The Wests Tigers are refusing to guarantee the future of coach Michael Maguire after Sunday’s thumping from the Manly Sea Eagles.

Asked if he could guarantee Maguire would last the season, chairman Lee Hagipantelis was non-committal when questioned by The Daily Telegraph.

“I can’t guarantee that the sun will come up tomorrow,” Hagipantelis said.

“After 33 years as a lawyer the word guarantee has never fallen out of my lips.

“You can’t guarantee anything. Still, I’m not saying his job is on the line.”

Hagipantelis said he was shocked by reports the Wests Tigers were on the verge of holding a crisis meeting to axe the coach.

His contract was recently extended for two years but there is a performance clause in the deal.

“There’s no crisis meeting at there’s no suggestion at all we’re terminating the coach,” Hagipantelis said.

“I spoke to all out directors at the ground. There was no talk of any meetings about Madge. It’s not happening.”

“We’re all disappointed of course, but we’ll take a deep breath and start again.

“We’re grossly disappointed with the result but we won’t panic.”

How about sack Pascoe? Hes the CEO of the worst club in the NRL. In private industry, how long does the CEO ride out the inability to reach its KPIs? The head of the snake must be chopped off. See ya Pascoe and board you're next. You can't keep sacking coaches if the looser disease is infested deep within the organisation.

Honestly I am torn about this. We can't keep sacking coaches? Who will we recruit next? No one will want to come as a stint at the tigers appears to be a career killer.

I have massive doubts about Madge's ability. I also hate the fact that he won't hire decent assistants because of his history. I cannot understand how his contract was extended.

I don't think that there are too many other coaches under pressure, and those on the market will likely still be there are the end of the season.

Unless you are bringing in an interim coach on trial, you can keep Madge until close to the end of the season while doing due diligence on available coaches. If you are bringing in a long term coach, you want them in a couple of months before the end of the season so that they can help decide whether to re-sign off contract players.

Big fan of Madge..invests a lot of emotional energy into WTs and makes some astute decisions...but its just not working ....
Defence structures ineffective....playmaking/kicking game a disgrace....and no real comittment from playing group..
PLUS hes a liability in attracting quality players
Results driven business and its time to change direction

Our roster is bad but I can see Madge starting to lose his mind. I think he needs help and would bring in the Sheenius as a coaching director. We need players and time with pathways providing talent.

We are a bottom 4 roster but the lack of effort is troubling. We just fold like a deck chair.
I can handle losing but we must fight.

I personally think our roster isn't that bad...Maguire has just lost them

Our roster is worse than any team except the bulldogs. Some promising players but it’s 15/16 teams. Our roster is the problem it’s a bottom 4 team all day. Wayne Bennett or Trent Robinson may get us to 12th.

I don’t think our roster is that bad. Cleary did much better with less.

much less ??? didnt he have a intire cap to work with ?????
and most those players form didnt drop straight away mbye and packer werent always bad for us

Maybe so, but on paper that team wasn’t as good as this one. Cleary is a much much much better coach

Pffft has he won a premiership? He is not a better coach. I think Madge and Cleary are around the same level.

We need a Bellamy,Robinson to get this rabble off the ground.

Pascoe has to go to.

I actually don’t care that he’s won a premiership. It’s pretty obvious who’s the better coach.

Over his coaching career Cleary has a lower win percentage than Madge. Has never won anything. He's a bog average coach with an insanely talented squad.

I remember getting myself and others getting downvoted for suggesting we don't extend Madge until results deserved such as we were getting worse.

That must have really bothered you... Better now?

The stupidity behind it bothered yes, not the action and I certainly don't feel better that another failure has played out, particularly as it was an obvious contender for it.

Madge doesn't seem to be able to attract any high quality players, that's a problem in itself.

I don't know, I don't know what I want to happen with Madge really. Yeah the PR thing of so many coaches isn't a good look, but then neither is getting flogged a number of weekends.

The SMH article by Chammas about fed up Tigers officials, crisis meetings and internal reviews looks to me like a death sentence for Madge. Not sure Madge is the problem anyway.

The huge question for the club is this

We are going to have a war chest for 2022

Will Madge attract the talent we need ...or do we need someone else as they don't have faith in Madge or don't think he will be around long enough and have no idea who the next coach will be

I said after the cowboys game Madge had a month to save his job.
The South's game was an improvement, but back to the rubbish today.

If we lose to dragons and titans he will be gone. I was a fan of his up until a month ago but it looks like he has lost the dressing room.
He has no game plans and can't adapt mid game. Our attack is robotic and our defense has no structure. 13 players defend g on their own, not as a team.

Ciraldo and Flanagan may be options??

It's clear how much he cares and he seems like a great bloke. But he isn't getting results. Simple as that.

A premiership isn't rewarded to the guy who cares the most.

So in all seriousness, if Madge falls on his sword, who would be the most ideal coaching option out there at the moment?

Come on down Johnny Cronk, the guy not even the Sharks were happy to retain.

I believe Shane Flananang should be made head coach. He is a strong defensive coach a gets the most out of his players and is looking for any opportunity?

You don't mind he's a proven cheat?

Don't stop there. Fold the entire club. The club has no hope. This club if left in the comp will not make the finals for the next 100 years minimum. Get out while you're young people. There is no hope for this club. They have the worst culture in world sport.
