Luke Brooks

We've made him and Moses an offer. He is very unlikely to reject it unless a club picks up both, since they're good friends. In that case, we're *****ed. but it should be okay, apparently we've offered them KPI for playing 1st grade.

Also, Brooks should be playing 1st grade this year if potter can change the salary cap! Although, i wouldnt mind seeing him burst onto the scene Adam Reynolds style start of next season. Wanna win rookie of the year

I'm treading carefully with this kid. The last halfback i seen get this much fanfare was Tim Smith, whats he doing these days? seems like the genuine players pop up out of nowhere with zero attention prior to their debut - Reynolds, Cherry-Evans etc. Its the ones with labels on them that normally come to nothing. Can't remember the last kid that ever lived up to a comparison.

Nofoaluma had some solid wraps on him. So did Edrick Lee.

But you're right that a lotta people come outta nowhere. I guess that's because if you're sitting in nsw cup or nyc you're probably not THAT good but if you get the call up straight away you probably are and it's easy to send those packing who aren't and keep those who are. Also, injury can prevent you from making a name in lower grades like with Reynolds i think. Too bad teddy had that injury last year, i think he woulda been very good without it. He's still recovering from it now.

A mate told me today Brooks has signed with the Roosters. Is anyone able to confirm or deny??

if he was going to sign with them firstly he would have to be on serious coin to get him and secondly if he was on serious coin how would they be able to fit him under the salary cap

I'm pretty sure the roosters re-signed M Pearce earlier this year. So not to sure Brooks would move to a club that has the current NSW halves in front of him. Well I hope he wouldn't

Grant Mayer said in the article "Inside Wests Tigers Part 1 - Recruitment, retention and salary cap that Luke Brooks is a long-term solution going forward and that Luke Brooks, and Moses for that matter, are already both signed for next season!

Also, to my understanding from a close source, when the Tigers sign an U20's player they sign them up until their last eligible year for the 20's with an exclusive first and last option clause for the following year.
So in Brooks' case, as an assuming example, his contract would be for the 2013 - 2014 seasons with an option for 2015.

So if the Roosters did make Brooks a considerable offer, I highly doubt the Tigers would release him anyway knowing he is part of their future plans along with all the room the club have been making in the salary cap in recent weeks for the likes of Brooks, Moses, Lovett and Santi!!

I'd be surprised if they have signed Brooks as well after signing Jackson Hastings who they rate as highly as their future HB as we do Brooks. Unless we offer the kid pretty decent coin for his age/potential, I envisage his manager wanting to test his value on the open market & we might have to wait until next year to know if he will be re-signing with us. I would prefer to see us play him in reggies for the rest of the year to continue his development & have another pre-season training before blooding him in FG next year. DCE played a whole season in reggies in the QLD Cup after his last year in 20's before making his debut in FG & Reynolds done his ACL in pre-season training in his first year out of 20's & missed the whole season. After losing Lui through no fault of our own it would be another a kick in the guts personally if we were to lose Brooks.

There is no way roosters have signed him he is still contracted with us next year and tigers have come out and said they are in discussions with him and Moses and want to sign them long term and IF he did sign with them he would be waiting longer for a first grade spot than if he stayed at the tigers cause I don't see roosters getting rid of Pearce

Brooks will stay I feel. There is an obvious spot open at a team im sure he loves, with all his mates especially Moses and it is clear he will be playing 1st grade in no time. I'm sure management have told him they're sorry that the injuries and 2nd tier cap have hamstrung them into not letting them play Brooks and he understands.

Your mates having a good gee up here!

Potter will know what to do with the kid, when he's ready, he's ready why rush him? Don't want another Smith. But we don't want to do a miller and play him for small minutes or play him and not utilize him fully by benji and Farah hogging the plays. That can't be great for confidence

Well, that's good to hear, Just thought I would ask, not up to speed on the world of the Tigers as much as some on the forum.

Gee this kid is going to have some pressure on him, i hope we give him a chance & more then half a dozen games to prove himself when he finally comes into the team.

I will throw question out there ?

Is Luke Brooks at better player than Benji was at same age

Definitely. All young Benji had was a step and some pace.

Brooks can pass and kick either short or long, can run and step and is decent in defence given his age and size.

Way ahead of Benji. But back then all Benji was meant to do was add some X factor to an otherwise predictable team.

Disagree with this. Marshall was a freakish talent. Brooks is a very good young player and has more all-round skills than Marshall at the same age, but Marshall was always going to be the champion he became. Jury is still out on Brooks.

Very very different players.

At the same age Benji was better then Johns.

Benji was a freak, you must admit he has the runs on the board & i hope Brooks ends up as good. I would never bag Benji as he has been great for the Wests Tigers but as for Tauber he is a Grub.

Yes completely different players. All Benji had was a running game and a step, the passing and kicking game mostly took years for him to get right.

Brooks has a complete game. He can pass and kick better than Benji can now, even though he's 10 years younger (yes I know he hasn't played NRL yet but he was still kicking 40/20s in trials at the beginning of the year etc). He just doesn't have the fancy and electrifying speed and step that Benji had. Yet Brooks can still break the line.

Benji was a far more exciting player at that age, while Brooks is a more developed and complete player.
