I think we are favs to get him

Sounds good, is that the word around the club?

The rumour regarding Cronulla, how reliable is that? That could of changed his mind if it's true.

Wow this place had better make up it's mind. First he looks like he's gonna sign with us, then Cronulla look certainties, now we're apparently in the box seat again. I'm confused

I would not say a 'gut feeling' puts us in the box seat. Lewis will do what's right for him, both financially and career wise, so where ever that maybe so be it. Would be nice to have him here without a doubt.

Sounds like the next day or 2 all will be revealed.

PARRAMATTA Eels skipper Nathan believes Luke Lewis would be a great player to replace for him at the end of the season.

Luke Lewis is being chased by a number of NRL clubs, including the Knights

Hindmarsh is retiring at the end of the year, leaving the Eels low on senior leaders with big game experience.

Having been granted a release from the final two years of his contract with the Panthers, Lewis is on the hunt for a new home with the Eels, Wests Tigers, Newcastle Knights and Cronulla Sharks all in the hunt for his prized signature.

“You need to have a good balance and if Lewy came it would give another experienced head to lead the young blokes around - a bit of leadership,” Hindmarsh told Sportsnewsfirst.com.au.

“Lewy is a bit lighter on his feet then I am - a bit more energy.

“He’s a quality player who can create a lot of things.

“I see him as a player that is very handy.

“I think he would be a good buy for any club.”

Hindmarsh believes the Test star could offer the Eels a lot not only in terms of his on field ability but by working with the younger players.

“We’ve got Joseph Paulo he’s doing a great job and has a similar style (to Lewis),” Hindmarsh said.

“I think if we got Lewy they would complement each other really well.”

While the Eels have the salary cap space for Lewis following Hindmarsh’s retirement along with veteran winger Luke Burt, Wests Tigers captain Robbie Farah and coach Tim Sheens are hopeful their strong personal relationships with Lewis will convince him to join the joint venture for next season.

Lewis and Farah forged a strong bond during NSW's unsuccessful State of Origin campaign while Kangaroos coach Tim Sheens has coached Lewis at international level.

The Sharks also have ties to Lewis with skipper Paul Gallen forming a friendship with him over their time in New South Wales and Australian camp.

Lewis is also close friends with former Penrith youngster Wade Graham who has been in regular contact with Lewis.

While Flanagan said on Sunday he has heard nothing since last fortnight regarding negotiations for the back rower, Graham has spoken to him on a number of occasions.

“We’re mates; I think it’s pretty well documented what clubs are after him,” Graham said.

“I’d love him to come here but at the end of the day it’s his decision so we’ll probably find out that in a couple of weeks.”

Gallen also confirmed he has been in contact with Lewis, who has recently spent some time in the shire but denies he has been trying to coax him into joining the club.

“I’d love to see him here but it’s up to him,” Gallen said.

“I speak to him all the time but we don’t talk about football, we are real good friends and I just want him to make the decision that’s going to be best for his footy.”

The Canberra Raiders have resigned themselves to losing the race for Luke Lewis' signature as Cronulla continues to firm as the favourite to snare the disgruntled Panther.

Canberra has spoken with Lewis, and submitted an official offer to his manager Greg Willett on the weekend, but club insiders privately believe he has already agreed to join the Sharks.

Willett indicated on Sunday he is keen to have a new deal for Lewis finalised by tomorrow, with Wests Tigers, Parramatta and Newcastle the other major contenders.

Lewis, who last week shocked the league world by asking the Panthers for a release, is keen to join a club capable of winning a premiership next year.

The 28-year-old was wined and dined at the Sutherland home of Australian Test cricketer Shane Watson last week.

He also forged strong friendships with Sharks stars Paul Gallen and Todd Carney during this year's Origin series.

The Knights are reportedly trying to convince Cronulla to release second-rower Jeremy Smith from the final year of his contract.

Should the New Zealand international move to Newcastle, it would free up space for Cronulla to accommodate Lewis with a lucrative three-year deal.

Meanwhile, irate Raiders coach David Furner has blasted his side's mental strength, accusing them of failing to handle expectation after Sunday's shock home loss to Gold Coast.

''There were three or four guys who didn't turn up prepared, and I'm not sure why,'' Furner said.

''We seem like a side at the moment, we've shown this year and especially on the weekend, [that isn't] handling expectation.

''There just seems to be a pattern there when we are favourites, we don't handle that tag very well.

''We should have won that game and what it meant for the team and for everyone … it was not good enough.''

Furner was particularly unhappy with some of the performances of his leaders against Gold Coast, even launching an aggressive spray at captain David Shillington at half-time.

He hinted his team may have been guilty of believing its own positive press and let complacency set in - a claim prop Tom Learoyd-Lahrs denied.

''I don't know if it's complacency, but we've certainly got to be better at responding to setbacks throughout games,'' Learoyd-Lahrs said.

''The good teams fight and turn the momentum around.

''Once things go against you, that's when you have to roll up your sleeves and get in the grind.''

Furner is hopeful Josh Dugan will return from an ankle injury to help bolster his injury-ravaged squad against the Sharks.

If Dugan is passed fit, all eyes will be on whether he replaces the in-form Reece Robinson at his preferred fullback spot, or he's forced to play out of position.

Forward Josh Papalii had scans on his right knee yesterday after failing to complete Sunday's game, with the results to be known this morning.

The club remains hopeful the 20-year-old has suffered just a cork or bone bruising, and will be available to play the Sharks.

To the peanuts who think it is funny to post ridiculous rumours for the sake of it, please stop. There have been more than enough idiotic posts in this thread deleted and it's getting to the point where someone will end up on mod review.

first time posting but being on the forum for a while… Saw something very interseting tonight, Luke Lewis, Farrah, Lawrence, and Lewis's wife having dinner in a inner west restaurant. Seems coincidental, thought you guys would appreciate the info. My opinion he will be in Tigers colours next year.

Well isnt that coincidental, pardon me if I am a little sceptical about a first time poster placing this type of comment. I'd be stoked if true, but would think it would be a little far fetched.
