Hitchcox joked on Twitter that he can't play against the Roosters since he has other work commitments

Sure he would be well short of a run. I would just like him to see 1st grade before the year is out. Would be a reward for all his efforts to get back. Would rather have a good character like Lote having a crack in he centres then a pea heart like Ayshford.

I think it would be more damaging for him with his confidence if he is thrown back in because he is cover but because he has earned the spot. Based on his game last week, I can't see him playing first grade. I would be very surprised if he is named today.

I think he's a big chance. Moltzen, Koro, Lawrence Utai, Reddy are all out. Second tier cap issues. Ayshford is going horrible. Only really leaves Tedesco, Noafulama and Simona as walk up starts.

Lote deserves to go out a winner more than benji. The man is class and a great role model a lesson benji can take notice of.

If Lote doesn't play who else does - with Koroibete and Utai injuring themselves on the weekend and with cap issues I'd say Lote is the only option

Lote is a top block but i think his position is best filled by the young boys.Maybe give him some game time over the next few weeks??? You neve know???Got to love his attitude and he is a fantastic guy off the field.

Tuqiri looms large for Potter after cup run

Lote Tuqiri is poised to make his long-awaited NRL comeback against the Roosters on Monday night. In a rare piece of good news for Wests Tigers, Tuqiri emerged unscathed in his return in their NSW Cup loss to Cronulla on Saturday. The news wasn't as positive for fellow former international winger Matt Utai, who broke his jaw during the second-tier fixture.

Tuqiri hasn't played in the NRL since breaking his arm against Canterbury in July, and there were fears his career was over after he needed a second round of biceps surgery. But the dual international is in the frame for first-grade selection after a series of injuries to coach Mick Potter's outside backs.

Marika Koroibete suffered a serious facial injury in Friday night's defeat to Parramatta, joining the likes of Utai, Chris Lawrence and Joel Reddy on the sidelines.

Potter, who has carried himself with great dignity despite intense scrutiny on his future, revealed Tuqiri could be named when the teams are announced on Tuesday.

''He might be fortuitous in that he might be Steve Bradbury. They've all fallen over and he's come through,'' Potter quipped. ''Good luck to him. He's a really good guy and his attitude has been nothing but first class. He's a good man and you want him right beside you when things get tough.

''I'm a little bit short with outside backs at the moment. Chris Lawrence is out, so I've got Tim Simona playing in the centres. Marika fractured his cheek or eye socket on the weekend and Joel Reddy is out. He might get a chance.''

Tuqiri was rusty in the opening half against the Sharks but made some good runs in the second stanza in a well-beaten side. ''I thought he was solid,'' Potter said.

Ha that's funny from Hitchcox. Sadly he must realise the salary cap means no matter how well he is playing he won't be getting a run.

Lote is behind Koroibete, Nofoaluma, and Simona on our best wingers list.

If he plays it should not be at the expense of anyone other than Ayshford.

Even then, I'd be more inclined to play Fulton at centre. He's a better defender and the Roosters play wide of the ruck more than any other side,

Give him another week in NSW Cup. From all reports he only started playing good in the second half, in a team that got spanked by 40.

In my opinion, he hasn't proven, form wise, that's he ready yet.

Lote's defense is very suspect. His body is also not taking the hits well these days and injuries are taking their toll. We need to keep these young blokes in first grade and look to next season. Dropping one of these young guys for a "has-been" can only have a negative effect on the psyche of the young guys.

Yes but the young blokes are injured - Koroibete is injured and won't play this week - So who do you suggest other then Lote especially given our cap issues and the amount of inexperience we have already. Simona, nofoaluma and Ayshford will play as we have no one else

Picking a winger from the North Ryde hawks A grade side would be a better proposition that Lote. Experience means nothing at this stage of the season given our position on the ladder. We need to blood new blokes who are interested in playing for us next year. It is time we relied on our juniors to fill gaps in our first grade team. If we get well beat next week, well then that's an experience for them. You have to think that this scenario will give Potter an opportunity to see what his juniors are like and if they can't cut the mustard then it gives him more leverage to get into the market for 2014.

Would be a perfect time to give Hitchcox a run.

True competitor

Jy is a good player, but he's too good a ball player and not the worlds best under the high ball to have on the wing.

I saw a lot of him when he was with the Storm NSW Cup side in 2010.

He went so well at five-eighth, he pushed Widdop to Fullback (the year Widdop made his Test debut)
