Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

My memory is not the best so I'm not trying to be a smarty pants by saying....when have we had a solid free of holes rebuild.
It seems all we do is go out and spend up huge on any so called rep players without thinking of the long term effect on the team.
We've let the boat leak all over the place.
We have had quality players come through like Teddy and Mitch but our team structure, front office and coaching has made it easy for other clubs to pitch them.
For the first time in a long time I'm seeing a proper change.
I really don't care too much about where we sit on the table as long as I can see progress and there is light at the end of the tunnel.
That glimmer if light is next year.
I just hope we don't make any dumb purchases to save Madge and undo what we're trying to achieve.
I think we'll get some good media when the COE is up and running.
It's a pity the completion was disrupted by COVID and rain because we could do with some positive media at the moment.

Sorry that was kinda my point. That the trajectory of player development would naturally come from the club's systems and roster quality.
The better the team the better the opportunities to learn and grow - at a more optimal rate.

Fair enough if that was your point. Reynolds was a pivotal part of their success. He would make the Tigers a much better side with his ability.

Which is pretty much what all his bashers say. They seem to believe he plays this way out of choice or is just lazy. Like it’s as easy as just to flick a switch and he’ll start playing like Nathan Cleary.

I think the hard part for most to cop is he hasn't always been terrible. His debut was amazing and he's had a number of high quality games along the way however it's also fair to say he has massively regressed in recent years, following his 2018 Dally M half of the year award. Also fair to say he's not always had the weight of success/failure solely on his shoulders as there's been years he's had a fair bit of talent around him and the team has still failed.

There are many factors that have contributed along the way whether that be coaching changes, personell overhauls, lack of confidence or game plans becoming too structured etc. In saying that in no other industry I can think of would anyone still have a job paying 1M a year and increasing each year after failing to deliver results for 9yrs.

Whether getting rid of Brooks is right for both parties is irrellevant however it is necessary. He just doesn't have what it takes to ice games and that's evident. He goes missing or comes up with the wrong plays constantly. Takes on the line on tackle 4 then out of position on tackle 5 when the team needs him most. Doesn't have the ability to move the team around the field to where he needs them to be. Has possibly the worst long kicking game in the comp among other 7s. Appears confused/lost more times than not and is often surprised when plays do actually work.

Some of these faults lead back to the coaches but most fall squarely on him. Until the Tigers and himself accept that then prepare for more of the same over the coming seasons.

He will never take a game by the scruff of the neck and dominate it.

It's not even this extreme. He won't do this regularly or well enough to be the main focus of your team. So people view him as being the halfback who we need to come up with the big play at a critical time and he just isn't that player.

If you view Brooks as a role player who just has to help out and he had a spine around him that were going to win games for you than it wouldn't be a problem.

Personally I don't see how he stays in the halves at all.

He could play alongside a Munster or even Burton at Dogs and prob do ok, he's just not a game managing half in any sense. I've seen more from Hynes in 4 games to suggest he has more game managing abilites than Brooks does and Hynes was a legit 6 growing up not a game manager.

Until the club cleanses itself of constant failure by removing those who've been a part of it for so long then they'll continue to dish up the same results.

Long bow to draw with your "rep" players...
Maybe I should have said Current Rep Players.

Can't help but notice there's not many back rowers or centres on that list.
