I knew this thread would fire after today's game, especially after walking out onto Mary St and the first comment I hear from a supporter is "Brooks has to go".

Funny we scored 30 points, Brooks made 1 error at the death and missed no tackles. What else is the half supposed to do in a game like today?

Yeah he got outplayed by Drinkwater, because Tigers refused to tackle or have any linespeed - Chad Townsend would have looked great today with the way Tigers defended.

Does anyone reckon Adam Clune won the match for the Dragons today? No, he did his job and he's an average athlete, but his team defended like beasts and kept the intensity going all match. Let's sign Adam Clune then, see what he can do with no go-forward and no linespeed in defence.

I think Brooks was very conservative in the early sets, but we got the try we needed, and he wouldn't have expected to have to chase down 22 points by half-time, to have to increase the tempo so badly.

The half isn't the problem right now, he's top of league in try assists, equal-3rd in line-break assists and we have scored 22 or better 3 weeks in a row.

Good post. But i would like Brooks to go to a better club, this club does not deserve him. The backline except for Laurie , all have to go, and Simkin would give some variety in attack. I don't know what the coaching staff are doing,
but it's not much, they look like a side with no game plan.
Agression and speed is lacking everywhere.

Absolving Brooks from any accountability for yesterdays result kind of sums up for me where we are as a club.

The game was lost in the first half when the attack was every bit as diabolical as the defence and Brooks was front and centre of that failure.

The whole team rallied in the second half including Brooks making his game stats look decent but as usual when we really needed a spark in attack he was unable to come up with anything, he looks like a deer in the headlights when he receives the ball on the last tackle.

The most depressing aspect of that loss is that we are stuck with this guy. Just can't see how we move him on.

Make a deal with the Cowboys.

I thought the most depressing thing about yesterday was our defense personally...

Yes it was.

But after the game the reality of his contract and recent contract extension sunk in.

They proved yesterday they don’t need him ..

But he is not doing his job. Ineffective kicks, poor plays and folding under pressure are not part of the job description.

Like I said in a different thread.
Brooks was NOT the our problem today, our attack is ugly but we still manage to score points
Our defence is that bad ,until we fix it we can blame Brooks all we want, but he can actually tackle.Along with Garner,Offa,Stefano.
The lads need some serious tackle practice, even when we have a team on their own line they will make 50 meters and put us right back on ours.
I can’t stand it 😂 that ‘average squad’ we had under Ivan in 2018 was the last time we actually defended as a unit.

I'm not a fan of giving the coach a hard time but our defense is terrible. That isn't the halfbacks job. It's a coaching issue.

Was thinking similar with Nofo.

He wasn't great yesterday but he wasn't that poor. Last week he was good. I agree that yesterday he didn't do enough on a couple of plays.

I don't see any folding under pressure at all. Brooks made his tackles and we lost that game on defense.

He did his job yesterday.

I accept he isn't a great player and I'd happily replace him with someone better but personally I don't see many if any great halves in the comp.

The top players are now fullbacks. Would any half be in the top 10 players in the comp ?

Scored a try from the first 5-6 attacking sets (including a few repeats). Barely touched the ball for 20 minutes as Cowboys racked up a cricket score. Got the ball back and had to chase points.

Brooks had an average outing, 6.5/10, but if there was a Top 10 of things to fix at Tigers based solely on the Cowboys game, Brooks' performance comes in around #9.

Where was Doueihi's attack first half, if that's the measurement of what was going on.

Honestly your comments, I don't understand. "When we needed a spark he was unable to come up with anything". Oh you mean when we were down by 22 points Brooks wasn't involved in the comeback? Or down by 14 with 5 to go, he wasn't part of those two late tries either?

Without both the halves yesterday we lose 34-6 or 40-6, let alone rally to score 5 tries.

Case in point: Tigers made less tackles, less missed tackles, less errors, less penalties, more offloads, more line breaks, more tackle breaks, more runs, more metres, more post-contact metres than Cowboys. The game wasn't lost on overall team output, it was lost on those individual efforts across the park, particularly the outside backs: the key missed tackle, bad kick defence, crucial dropped ball, idle moments when we should have been moving our feet.

Brooks covered Lucianos arse plenty of times in defense . It should be the complete opposite

What do you mean folding under pressure exactly ? Like when the cowboys winger ran rings around Nofa to score full field? Or when the cows put up the kick and Nofa didn’t even contest the ball?

And my memory fades me but ... didn’t we score 2 tries directly related from a Brooks kick? (The grubber and the knock back for Laurie)

Persisting with Brooks is going to cost McGuire his job.

If that’s the hill he wants to die on then that’s on him.

Yeah you are right, he should replace him with......................................?

Doohey

And you replace Doueihi with?

Laurie

No! Leave Laurie at fullback. He's good under the high ball, he's quick and elusive. Halfback is the problem, fix it. Don't mess with three positions to fix one.

I totally agree this will be the case. But he will probably play in the 6 at any other club.

Don't have a problem with his defence, it was an issue early on in his career but he worked on it and fixed it.

Most of his kicks are dribble, lack height, meaning the chases are unable to get there.

When he dropped the ball from the kick-off with 50 seconds to go with everything on the line, he failed, folded under the pressure.

It certainly wasn't Brooks' fault Wests Tigers lost that game but it is absolutely on him that Wests Tigers didn't win either.

Mate we deserved to lose that game from the opening total lack lustre first half. I knew that dropped ball at the end would give his nay sayers ammo though. Should have never been in that position anyways

You are right we should not have been in that position but we were and what happened, failure.
