Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

Some work there mate....
All that aside - Kicking for touch and not gaining ground has been a thing since the Benji and Robbie days,

I never ever understood it. Surely it's on purpose?
Every time Benji tried to get ground he wouldn't find touch....
It's a free march down the field which we don't take.

It's utterly moronic and incredibly infuriating!!!

I don't believe he is tanking. He is trying. He just doesn't have the game plan or the confidence to do anything. He won't grubber any more scared to kick dead. Won't try a 40/20. Scared to kick out on the full. He's a left foot kicker playing on the wrong side of the ruck. Is it his fault? Or do u think it's the coach... I think current situation does not serve brooks well at half. I see him as a running 9 for this year...
He just plays so poorly that it looks like he could be tanking. But I agree, I don't think he is tanking purposely.

I asked coaching staff about it more than 10 years ago...
The answer was "Because Benji likes plenty of room to put on his set moves"
at the time, There was a stat that we scored the most long range tries...
so I thought there could be something in it?

Funny you should mention Brooks playing on the wrong side...Robinson let Keary and Walker do what they thought was best for the combination, low and behold they swapped sides against the Rabbits and it worked far better for them...
Just a thought for our combination....

Tough one.
Sure he may of asked for a release twice in the off season but what if the tigers said, “if your breaking your contract, your giving up your salary?”
Would that have made him change his mind and reconfirm his ‘love’ for the club?

I don’t disagree with you. My problem now is he is the only one who is getting the forensic analysis from the masses. How’d Peachey go yesterday. Hint - worse than Luke.
I saw yesterday as a "normal" performance from Brooks. Picking safe kicks, short/safe passes to forwards and occasionally runs the ball.

Peachey was awful as was Ken and numerous others. Brooks cops it because he's been here for so long and hasn't changed.

Rather than just give up Brooksy, we should go for some sort of player swap. Pretty much anyone we get would improve us. Let's go back to the Raiders and see if we can't get Savage or one of their 2nd rowers? They lost to the Cowboys, so are probably desperate enough to try something that isn't working for a team going worse than themselves. Maybe even just a player swap for the rest of the year. Let's try something........

Just move Madden into half and let Brooksy taste reserve grade for some time to at least get some confidence in his game as it appears to be in a shattered shape for some time now without a chance to regain it

3. Brooks 15 min Penalty kick from centre field. Gained 10m. Very bad kick.
5. Brooks 22 min penalty kick. Gain of 5 metres. Very bad kick.
6. Brooks 25 min penalty kick. 1m gain. Very bad kick.
13. Brooks 71 min penalty kick. 10 min gain. Very bad kick.

This is a great post, and I just want to comment on these (see my post about Brooks never gaining any metres from kicks for touch).

There's no pressure on a kick for touch, it's literally you, the ball, and your ability.

The guy bottles kicks for touch... Like I don't unerstand how people give him a pass for this.

How did a half manage to make it through all the underage squads/comps without being able to kick for touch?

Is it a mental thing? is it an ability thing?

I mean, this is such a glaring/massive hole for someone who plays 7 (or even 6) , it makes me think that our junior talent identification is based on luck and nothing else.

Could you imagine if there was a half who couln't pass the ball right to left? That's basically the handicap we have.

I just saw Harry Kane (Tottenham Spurs) kick a soft drink bottle accurately. If you can, you can!

I would let Brooks go main reason he is average and now is getting pounded by the tigers supports , yes man up and don’t worry about it but I don’t think he has the
at metal in him to do this , Harris Tevita from Warrior would slot in at about half the price , fresh face and tough

Brooks is an effort player. Make him responsible for backing up line breaks (no one does it) and give kicking role to the other half. That simple change worth at least six points a game. It's well overdue.
Good post. We can't afford to get rid of him so to get the best out of him, he just has to be a ball distributor. kicker and support player. His biggest weakness is running game and passing game.

Laurie/Jacko/AD can be the runners/ ball players.

His kicking game is shocking but still the best in our team. His role would be similar to Soward at the Dragons in 08/09/10. Just stand 15m behind the ruck and bomb.
