Did anyone see Bennett's presser regarding blame shouldn't always go on players but that it is hard for players to play in a toxic environment.

Have to agree with him. Obviously, players aren't blameless but I'm sure we have all worked in places with toxicity. Unfortunately though, most of us don't work under as high a pressure and don't need to put in 150% physically to get the job done.

Players are half arsing. We can all see it. They're looking at the end date of their contracts like they look at the half time whistle at the 20 minute mark. They can't wait to get out of here.

Except for Daine Laurie, the little fullback is the only runner that bends the defensive line and is our biggest hitter in defence. What’s that about?

Maguire shares his disappointment following Leichhardt loss

Sun 4 Jul 2021, 08:17 PM

Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire has shared his frustrations following his side’s loss to South Sydney on Sunday afternoon.

The home side trailed by 26 points at half-time before rallying in the second half to reduce the deficit to 16 points.

"I need to find men who are accountable for what we are doing. It's not acceptable for where we are going as a club," Maguire said.

"Our start looked like a training run for Souths. It was very disappointing to see us start like that.”

Although Maguire was disappointed with the result, he’s confident the club is still heading in the right direction.

“I think the club is in really good shape to be able to take us to where want to get to," Maguire said.

"I talk to everyone around the organisation and we have been through a fair bit together.

"I have a really good group of young men who are really hungry to take the Wests Tigers forward.

"We have to do a lot of recruiting in that space in the last 12 months.

"Those young guys the more games they play and the more often they're out on the field, they are going to improve."

Not without a decent coach and someone to explain what they are doing wrong, and what needs to be done they won't

A player shouldn't need to have it explained to them to actually make an effort to tackle an opposition player rather than stand there bludging.

I will just drop this.
James Roberts in a recent interview says "he loves the Tigers and he loves the club".

It's a phrase I am hearing again and again when players mention the Tigers.
Whatever Madge is doing, he is doing this one thing right. The players he is keeping onside.
Even Mbye who was on the outer, is being managed well.

Maybe Madge isn't managing the bench rotation well. Maybe there are tweeks here and there. But if everyone is saying "we like playing at the Tigers", and we are training hard. Then we are building well.

We see how Parra has been torn apart by infighting. We want players to stay with the Tigers and build their careers here. We want people saying were a good club because that will attract talent.

How many years has it taken Brad Arthur at Parra, ? Building takes time. Madge is getting the culture right.

Well many on here just can’t see it.
So slashing and burning is the only answer.
Well I agree with you mate and am sticking …. It may not be working but believe me we will get there.
If we change our course now and get a new coach AND he fails to get immediate positive results ….. we are well and truly stuffed. The media will have a field day and we’ll be in worst place than we are now.
This season is done and dusted …. If this time next season we don’t improve THEN and only THEN we have given the coach and his roster sufficient time ….

Sounds about right. We will have given him a fair shot by then and we will still be in the same spot. By that time we will have finalised our contract offer to Freddy Fittler and hopefully he'll put his money where his mouth is.

Interesting thought @rihannafan1 re Freddy Fittler.

The trouble is we have players in our team getting paid more than better players in better teams. No wonder coaching them is difficult.

I think Madge needs to forget about coaching football for the moment with this lot.

He needs to cut/drop the ‘senior’ players who are not performing and over paid.

With those he can’t cut/drop he needs to put some management strategies in place to reach and motivate this collection of individuals who have extremely ‘low ambition’ and lack the intrinsic motivation to do it for themselves.

Then he needs to find away to bring them all together.

There is a nucleus of young players at the club he can move this club forward with but they are currently unable to overcome the dead weight of the ‘senior players’ who are dragging them down.

Is he talking about reserve grade in the last 3 quotes

I have been a wests tigers fan since day one and a magpies supporter before that.

I have supported the club when success wasn’t expected, players weren’t on par with the stars other clubs had available. I have embraced supporting an underdog team.

Not having the cattle or resources to compete is one thing, but to watch our players out there with no pride in the jersey, no effort and no enthusiasm is disgraceful.

We either have the wrong coach, or forget all the praise for Hartigan because his recent recruits are terrible regardless of what we are paying them.

Post match press conference pretty accurate today - "we were garbage". Visibly frustrated and will definitely be looking at the team for the next game. He was critical of the line speed and thinks it is more to do with attitude from the players at the moment.

Went into a bit more background on what's happening to rebuild the club, but yeah, he was filthy.

Scary thing is it is almost a guarantee he won't drop anyone...despite the rhetoric, which he is mastering.

Blown away by Parra
40-0 down after 30 v Storm
26-0 and gone early today...

Yet he won't change the pack...

Nofa absolutely slaughtered defensively...yet he won't drop him.

Brad Arthur dropped a much bigger name in Ferguson for two weeks of bad reads...McGuire won't leave out Nofaluma even if he lets three in a week.

"I need to find the guys who are hungry"....zzzzzzzzzzzz same old speech coach...

How about actually back it up for once.

He drops players all the time, I don't know what you are talking about. BJ, Packer, Simpkin, Chee Kam, Stefano, Cini, Mikaele, Musgrove, Seyfarth all dropped inside this half of the season.

Not sure if any of you watched Bennet's press conference. Very, very interesting. He basically said that the media blame the players for these huge blowout scores, but the main problem is with the management of some clubs. He said it is much deeper than blaming the players and suggested a toxic workplace will lead to underperforming in any work environment.. Worth watching if you haven't seen it.

Another dig at Broncos IMO.

Yeah and how was it working out for him at Dragons?

I'm actually deadset serious ay. I think Maguire will do the hardest work and not get to enjoy the fruits of it but he'll leave us in a decent spot. I know, I know, sack Maguire to replace him with Freddy? Only on WTF
But Fittler *would* attract players to the club, no doubt. He'd be finished four Origin series and may want to get back into the league proper. He'd be a big, somewhat respected name after Origin. He bags us, sometimes rightly so, but I actually think he gives a crap about the competition's health and would like us to perform better. What better way to help?

At least Maguire called us out in the presser and didn't go close to mentioning ebbs and flows. Asked for 'men' who wanted to play in the team and said he would look at the team. First of his in a while where he actually said something.

Men vs Broncos

Laurie
AD
Brooks
Liddle
Stef
Seyfarth
Blore
Twal

We’re missing 8-9 ‘men’, could be another long day.

hahaha what, no Tamou?

Twal only played 20 minutes did he not? The last guy I thought who would be put on notice by Maguire.

These are my choices of guys who consistently try. The rest I’d be happy to see rested.

I thought it was the first presser where he sounded like a coach and actually put some sentences together that weren’t one cliche after another. He sounded pissed but like many on here I too don’t think he’ll make wholesale changes.

Dunno what he's got to work with tbh. I'd like to see Blore play more minutes. Tuilagi? Tuki? Cini? No one else down there is ready.

It was pretty obvious in the dressing room prior to the game the players weren't listening to him. That's the end for Maguire.

Yeah, very noticeable. He gave a rev up, he even demonstrated the old 'find your shoulder' technique...and not a single one of them bounced up. They all looked half asleep.

Walters have the Broncs the same speech and some of them were bouncing off the walls after it.

His style just does not work anymore. They need a coach who can improve their techniques and offer real game plans.

They must have listened to his half time speech?
The Rabbits are a top 4 team, there backline is far superior than ours, surely no one thought these last 4 games were winnable?
We have half a team full of kids and some who are just cruising, I mean our little FB was our best player for us today? Getting rid of the bludgers won't be easy atm.

You are delusional, we have conceded 154 points in our last 3 games, including 40 in one half, Madge has lost the sheds, and lost the plot, he needs to go now.
We are no superstar side, but we are far better than the results, seriously mate are you related to Madge

I think we’d struggle to get someone else to coach. Why would u

I don't, Flanagan said in commentary yesterday he was keen to coach again, and Morris would jump at the chance, Madge is cooked, throw him to the curb

Lets sign Flangan up and then sack him half way through a contract. How much deeper can the Tigers dig this hole? Deep enough that they get removed from the comp or merged again?

BTW, Flanagan is a salary cap cheat, a drug cheat and and was caught breaking the rules about coaching the Sharks when he was suspended. Winning by cheating is not the same as winning by coaching.

He has learnt from the past and how to cheat without getting caught next time.

:eyes: :sleuth_or_spy: :innocent: :joy_cat:

At the end of the day for whatever reasons, Madge has this team and club going backwards. It’s obvious the players look unmotivated ,lack cohesion in defence etc I can’t see it changing without a new coach! There is talent and potential in the players but Madge is not forging a winning team at all.

Watched Madges Presser x2

I like his words and commitment to our club.

But in truth, he doesnt have much choice in terms of ready replacements.

Remember this is 15 years of crud. Madge will change this culture, hang on Tigers fans.
