Luke Brooks - Mega Thread

100% mate, as you've stated rep quality players have come and gone around Brooks yet the constant failure remains. Moving him on wont guarantee immediate success nor will it guarantee it in the next few years however it will allow us to save a mountain of coin and bring someone else through. Madden has shown he's capable, at worst on par with Brooks at a fraction of the price.
 
So why is there hardly any venom spewed at them? Why does only one person in the organisation bare the brunt of all of it?
 

The team wasn't good enough. Tedesco was the only guy there who was a high quality player at that point in time.

I actually agree that something has to change with Brooks. I also think the criticism is a bit unfair and your point is a classic example of this. Farah was a hog who was off with the coach and I think he was offside with Tedesco. Moses was hot and cold and far from the player he is today who isn't great. Brooks was Brooks.

Put it this way. I think a spine like this would work:-

1. Tommy Turbo
6. Luke Brooks
7. Nathan Cleary
9. Harry Grant

If that spine had a decent forward pack and outside backs they are going to make the finals.

I basically agree with your point. For us Brooks isn't worth it. I have no idea how much money he is on and the constant increasing of his salary to me is another irrational criticism of Brooks.

Brooks salary to me is a non issue. Firstly if he goes that money goes to other players and probably in the halves. Secondly we are under the cap. We aren't going to replace Brooks with Tommy Turbo.

I think Brooks has shown though that he struggles to deliver in the NRL under pressure. We need guys who are going to win us games and comps. I also don't see the point of him remaining as our half unless he proves he is the guy that regularly wins us games when we are under pressure. I can't see Brooks ever being that player.
 
Madge should come out and state he is going to run with Brooks at 6 and Madden at 7 for the rest of the year...If Madden shows he can cut it give him a 3 year contract at $450k pa...if Brooks doesnt shine and show his worth, he can go.
 
Pascoe was here 2 years after they both debuted, so to say he hasn’t been here nearly as long is an exaggeration. And as I have said before, if we were a finals team before Brooks debuted, and he suddenly put the brakes on us, then I could somewhat understand why people think he’s the one who has held us back. But the reality is we struggled before he debuted, we’ve struggled with him in first grade, and we will continue to struggle after he’s gone. As for Noffa, he’s far from perfect, but he’s winger ffs. By that same logic, John Skandalis and Mark O’Neill should have been kicked to the curb pre-05 having not played any finals despite each being in first grade for a decade at that point.
 

As I've said... Why didn't finals happen when they were all playing together?
I'm not absolving him of anything, No one is... - That's the only argument for those who just want him gone come hell or highwater.
He's being compared to the top halves in the comp, And he's not... No one argues that.
- BUT WE'RE NOT BUYING THE TOP HALVES IN THE COMP!!
Or the top Fullback - Or the Top Props - Or the Top Centres...
He's better than a pot load of other halves though...

I'm amazed we got one of the Top Hookers and Backrowers... Especially Hookers, As there's not many of them... Back Rowers are a bit easier to fins throughout the comp.

Unless we're got a better option, I'm not moving him.... Yes - MAY have better options at the club. But none of them are proven week to week players - And one is injured.

I would like to see a bit more quality around him, Because he hasn't had that forever... Either side are centre and backrower and his have been not to NRL Standard for the most of his career.... Does that affect him, I think it would affect anyone.

When I look at the quality of Halves in the comp, Brooks sits around the middle....
We're a low level team, with a low level roster.... I don't see how you don't see that!!

Hanging it ALL on Brooks is dumb, If you have the ability to see what you deem the lack of talent in Brooks, Surely you see it in the other blokes out there as well...
And not just last week, For the last 8 Years....

The first two points are true but not necessarily the 3rd point. We need to make a change. Maybe Brooks kills it off the bench or something.

Surely though we can do better than Brooks as our main play maker when we are on the attack.

I do agree that Brooks cops way too much crap but we have to look at being a professional footy team. We've been relying on Brooks as our main play maker and there has always been excuses about his performances. To me that is no long acceptable especially when we have Madden, Hastings and Doueihi on the books.

Can't agree with comparing Nofoaluma to Buckets and Skando....
They never ran backwards intentionally... And weren't more worried about how they're looking than how they're playing.

Nofoaluma is every other Clubs Matt Ikavalu....

I agree. We need better than that though. Play him elsewhere. We have a dud 9 and a dud 1. Brooks is better than both of them at this point. You can also get rid of him. We don't have to play him.

The Brooks bashing to me is stupid but there is a valid point there. We need to win games. Brooksy at 7 isn't working for us.
