This will be Buckets 1st real major test, junior retention.

Next will be how he goes in the player market to recruit externally.

Given we are coming out the other end of salary cap issues it's imperative we purchase smartly and not get over excited we have some money finally.

Buckets was tempered off and on the field - let's hope this occurs with his player recruitment as well.

Agreed re: retention, but for recruitment this year is next year, so to speak. Players out of contract for 2017 are on the open market right now and are being snapped up (e.g. Grievsmuhl) or re-signing with their current clubs (e.g. Cordner). We need to be throwing our hat around in the market here and now, rather than hoping for cast-offs next summer.

I think Buckets needs to work on signing up our spine for the long term future. That should be priority number 1

I agree and I think they will come good but how much do we spend. Moses and Brooks aren't proven performers at this point. Cherrington has always looked good but he hasn't been playing as our first option at dummy half.

Tedesco should be wrapped up first.

One of the guys I play touch footy with is good mates with Madge. Next time I see him, I'll try and get some gossip out of him. I have a hunch the coach swapping merrygoround is just speculation on fans behalf.

Especially number 1, the longer the better

Where can I find a list of when each member of our squad comes off contract? Anybody know?

Zero Tackle have a chart, but it's not always 100% accurate.

**The Lurker: Des' plan to lure Luke Brooks away from Concord**

The bulldogs are thinking of making a shock bid for Wests halfback Luke Brooks for next season, Brooks is on a long term deal with the tigers but I can reveal that bulldogs coach Des Hasler has been looking at the possibility of sneaking under the joint venutues guard and pinching the 21 year old playmaker…

You have been banging on for weeks that Brooks was not happy looking to get out …Can I ask what changed in a week...?

He ain't going no where.

Brooks. Tedesco. Moses.

Those three must be retained at ALL COSTS.

Followed by Woods, Nofa, Simona, Manaia etc.

You gotta dangle the legacy carrot in front of them…

Look at the facts. Andrew Johns, Johnathan Thurston, Cam Smith, Darren Lockyer, Billy Slater, Cooper Cronk, Jarryd Hayne ... one club (JT not technically but he never chased money to leave the Dogs, he chased opportunity ... and I guess if you count the 49ers you can argue Hayne) and they are NRL legends.

Brett Kimmorley... he played a ton of rep games. He's not even in the conversation because he's a vagrant. Benji Marshall's legacy is definitely affected by moving to the Dragons. Being able to be considered a club legend, bleeding a certain colour... it goes a long way to establishing a legacy, and establishing a legacy is how you effectively plan for life after football. When you think of a player, if you don't think of a jersey... the star power is diminished significantly imo.

The old elephant in the room, who wouldn't let the the boys play their natural game last year, had to have a near full on revolt to change his mind, now he is a genius, I think not.

If they can play how they were able to in juniors which was very successful then no reason why they will split up as a group.

Winning & enjoying their trade drives people to be loyal.

The mole,Lurker and Ali are all saying one of them is certain to leave.

as a high income earner. 1 or 2hundred thousand is not going to change your life. Penrith are no chance . There a team bouncing around the bottom. These boys want to,win comps and play with there mates. Teddy took a pay cut and expect the same

Thats probably because they all recycle the same rubbish.

Look at how many players we have off contract in the next 2 years. We already have them pencilled in at 600k each so at worst they might have to find a bit extra and not re-sign someone else.

IMO if they leave it will be because we dont want to match the money, not because we cant.

That's because they can't believe a club like the WTs can produce outstanding halves, fullback and hooker from our junior sides. Also that these players have the potential to catapult the WTs into a long and successful dynasty of football. Further, that these players will attract other good players wanting to play with them.

It can't be all about money. Of course player managers try to get as much as they can for their clients (and therefore themselves) but in the end the decision of where a player wants to play probably rests on other factors unless the player is near the end of their career or are offered way, way above what they might actually be worth in market terms. If I'm Mitch or Luke I'm not worried about whether I can earn $6 million at this club or $8 million at another one over the next 10 years but I do not want to play the next 3 years at a club I think wont have much chance of finals footy. If I have 12 years in the game I want the majority of them to be successful ones, ones that'll give me some great memories down the track. So I guess it'll come down to whether or not they believe the club is heading in the right direction, if they believe the club will be successful in the very near future. In the case of the Tigers Luke and Mitch's decision will probably be a lot easier if they can continue to win.
