Persisting with Brooks is going to cost McGuire his job.

If that’s the hill he wants to die on then that’s on him.

Yeah you are right, he should replace him with......................................?

Us not having a better replacement for Brooks is not a reason to persist with him as our long term number seven.

For what it’s worth I’d play Mbye there for now with a view to trying Madden before the end of the season and if Madden doesn’t look the part we need to hit the market hard for a half back.

I actually feel sorry for Brooks, he looked genuinely upset after the game and I think keeping him in the team is now a player welfare issue.

He’s not capable of doing what he is being asked to do which isn’t his fault. It’s the fault of the coach who continually puts him in this position.

This is the 3rd year Madge has had Brooks and he hasnt changed from the previous 5 years...so now Madge is the wonder worker....as a wise man who coached me once said " you cant put brains into monuments"...

Brooks wasn't our worst today, but he sure doesn't do himself any favors when we get inside the opposition 20 - there's not much in the way of directing runners and setting up the next play.

He wasn't our worst, but he he was nowhere near our best, he has run out of excuses

James Roberts / Nofa were responsible for letting in 4 tries in the first half

Im not talking long term, Im talking next week, and the week after. Surely you pick the best player in each position and the one most likely to help get the result?

I agree with everyone here about Brooks atm, but there is no one better in the club atm and I can not sign up for selecting an inferior player in a position to teach someone a lesson, we should be trying to win each game.

That’s why I think Mbye should be there, I genuinely don’t think he would do any worse than Brooks at this stage and I believe we are damaging Brooks mental health by leaving him in there but we need to find a way to get Madden a run in first grade to see if he has what it takes.

Surely if Madden "has what it takes" he will be tearing up in Reggies?

Two good kicks today, improvement from last week. Unfortunately his passing and running games was pretty average. Doueihi was the man who was dangerous with the footy in hand. Plenty of average kicks from brooksy too.

Doueihi was our best prop;

He was our best everything. He's a real talent and easily one of our best performers this year. His bombs once again worked well, one or two good short kicks but one or two average ones, really nice passing to set up Garner and Nofa and was strong running the footy.

Played 6 for 4 games and he's easily the best half at the club. He'd be so much better with a proper halfback next to him too.

He is a keeper isn't he. He is learning as well. There is heaps of improvement in him.

This is the issue. They haven't been bad defensively this year either. We just aren't performing.

The blame should be at the coach. He has to do something to fix things.

Luke Brooks vs North Queensland (Round 5)
7 runs (34m)
15 tackles (0 missed)
4 tackle busts
2 off loads
1 line break assist
2 try assists
1 error (the drop off the kick-off)

Still hasn’t got a clue what to do ..
When to kick..
When to run ..
He’s supposed to be our general..
150 games ...yawn

And that is the problem, after 8 seasons and 150 plus games, he is not going to get better, it is mind numbingly stupid to persist with him, we need to buy a halfback ASAP

Yep , that leaking 28 points in the first half against a wooden spoon team isn’t the problem lol

Didn’t see today’s Magpies game but I did see last weeks and he showed plenty of upside. Scored two weeks running as well now.

He may not be the answer and if so we need to go to market.

There is much bigger problems than one player mate. He is just the scape goat

I knew this thread would fire after today's game, especially after walking out onto Mary St and the first comment I hear from a supporter is "Brooks has to go".

Funny we scored 30 points, Brooks made 1 error at the death and missed no tackles. What else is the half supposed to do in a game like today?

Yeah he got outplayed by Drinkwater, because Tigers refused to tackle or have any linespeed - Chad Townsend would have looked great today with the way Tigers defended.

Does anyone reckon Adam Clune won the match for the Dragons today? No, he did his job and he's an average athlete, but his team defended like beasts and kept the intensity going all match. Let's sign Adam Clune then, see what he can do with no go-forward and no linespeed in defence.

I think Brooks was very conservative in the early sets, but we got the try we needed, and he wouldn't have expected to have to chase down 22 points by half-time, to have to increase the tempo so badly.

The half isn't the problem right now, he's top of league in try assists, equal-3rd in line-break assists and we have scored 22 or better 3 weeks in a row.

How are people actually blaming brooks for today? We scored 30 points, clearly our halves aren’t the issue. We shouldn’t even be complaining about our attack, we let in 34 points. Brooks didn’t miss a tackle?

I cannot believe the blokes on this page blaming him any chance they get even when the stats show otherwise.

Summed it up perfectly. It’s sad isn’t it mate

The 2nd half is how I expected we would play but the entire game not just 40 mins. Whatever effort the TEAM displayed in the 1st half (particularly Roberts and Nofa) was not on Brooks

Brooks made two very early tackles on Cowboy forwards when Luciano fell off both. That to me was a foreboding of play to come.

He's a Clune style half. His performances will not go unnoticed by other NRL clubs.

Brooks wasn’t the problem.

Our line speed in defence, both left and right edges and dare I say it bad positional play by Laurie at full back cost us the game.

Brooks and AD did everything they could to keep us in that game.

If we don’t fix our linespeed for 80mins we are no chance, our defence is crap .

Like I said in a different thread.
Brooks was NOT the our problem today, our attack is ugly but we still manage to score points
Our defence is that bad ,until we fix it we can blame Brooks all we want, but he can actually tackle.Along with Garner,Offa,Stefano.
The lads need some serious tackle practice, even when we have a team on their own line they will make 50 meters and put us right back on ours.
I can’t stand it 😂 that ‘average squad’ we had under Ivan in 2018 was the last time we actually defended as a unit.

Laurie was everywhere. He saved quite a few tries?
