Wests Tigers coach Michael ‘Madge’ Maguire has confirmed halfback Luke Brooks will stay at the Tigers next year, despite the rumours.

Mark Levy confronted the coach with reports the club has been ‘shopping Brooks around’ to other teams.

“Is that true Madge?”

“No, it’s not,” Maguire denied.

“That’s been a regular conversation that’s been going for the last two or three years … just keeps doing the rounds.”

But Luke Brooks in 2021 has been as good as we could have hoped for. Very few halfbacks in the league could have provided much more than he has this year, considering the context of the team he's in.

I feel like it’s been repeated a billion times, but until we get someone better that would be terrible business. Nobody even knows if Hastings will cut it in the NRL, he sure as hell didn’t in the 48 games he played for 2 fairly strong clubs

Every excuse in the book has been used to gloss over the fact that he just doesn’t have it.
I’d gladly take a chat on Hastings than live through more years of mediocrity.

Does anyone believe this guy would have got the same accolades if playing for a lower team in his era - the Eels Juggernaut was unsurpassed in his day .. when you look at him he was as slow as a wet week, I don’t see his attributes cutting the mustard in today’s standards. That particular poll was done at round 4 or something where the whole team sucked hard.. 70% of all supporters would have wanted every Wests Tigers player gone..bar Lucy and Doueihi at the time..In the meantime a lot had dropped Lucy.

Yes, it makes as much sense as when a player simply passes a ball and hasn't beaten anyone , it's classed as a try assist.

CK, he's not leaving. I read it from Maguire this morning. Based on form, he is the first picked. His combination with Doueihi is growing and I believe many teams would welcome both players with open arms as their halves pairing.
