Luke Brooks #167

Brooks has copped plenty of criticism from fans - some definitely unjust - but fans follow a club not Brooks and some clearly have seen enough.
Sheens has been appointed to coach all the players not Brooks alone - fans identify with the club not Brooks - and the club for all its failures has looked after Brooks very well. Every coach he has had has publically backed him and continue to do so. When the team starts winning with Brooks part of that everyone will be happy until then those who don't rate him will continue to be critical.

Iyo. How else can a forum operate other than on performance.
K, I agree that personal slurs, abuse etc are not welcome but in the court of public opinion, at least far as as I’m concerned, it revolves around expectation and actual performance and I don’t think that he has performed as expected.
Being in the public eye promotes opinions, some people wrongly go the personal route, others like myself prefer to analyse the facts.
And the facts are he’s been bloody disappointing in his output, and if that’s not justified and self inflicted then I’m not here.

That's a much more measured response
than your earlier one, I agree to an extent.
Analysis and criticism of his game are
warranted but the thin line gets very
blurry beyond that. That's my opinion.

The guy has been garbage and THE biggest reason the Tigers haven't made the finals in 10 years essentially playing without an NRL quality half back the entire time.

All criticism is completely justified. Being a childish sook about it, with daddy Sheens and his family members accounts trying to pointlessly defend him doesn't wash away 10 years of being pathetic at your job, only justifies the majorities opinion further on him. Not only being a weak player but weak minded and should be nowhere near a position of directing a team around. Little wonder as soon as a bad call goes against the Tigers the team always dropped it's head, imagine how fragile the guy in the middle has been. The half we had last year with heart, bite, and a personality was let go.

The critisim of late has been nothing. He has until round 10, if the Tigers are not at least 7-3 the daggers and vitriol towards him will be more than anything seen before.
Winston, Brooks has Marshall and Sheens in his corner backing him, two handy supporters. I don't believe any player that has a career of ten years in the NRL is garbage. Shockingly for you, supporters other than family members and Sheens/Marshall back Brooks as well. This may surprise you as much as when you claimed Singapore was a fortress only to discover the back door was open.

Exactly, which is why I am hoping he turns back the clock, and if the Pom is correct, he will have even more support !
I hope he goes very well coz that means the team will be going well ( or at least that’s the way it’s supposed to go !)

Same sentiment written differently. K, we are on the same side and want the same outcome !
Cheers

We all want to back Brooksy. Likeable, but has been underperforming ( yes I know, for various reasons) Just needs to sharpen up ! Sheens says, score more tries, I can live with that.
His support from TS, BM and RF needs to translate to on field performance, otherwise its simply the old mates act.

I love how it's now considered abuse by the Brooks family accounts if you call into question 10 years of rubbish and pathetic performances. Besides being called an imp or dwarf due to his looks, I haven't seen anyone abuse Luke the person on here just the Tigers playmaker, Luke "pathetic rubbish" Brooks. And if imp and dwarf gets you pearl clutching, what's said on the footy field is a few degrees north of that, I don't think footy is for you if that got your knickers in a knot.

Not exclusive to WTF, much worse has
been said at our games, on various
other social media sites, in public etc.
Doesn't make someone who wants
him/the team 2 go good delusional,
or a family member haha. It's all good

That is a head scratcher. I’ve seen the bullying term thrown around by the select few Brooks family members but all I can remember is Imp? The rest is being critical of his lack of football skills. You know, his job.

It’s almost worth bombing another season with Brooks just to wait for the inevitable fail and they can go join whatever super league forum at the club he pops up at and haunt there.
It's pretty obvious at this stage it's some sort of Stockholm syndrome thing going on. There is zero reasons besides the obvious family accounts that anyone can justify giving him another 11th season chance, unless we have some wolves in sheep's clothing going on here.

Im going to repeat myself just this once...any fan, supporter or member has a varying amount of reasons for criticising Luke, myself included...
Having said that we can back and fro abuse toward him or each other until the cows come home,it wont make one iota of difference if Luke doesnt improve his game this season coming..
He has some wonderful recruits of high calibre alongside of him as well as great youth of high potential to work with this year, plus the Sheens factor, which remains to be seen after 10 years out of the NRL,so if all the media hysteria is on the money and players ,coaches and staff are all enjoying the new feeling of happiness and fun in this preseason and a very good attitude throughout the club, then success awaits us and many good wins are ahead....lets all start cheering and supporting this TEAM like never before,we hit rock bottom last year and the only way to fix that pain which the team inflicted upon itself, not entirely the whole team or individuals fault,is to pick themselves up,dust the dirt off and go hard from the start and redeem themselves.....
WINNING CHANGES EVERYTHING AND EASES THE PAIN...

It’s wrong to take it to that level, all I’d say( forcefully)if I was in earshot would be
“Come on Brooks lift your game to the required level. We need you firing, Let’s go”
Or words to that effect.
But you and I both know some of the things that people say and write are
1) driven by frustration and anger and,
2) not being able to express their feelings logically.
I hope we’ve taken this discussion as far as it needs to go.
Cheers mate.

I honestly would love to see Brooks go well as it would mean the Tigers go well and the opposite of everything that's happened with him in the team so far. The justified critisim of him being pathetic at his job would immediacy cease. The problem is when you have a decade of evidence to back up him being rubbish it's impossible for the rational to see past that. If Brooks is playing like his busted usual self by rd10 it would be nice if the apologists could finally admit how wrong they have been. Although it'll probably be the usual just give him another season thing they always go on about.

We've a strong forward pack (now) and are attempting to recruit one of the best 7s in the competition. It would be difficult for Kenny and Sterling to operate effectively behind the pack we previously ran onto the field.

There are also a few fast young backs on the horizon in the lower grades who will strengthen our team without the need to go to market.

In addition, from what we know the coaching team want the players to return to a more attacking game which imo will better suit many of our players including Brooks.

Sheens and Marshall will no doubt have Brooks performing to a role which matches his skillset which differs from the one size fits all approach of the last few years.

So there are a package of improvements which hopefully will see the club on the periphery of the 8 with better performances.

Speaking of Sharks , nasty headline about Nicho Haynes Mum today.
That’s got get into his head until sorted, and could get even worse if allegations proved correct.
I think he’s already a bit fragile and working with a pscyhologist.
Don’t do anything stupid Nicho.

‘I was ready to go’: Legend’s pep talk convinced Brooks to stay at Tigers

Luke Brooks has revealed he was ready to quit Wests Tigers – until a heart-to-heart with Benji Marshall reignited his excitement for the season ahead.

Brooks also confirmed he had been in regular contact with good friend Mitchell Moses about returning to the club, and said the pair would “like a shot at playing together again”.

Canterbury boss Phil Gould confirmed the Bulldogs, once considered the frontrunners for Moses’ services, were no longer interested – leaving the Tigers locked in a battle with Parramatta for his signature.
“We never made an offer for Mitchell Moses – we asked that if he was thinking about leaving Parramatta, we’d like to be considered,” Gould told the Herald.

“We hadn’t heard anything from Mitchell or his manager since November. We never really thought he would leave Eels anyway.
“We had the opportunity to sign young Karl Oloapu from the Broncos last week and moved in that direction. We are very happy with that signing.”

Brooks’ future at the Tigers has been under the microscope in the past few seasons because of his mixed form and whopping price tag, which exceeds $1 million this year because of a heavily back-ended contract. The continued scrutiny led him to considering a fresh start towards the end of last season.
“There was a point towards the back end of last year I was ready to go, and I felt like I needed a change,” Brooks told the Herald.

“But a couple of weeks before coming back to pre-season training, I spoke with Benji a few times, then sat back and had a look at what the club was doing, who they were bringing in, and I started getting excited. It did feel like a fresh change for me.

“Benji said to me, ‘We obviously want you here, but if you want to go elsewhere, do what’s best for you’.”
Entering his 11th season in the top grade, Brooks said he was eager to build on his halves combination with another off-contract Tiger, Adam Doueihi.
Doueihi has played 51 games in three seasons at the Tigers, but only 16 games in the halves with Brooks. Moses is good friends with Brooks while he also has the Lebanon World Cup connection to Doueihi.

Brooks said he had been doing his best to woo Moses back to the same club he ditched midway through 2017.

Coach Tim Sheens confirmed last week the Tigers had made contact with Moses, but “it will be Mitch’s call”.
“I’ve spoken to Mitch a bit, I’ve tried to suss him out and sell the joint [to him],” Brooks said. “We’ve spoken about it before about how we were really young the last time we played together, and we’d like a shot at playing together again. I don’t know where his head is at.
“We know each other’s game back to front. Being close mates helps as well – he lives two minutes away, and we had daughters born two weeks apart. It would be good for him to come here.”

Sheens and Marshall have told Brooks to run the ball more and be “greedy”, especially close to the opposition’s try line.
Doueihi, like Brooks, is in no rush to thrash out his own future beyond this season and simply wants to build his combination with his little halfback.
“I’m not in a rush to sign anywhere or do anything – playing good footy will sort it out,” Doueihi said.
