When Madge came in I was hoping he could get Brooksy to the next level and become a premier half in the comp like Adam Reynolds. My faith has ebbed and flowed along with the seasons as a Wests supporter, but with some new weapons to play with, I'm back in an optimistic place that Brooksy can regain his form and hopefully realise the potential that we've all held for him at one time or another.

Reynolds ain’t that good, he’s just lucky he’s generally had 7/8 Origin players around him his whole career. Put Reynolds at 7 in our side since 2012 and we still wouldn’t have made the finals once.

Seriously, there is not a half in the world that would have looked good in the Tigers side last year.We had forwards who had little forward momentum and soft in defence.JA was our best and he was ok but not anything special.Our backline was lacking penetration and was slow.We had no fullback,no goalkicker,and a bunch of guys who would be lucky to survive in the CC comp,who we kept moving around on the hope they might make some impact.

I disagree so if the forwards were that bad last season .. why was Grant such a sensation ? You either have the the goods or not that is as simple as it gets . Yes a stronger pack makes a 7’s job easier but a 7 that has the goods will always stand out ! This rubbish about the forward pack is just falsely



Grant played with the same so called dud forwards that Brooks played with. Grant looked like a champ .. Brooks well you either have it or you don’t!
The champs stand out whether there playing with champs or chumps that’s always been the way .

But Grant wasn't playing half.

Well he did ...but he was playing in the 1st receiver role

We played our best footy then too. The more he has the ball the better we went


All he needs is a good 5/8 because he’s never had one. Might get that this year.

1st he needed a bigger stronger forward pack
He has that now
2nd he needed a stronger centre / winger combination who could stop leaking points and score more points
Jury is out on that
3rd he needs a decent Hooker/Dummy half who can get him the ball quick
That should be ok this year ?
4th he needs a decent fullback who can chime in and give more options or create panick in the oppositions defence which may give Brooks more time to create some magic of his own
5th he needs some speed men around him
Hopefully Jet helps with that
Now he needs a decent 5/8

At some stage Brooks needs to stand up and take the game by the scruff of the neck and lead our team by Example
Take the ball to the line and take the defence on more often
And get his kicking game in order
We all know he can do it because he has done it before
He just needs to do it consistently
LAST CHANCE
He has the big forwards he needs, the speed he has needed and other options to go to
He doesn't need to do it all himself
He just needs to pick the right play at the right moment
I hope he finally has a stand out year
He is becoming one of the most experienced halfbacks in the NRL
Now he needs to show it

I’m a Brooks fan and I say great post. Can’t argue against anything there. He needs a very good year. I’m confident he’ll deliver

I agree with this though I will add that i am very fast loosing patience.

Whilst the team is not top 6 yet IMHO This is the final year of my support to see a significant increase in consistency.

He has the talent and the speed, now i 2021 he is the senior halves partner and needs to step up.

Just a comment on the irony of a halfback with 7 (?) seasons under his belt requiring mentoring by Matthew Johns. Still, if it helps why not. 2021 will be his last opportunity to 'get it' surely.

The Johns boys wouldn’t have come near our halves with the plodder packs they’ve been playing behind for years. If you want to soar like an eagle you can’t be flocking with Turkeys.

It's the most difficult position on the field,you need the forwards making ground,your DH giving good service,and your backs having speed and the ability to put pressure on the defence,otherwise you are the target.With a lot of these areas strengthened ,i think Brooks will excell.

I played plenty of DH / halves back in the day, easy job made hard if you don't have the forwards. I felt DH was harder but mainly because of the physical aspect

Brooks is 26.Thurston who i think is one of, if not the best,was ordinary at the dogs at the same age.Cronk playing in one of the best sides,the same,and he had Smith doing a lot of half back work and directing the side(some say game management) I think because he has been around for a long time we expected too much.With a decent side for the first time in years i think he is ready to roll.
