Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

It would'nt matter if he is there for 10 years. The players are not learning anything from him & his other useless coaching staff. Same old same old every week!

Says a lot for the intelligence of the NRL contracted players in our squad...apparently they have played the game since they were six....and still cant earn their paypacket, plumbing, building or selling TVs could be a better proposition for them...

Just watched the post-match press conference - there's a bloke who was struggling to contain his emotions. Looked to me like he wanted to cry and break something at the same time. Very disappointed with the team's mentality - but that's been a problem for years where they don't aim up when it matters most.

Disappointed in how easy we lost the ruck, no line speed in defence and no one willing to do the hard yards to turn that around. Disappointed that the Sharks back 5 went through the WT middle - said they had prepared for it but just didn't deal with it. Another disappointing end to the season.

He keeps saying their mentality is poor...and they don't play 80 mins...and they can't handle ebbs and flows...and they mismanage games...

But aren't all those things 'his' job to teach /coach?

I am always disappointed none of the press there have the gonads to say "hey, coach, those things are all in your job description by the way...and you have had three years..."

Every press conference is exactly the same. He doesn’t know how to fix us, I don’t blame him, we’re a basket case. In 3 years though we’ve gone backwards, he can’t continue

Maybe he should look in the mirror !

I think this is it for Madge. Really, I blame the players much more than him, but at the end of the day we need 10 or 15 of our team axed, or 1 coach. Possibly both, but from managements perspective the players win these choices every day.

Simple business really. Breach of contract and paying the required money to do so for 1 person or the same for 10 to 15 players. I’d love a world whereby there are basic KPI’s written into players contracts. Never gonna happen though. We can’t sign the elite players now, imagine trying sign them and also saying you have to perform or you’re out…..

If Madge is here next season those 2 old age pensioners next to him ned to be flicked, and replaced with someone with a read on this modern fast game the NRL want.

Madge was furious after the game ...he would have made it back to the lockers at least 2-3 minutes before the 1st WT's player

He actually came down to the bench I reckon within about 5 minutes of the 2nd half starting

He had every reason to be disgusted.

Came down to the side line, do a little dance for the cameras.

Pick the same team next week.

Rinse, repeat...

@cochise ; Remember when I use to claim you were accepting of medocority and pleased with us coming 9th? What I would do for a 9th place finish.... very dark years ahead I believe.

Hopefully next week Ivan can help get another coach out of wests

Why did we sign Madge when he was kicked out from souths and no other club wanted him ? Wests Tigers, cut your future financial losses and sack him now.

There is no financial loss the club pays zip if he is punted apparently in his contract !

Of course there’s a loss. There might be a cap on how much but there’s always going to be a pay out.

Custer was confident of total victory a better comparison would be Von Paulus in November 1942

madge, nice bloke but players not playing for him lets not kid our selves after 3 years we have gone backwards. why people defend him god no,s why. cant attract a decent player, gets turned down more than me in a halifax nightclub haha

Well those players who aren’t “playing for coach” can move on and we get more adults in the team. Wooshka!!! Problem solved! ?

True, if you don't want your $5-10k a week, then go play park footy for beer money.

There’s no single solution imo, but the club has made a statement by hiring a tough minded coach who will stay the course and continue to reinforce a healthier team behaviour. That’s what the hard training does, it makes players uncomfortable, Madge needs to do more to get players out of their comfort zone. This will help them build self confidence and extinguish any thoughts they may have that their poor form is someone else’s responsibility. The worst thing Madge can do is stop delivering the positive message.

The words hard, tough don't equate to smart. I believe this is what we are witnessing at WTs.

We have had coaches of varying previous success, different personalities and different attitudes

The most successful of all those coaches coached us for 10 seasons and made the finals three times.

It is equal parts a problem with the playing group.

You wld think our Chairman who does this stuff daily and being one of the best at it... wld have some sort of get out clause for Madge...?
Because we sure need it
Performance and position on ladder explains the what..Tales from Tigertown explains the why
Just cldnt go thru another year of this rubbish

I like Madge. I like his attitude and right now I think he really is the only one in the dressing she'd who cares about the jersey.

He's not cutting through.

Madge can believe what he wants…. But if the players dont… well thats an issue… maybe they do as well? Maybe they are just not good enough? Something has to give.
