The answer is not enough.
Brooks can play, no one is saying he can’t. What he is hopeless at though is converting opportunities into points.
His decision making under pressure, especially in the opposition 20 is sub par at best.

I agree some of his decisions are not great under pressure, thats why the good teams have a strong 5/8 and hooker to assist

Do you think Brooks would improve/excel with a 5/8 like Lui or Munster or Walker as well as hookers like Api, Cook or Smith/Grant

We do not have that level of player in the team to assist Brooks in driving the team - we have Liddle (who most people want to get rid of) and Mbye ( who is gone) and Douhi (who is not a 5/8) but a centre and future lock

All those stats yet Adam Reynolds is a supremely better halfback than Brooks

He's got something that won't be on the stat sheet - footy IQ and game management. He leads that team around, kicks to corners, organises their attack and when they're in the red zone let his attacking players finish it off

Remember when Reynolds kicked a 2 point field goal against us to keep them in the game whoch eventually led to their victory? Brooks will NEVER be able to do that. Brooks is one of the worst halves in the comp and comparing him to Reynolds is insulting to Reynolds.

He's the reason why guys like Walker and Mitchell are given the space and opportunity to flourish on the outside. He's a big reason why Souths have had sustained success from the moment he entered the league.

Brooks racks up stats by sheer volume, offers none of these game managing qualities and is the leading reason why we haven't made the finals since he's been a full-time first grader.

We conceded more points this year than we ever have. If our defence conceded as few points as Penrith or South’s we would have played finals. You can blame the halfback all you want but Andrew Johns could have played halfback for us and we wouldn’t have made finals.

I’m not saying Brooks is flawless but unless we address the real issue first there is not point spending big on a halfback because when you spend so much time behind your own posts it doesn’t matter who is playing halfback.

He did however put huge strain on our poor defensive lines by not controlling in any way where the ball would be turned over. There was no rhyme, reason or strategy behind his kicking. Kick and hope is the best way to describe it.
We had to win 3 more games to make the finals. Not only would Joey have got us there, but 7 of the top 8 halves this year would have…it was that weak of a comp.
