Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

Today proved that Madge has the players' support.

They still looked like an uncoached rabble, but there's no doubt they all put in. You don't do that for a coach you want to get rid of.

I loved Tamou's reaction at the end of the game. Pure passion.

I don't care whether he has the players support or not, I bet they'll play like a heap of garbage either next week or the week after. They should keep him as coach because he's building the team the right way. This year the squad is bad, hopefully next year is a better year for us and we can judge him then. On a side note, I really liked the look of the talk he gave at the start of the match. We need a coach who talks tough to the players.

Does anyone actually believe this tripe?

Definitely plausible. You wouldn't rule it out would you?

If it's by the DT then yes I would rule it out. They are completely despicable.

Worst paper in Australia, and always has an agenda.

Murdoch media is arguably the most biased and ignorant media that isnt state owned in the world.Sadly they have far too much power in too many countries

Absolutely, I’m ashamed to say that Murdoch was born here, he’s a vindictive and selfish person in control of an absolutely evil, and despicable media company that actively pollutes the world and tries to destroy the democratic society of enlightened world societies

The only person getting consistent preferential headlines from this ‘dirt bag rag’ is “King ScoMo” - also a dirt bag himself!

Is it true he has a mural at Engadine Maccas?

Yes, I believe it is painted in a popular 70’s colour ........ Mission Brown

Maybe they put in for themselves? The first half attack was diabolical, but the 80 minute effort was a pleasure to see

Adam Douehi on the ABC after the game was interviewed and made It pretty clear about his opinion of Maguire. No generic responses or "ums and ahs". He was direct and positive.

I’ve changed my mind on Madge after last weeks game I was calling for his head but after thinking about it all week and watching how the boys all stood if for him in the week and how they turned up for him today
I think he is the rite man to bring us out of this mess he acts just as you would want your team to act always puts in 100% there is zero nonsense about him. This is a very young side there is going to be times where we struggle we just have to hope the boys keep putting in as much effort as Madge does

Hope you don’t change your mind again if they get flogged on the weekend

Not sure about a mural at any stage, but a plaque at some point.

Game means nothing if we don’t back it up against the Titans. We don’t have to win but we need to be in the contest. Jury is still out on madge and Brooks. Can they back it up two weeks in a row?

Not sure if this was similar but he had this to say: https://bit.ly/3urwpml
Doueihi is close with Maguire and said the speculation hurt him.

"To see the stuff people have said about Madge has hurt me personally and I know it hurt the boys," he said.

"To come out (against the Dragons) and play for him, play for our club and play for our crowd was a big effort from us."

You're 100% correct. I would trust Xi's China Daily more than the Daily Telegraph, but thankfully I don't read either. The "power" you speak of though only comes from the ignorance of those who read it and accept it as being truthful.

as a population we get smarter every day.

Trusting the China Daily may be a bridge too far for me though.

Madge rev-up and an accountability lunch over beers restores ‘belief’ at Wests Tigers

A passionate Maguire's pre-game rev-up and an accountability lunch over beers has been credited for instilling “belief” in the embattled Wests.

Tigers halfback Luke Brooks revealed the “pressure” had been relieved after the team’s crucial win over St George Illawarra.

Brooks revealed Maguire’s plea to play passionately and represent the Tigers’ jumper with pride resonated with the players.

“We’ve seen some good ones from Madge – but this was probably a seven or an eight out of 10,” Brooks said about Maguire’s pre-game speech.

“He did get a bit fired up right before the game, right before we were about to run out.
“It worked for us. It was good to see the passion from Madge. He has plenty of passion for our side and plenty of belief.”

Maguire also laid a strong platform for accountability in the lead-up to the Dragons game when he invited the players for lunch at a western Sydney pub to openly discuss the team’s woes.

He directly asked the playing group for feedback, including any issues with him as the head coach. Brooks said the players quickly dismissed any concerns with Maguire and shifted the focus to the team’s poor on-field form.

“A few of the boys spoke up and everyone said we’ve got to look at our individual performances,” he said.

“It is easy to blame other people, but you’ve got to look at yourself in the mirror and fix your performance first.
“But we are the ones playing, so he (Madge) wanted to hear what our thoughts were.

“We are committed. We’ve proven that we can match it with the best teams, so we’ve just got to go out and do that every week.”

Tigers captain James Tamou praised Maguire for putting himself in a vulnerable position and opening the door for player criticism.

Tamou believes this open mentality is a testament to the coach’s passion to see the Tigers succeed. “Madge is very passionate – if he could, he would strap on the boots and run out with us and make the tackles,” Tamou said.

“He is that passionate, and that is why everyone loves him.
