Yep. Quote:

The current team, however, consists of too many players with half-a-million-dollar incomes and 10-cent attitudes.

They can blame a disconnect with their passionate coach, snicker at club directors and argue who deserves the bulk of the blame, but if Wests Tigers want to end their 10-year nightmare of failing to make the play-offs, the players need to examine the inadequacies inside their own uniforms.
Like Madge, Masters wasn't a muck around type. Puts the blame where it should lie - spoilt self-entitled players.

“Changing teams and changing pathways of clubs takes a little bit of time. It doesn’t mean you can’t get better performances on the park — I’ll acknowledge that — but it’s about continually sticking to the path of where we’re going with this group."

This part from the press conference makes me think Madge knows the club is considering moving him on.

Oh well - Bellamy, Ciraldo or Bennett. I don't believe anyone else could give us any different result than we've had with this team for the last 10 years.

Even Ciraldo could end up on shaky ground if things didn't go according to plan for any decent length of time. We'd probably ruin his promising-looking career if our history is anything to go by..

A bit left field but from what I perceive of Madge, I wouldnt be totally surprised to see him fall on his sword. Would depend on the contractual details, how much he stands to lose I guess.

"During Pascoe’s tenure the Tigers have finished 15th, 9th, 14th, 9th, 9th, 11th and 13th.

When you’re collecting $400,000 plus a season as the boss of a joint blindly bumbling from one disaster to the next then it’s impossible to be immune from criticism.

"Under Pascoe’s watch Tigers members and fans have had to endure the ill-fated move from ex-coach Jason Taylor to get rid of club legend Robbie Farah, the departure of local junior and NSW State of Origin fullback James Tedesco and the Ivan Cleary experiment, to name but a few.

Are the CEO and the head of football just as culpable as the coach Michael Maguire?"

So he will be another brooks. We all like him and want him to do well and ten years later we are still waiting. This tigers mentality of not changing anything and hoping things will come good needs to change.

Imagine a struggling club giving the SuperCoach a 10 day deadline to decide if he is going to leave his current club a year early.
Should of, from day one agreed to move on from Cleary internally, agreed with Bennett to start in 2020 and figured out the rest afterwards.

That's not the narrative though. There wasn't a guarantee Bennett would ever leave Brisbane, because it was a tug of war between him and certain senior elements on the Broncos Board.

Bennett said, now in writing, he was open to taking the Tigers position but couldn't honourably leave his Broncos side a year early (also contractually he's not permitted to). Now maybe Bennett is some mad loyalist or maybe he was forcing the Broncos' hand for a super-duper payout for his troubles, but whatever the reason he was hanging around until at least the end of his contract, and if he could outstay or out-result the naysayers within the Broncos, there's also a chance he re-signs with Broncos. Wayne Bennett is not a political mug, he's been at it for a very long time.

So I don't see anywhere suggested that Bennett was willing to sign on for 2020 with Tigers without knowing his exact future at Broncos. That was never the offer and I've never heard it said that Bennett was willing to come a year later. Bennett has only ever said "I can't leave the Broncos right now". And then, months later, Bennett gets the chop.

Well you can read between the lines. When someone says I want to coach you but I still have a year left with Brisbane and I’m not going to leave them without finishing the job does give an indication that he was ready to move on.

You can slice it, dice it anyway you feel.

The reality is the CEOs ego wouldn’t let his former mate leave the club with out being in a position to give him the finger in return.
Madge was appointed and Cleary was released.

Read the statements at the time. I’m pretty sure I read Pascoe quoted as saying we have an upgraded by appointing Maguire as the coach.

2020 was just not an option for our inept administration.

It was never said anywhere that Bennett would entertain being signed on for 2020. You are just making it up.

"Reading between the lines" is meaningless, especially if you weren't personally even present at the conversations. You are reading between a fraction of the lines, as reported by people who weren't present.

Well that mantra needn't apply to coaches, by the looks of things.. But in any case, as much as I think it's stupid to change coaches again (and blow a whole lot of cash after only just resigning him - lol), it's clear things have become untenable. I'd be keen for Ciraldo to replace him. I can't think of any other options though..

I love the idea of ciraldo who has worked wonders with panthers defence, working with a mentor like sheens who is great at attack.

i was at the game yesterday, i got there early to watch the warm up, i could tell from the warm up the team werent up for the game, there was no intensity in the warm up and the players were just going through the motions. I then watched the dogs warm up and they were fired up geeing each other up and hitting hard in the warm up it was so chalk and cheese..
This was not a good sign i thought, i was in the corner where Meaney scored his tries, after each there was not one player talking in the huddle not one!!! In attack no one really apart from Blore and Stef wanted to hit the ball up, Liddle was looking for runners and no one showed urgency in attack. I wont go there for defense as i will be here all day. A scrum was formed about 20 out MCK was looking around at the crowd showing no interest at all to which man to mark up to.
My parnter who does not know much about League said it looks like your team doesnt care and why is he looking around not caring. She then said who ever your coach is there not playing for him,
To Noffas defence he was actually cranky and getting up players in defense.
It is clear to me, they are not playing for Madge and have not this whole year, as David Riccio said SEN this morning Maguire is a good coach but he is not a good coach for the Tigers.
It was pretty clear on the FOX show that we dont have leaders and Madge has tried his best but clearly this partnership has to end now. The players must take some responsibility too, i know if i was getting paid a bucket load of money i would try my best for the employer who employees me.
Just my thoughts and please if a review is put forward do not have Pascoe anywhere near it!!

Thanks for the first hand observations , I am always sceptical when people say that tanked or didnt turn up etc .. but by the sounds of it , the players wanted to be anywhere but that field.

Based on those observations , not only should madge go .. but they should sack all the players - even if it means they have to play NSW cup players for next 2 to 3 years due to the payouts as it’s the only way to change the culture of the joint .

i totally agree with you!!! I was so down after leaving the ground yesterday

I mean it’s not totally doom and gloom for a young coach like Ciraldo. Tim sheens in the background, New COE, Ton of cap space and a good relationship with younger players, some that he would know from Penrith. It could be an enticing offer

I like the idea if we can’t get Bennett, get Sheens
to coach next year and have Ciraldo assist then take over in 2023

Ciraldo is not leaving the Panthers to be another assistant coach.

It will end in tears, because, as I tried telling people when a Taylor got sacked, the issues run much deeper than the coach. Only now people are catching on. This place is cancer.

Always find a way to bring Taylor back into the conversation. Taylor is the worst coach this club has ever had and probably the reason we are in the position we are in today. Madge will fall on his sword but atleast he made the changes required to move us in the right direction .

Madge has only had success in the NRL with a team that had Greg Inglis (in his peak), Luke Keary and Adam Reynolds as halves (Legit perfect halves pairing), Sam Burgess (in his peak) and two hookers of Isaac Luke (in his peak) and a handy replacement in Api Korisau.

If we're not going to count premierships that have good players in the team, we're not going to be counting many premierships at all. Clubs like the Roosters have fielded teams where every.single.player is a representative.

I understand it's an achievement but I really don't think it's as relevant as everyone is making it out to be. People seem to put Madge in a tier above others because of that prem, which is ludicrous to me considering the talent. He's about the same as Paul Green. He has shown NOTHING since that premiership.

Answer me this: why do people think he's a good coach? (Without mentioning 2014)

I think he is a good coach....prior to thr game becoming modern..e.g. becoming faster

Its moved away from his ideal style of footy in 2014

Thats my take on it anyway

Exactly why he should be moved on. He cannot adapt. The best coaches do: Hasler, Bellamy

Des is the perfect example of how rosters determine a coaches fate. The Bulldogs couldn't wait to see the back of him due to his coaching -
and stifling of creativity. Now overseeing one of the most naturally gifted rosters in the comp and he gets his cred back.

Des has a very simple game plan as well from 2001..give it to Trbojevic...

Yeah but he's a genius in inventing ways to get it to Trbojevic.
