Lewis did agree to play for souths a few years back but renigged on the deal.He may be a bit of a lost soul.

Mate, Dwyer is not coming back. If you seen him during the City-Country, he has no muscle mass whatsoever and looks about 10 or 15 kg's lighter. Its really sad, but its the truth
 
I've been a massive Luke Lewis fan for years and can honestly not think of a more brilliant player to replace Ellis with.

He's the sort of player you can describe in one word "heart". Seriously, the bloke has given his all for a team that's struggled for years. And a great bloke on and off the field.

Not to mention his skills. He's one of the best line runners in the game, with a footy brain, great defense and can set up tries and an awesome utility if we have injury troubles. He's also got a cool head and "knows" when and how to fire up a team. Just look at his performances in Origin.

I can just imagine the attack we could have in Benji, Farah, Lawrence, Siro, Anasta, Tedesco/Moltzen who all know how to get the points.

A lot of people are saying we don't need anymore back rowers - not really, but, we have plenty of young front rowers who would love to step up. Or a signing like Poore would also be a good signing.

Chances are he'll end up at the Sharks or Dragons, but I think we'd be mad not to have a big crack at him.

I think he'd be perfect for us.

I think we are doing pretty well with regards to props - I mean how many teams have a pair of props like Woods and Galloway. Add to that BMM looks fine at prop and Bell, Groat and probably more options in the lower grades and I think we are pretty sweet.

With backrowers we may have a lot of them but not a lot of class. Lewis solves that pretty much straight away. My only problem is that he isn't a big tackle busting second rower like Ellis.
 
According to nrl.com one of the reasons he left panthers is because he wants a premierships so this rules out the Dragons and Eels which leaves the battle between Tigers, Bulldogs and Sharks. The Buldogs do not have space in their cap anymore since they are going to announce 5 resignings and already announced T Rex then this finalises down to the Sharks and Tigers so who will win the battle? we will see.
 
Cronulla coach Shane Flanagan has been in regular contact with Luke Lewis' manager, but he denies having ever discussed bringing the NSW Origin back-rower to the Sharks in 2013.

Lewis on Monday announced he would be leaving Penrith at the end of the NRL season to pursue a fresh challenge, with the Sharks quickly anointed as favourites to secure his prized signature.

But while Flanagan talks regularly with Lewis' manager Greg Willett - who also doubles as the Sharks coach's accountant - he said the want-away Panther had never been a topic of conversation.

Until now.

"I heard that all this afternoon and of course we'd be interested," Flanagan said of Lewis.

"I have made no contact.

"I see his manager regularly, his offices are just up the road here where we go quite often - he does some accounting and tax and things for me but we've definitely not spoken to Luke Lewis."

Lewis was spotted with former Penrith teammate and now Sharks backrower Wade Graham in the Cronulla area on the weekend, but Graham denied there was sinister to their get-together.

"He had the weekend off and we just caught up for a coffee as mates do," Graham said

"Me and Lewie grew up together so we're mates before football and he's got to do what's best for his family football wise.

"If that ends up here it's here but if it ends up somewhere else as a mate I'll wish him all the best.

"I think 15 NRL sides would love to have him in their team."

I'd love him here - great player.

I would use him at 5/8 though. Put him on one side of the ruck and Benji on the other. I think he wouldn't be initmidated as was/is the case with Lui, Moltzen, Sirro when demanding the ball

While he plays back row, does anyone recall how good a halfback he was when Penrith lost their half a couple of seasons ago? He was very, very effective.

I remember that, it was around 08 when he signed with Souths
 
C7 reporting that the tigers and eels are the first clubs to "officially" express their interest in Lewis. At least we're officially in the fight then, just hope we've got enough for a competitive offer. Personally I think anyone who thinks we don'f need him is bonkers.

If the Sharks do sign him they are going to have probably the greatest backrow in NRL history with highly talented back up as well
