Luke Brooks #167

I think there is interest, but other clubs downplay it.

Unlike chairman Lee who gives a radio interview every time we speak to anyone

People are talking way too early in relation to Brooks not getting a contract. Let's wait and see how this plays out.

So we are reduced to running last better with Brooks than with out Brooks. It's time to move on if he is not committed to the club.

Yep. I'd love Brooks to stay but only because all I care about is winning games. If he doesn't want too though just move on.

The issue will how the club handles developing a spine over the medium and longer term.

This year is over. It was probably over when we had such a poor start but it was definitely over when we lost our best two players in Api and Brooks. The club literally threw last year away.

The big problem is we are looking like throwing away next season at the very least at this point. It's hard to keep watching.

He is so overrated on here and I was one of the muppets who overrated him.
Don't think he was overrated at all. His deficiencies are well noted by everyone. As a team, we played better with him than without him because he was comfortable directing play.

Interesting. I suppose it's your perspective. I think I overrated him and I've read heaps of positive comments towards Hastings on here.

I don't think we played better with him. I think a bunch of us saw someone who was directing play and Brooks appears to struggle with that but I think it was something we made up. I think we were better with Brooks and Wakeham in the halves.

We would never have needed Hastings if it wasnt for Brooks deficiencies. He is now considered a running 5/8th by many. It's never been about comparing them as individuals it's about what a team needs to gel.

I don't believe your premise. I was trumpeting a Hastings/Doueihi halves combination. I think I was just seeing what I wanted to see rather than what was actually happening.

Brooks to me has completely outperformed Hastings and Doueihi. I don't think it's even close.

I understand the 6 on the jumper idea but I don't view it that way now. I'd give him the 6 jumper but I'd give it to him to manage the fans expectations. I think Brooks ideally is your secondary half and he is a good one. I don't think it's organizing or anything like that. I think Brooks is an average or in this market an above average half and you need either a super team around him or a better half beside him.

I don't think making a team gel is complex and all sorts of things can work. I watched the NBA finals this year and the Nuggets won and it's hard to say what exactly made them click. It's not a formula.

Lol he was offered a contract at his market value and reportedly turned it down.
You could buy another clubs back up for less and get the same out put.
You are wasting your time, Brooks is the answer because the market sucks apparently they keep telling us. Let’s just forget about the quality of the 200 games thus far, if Brooks was as good as they think he is, he would be over run with offers, and that is just not happening

We offered Johnson the same money as Moses?
Are you sure? That sounds wrong.
Maybe I am wrong, but I heard 1.2 or 1.4 (moses Money).

When I heard it I thought "We can't be that stupid". Yet since we signed Mbye, I kinda think "yes we can".

The rumour about Brooks possibly receiving a slightly upgraded contract would make for interesting times. If true, the final figure would not be that much less than his last contract when you take away the backloading.

I totally get the point of any change is better then sticking with what hasn't worked, and I sympathise with those who are at there wits end in regards to keeping Brooks, it must be frustrating. Sadly the market for halves is shot, and when you consider we need to sign two starters and a back up, I'm in the retain Brooks camp. However, if he stays, I believe we need to commit to him being our 6 and 6 only.

Then the task comes to find an adequate 7 that can do the things Brooks has struggled with, like talking, kicking under pressure, straightening the attack etc.

You can't invest in someone who wants out. I'm all for copping Brooks for another couple of years if he wants to be here but he has reportedly said he is leaving - that is quite different to wanting a better deal than was offered. The coach has publically gone to bat for him - can't see how the favour has been returned.

The coach blocked him leaving last offseason.
He probably feels he doesn’t owe him shit 🤣
