Statement sounds akin to having the “full support of the board”…and we know how that normally ends

The statement would sound like whatever you wanted it to sound like.

I doubt Sheens first public statement is one that makes him look like he doesn’t what’s going on within the club.

Interesting that is the 1st thing we hear from him.

Making his intent clear if nothing else. It's going to be interesting to see how much influence he still has.

I am curious to see if Sheens can have a positive impact on Brooks' game.

In all honesty, I would be happy for Brooks to go, as much for him as for the club but I just don't think we are in a position for that to happen this off season. I was borderline on Mbye leaving with how skinny it leaves us in the halves.

Club issued a statement from Sheens

Wests Tigers statement on Luke Brooks

Wests Tigers Director of Football Tim Sheens has issued the following statement regarding halfback Luke Brooks.

“Luke Brooks is contracted with Wests Tigers until at least the end of 2023 and, contrary to media speculation, will not be leaving the club.

“Luke is a proud local junior and an extremely talented halfback, who has shown an unquestionable level of commitment to Wests Tigers over a number of years. It is clear that he remains an integral part of the long-term plans of Wests Tigers and, in speaking with him, he too is equally focused and passionate on delivering sustained success for the club.

“Wests Tigers have been definitive on this matter and will continue to reiterate this against any untrue speculation. It is unfair on Luke, his teammates and family, as well as those involved with the club, to raise false conjecture on his future lying away from Wests Tigers when both he and the club are united on delivering success together.

“I have known Luke for a long time and am continually impressed by the way that he carries himself both on and off the field. I look forward to working with him again to give the proud Members of this club the performances and results they deserve.”

Outstanding. Not because one agrees or disagrees with the sentiment, but because the statement has been made with firm conviction. Finally a statement from somebody at the club who doesn't sound like they are way out of their depth. Maybe we have finally filled that leadership hole.

I like the statement coming from Sheens. I think he realises the more speculation that goes on in the media the more it tarnishes our brand. Nice work getting on the front foot.

I am not suggesting Brooks has played sufficiently well every game this season, but i still think there is a huge gap between him and Madden in pretty much every facet of the game. Considering they are our current first choice half backs I am happy to support Brooks until a better option presents. In saying this I wouldn’t bag the guy for wanting out - the way he has been treated and rubbished in the media, and by some supposed fans and apparently even club officials, is appalling in my view.

Sheens has been given autonomy over the Football department.. I think that is evident..

Not sure why. We’re bottom 4 with or without him, better to take that money and sign a player actually worth what he’s on.

We cld find a solution that wld perform equally well for a fraction of the price

A solution that combined with what we are paying him to leave would come in less than what he costs us to keep him?

He says that HE is not happy..so why shld we pay a significant premium for him to leave?

Where di he say that?

It's been said on his behalf in the media. Nothing stopping him jumping on social media to say it's rubbish. His silence is endorsement. You might expect undermining a coach by BJ Leilua, but it cannot be tolerated by our halfback.

What I have heard is there are members of Luke's family that would like him to move on but Luke himself wants to stay.

If he wants to stay he needs to publicly back the coach. I've never been in the 'hate Brooks' club, but man am I sick of players undermining the coach/club.

What’s backing the coach publicly going to accomplish. There was a time Farah backed JT, which was clearly rubbish. Anything that is said publicly carries little weight.

We just went through very public turmoil over who our coach will be, and we decided to stick with Madge. It is just not good enough to then have it in print that Brooks doesn't want to play under Madge, and for Brooks not to deny that. Even if it's just for appearance!

I don’t think he’s under any more obligation to publicly back Maguire than any other player.

Of course there is - he is the subject of the story. If it was reported about anybody else I would expect it of them too.

Brooks is reportedly off social media due to trolls. Glad he’s staying put now get him some help.

Typical a player we want to moves cant be moved and when we want a high grade player no one wants to leave their boots on the centre of excellence doormat

Brooksy loves this place , i just think he needs more around him

Yes Like a Wally Lewis or Johnathan Thurston. Unfortunately we have neither and he will continue to stink it up.

I think Brooks needs to move on, I personally have had enough of his mediocracy over two many years, enough is enough to many chances to show a consistant performance, he is not intelligent enough to direct our team TIME has shown us , But we wll put up with it for another year

Sheens starting to sound like a PR department rather than a coach..now recall why he got canned
If someone offered full freight tomorrow for Brooks youd take it in a heartbeat and work out the rest later!

The club obviously does not want to move Brooks on,despite some of our supporter base

Depends on who "we" is. Evidently "we" doesnt include Sheens or whoever else is calling the shots at the club. And "cant be moved" also looks to more accurately mean decided not to move.

I for one am glad he is staying. We don't have a better option than him in the halves. Though if he were truly not committed to the coach then i do believe it would be best for both he and the club that he went elsewhere.

No way is Madden ahead of Hastings in the halfback stakes.
