Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

The Titans squad/coach are going through the same self reflection in relation to their performances of late - it will be an each way bet as to who comes out on top.

Too much info getting out ......again

Too much excitement, we haven’t held a side to 8 or less since round 7 2020 against the hapless dogs.

WERE BACK BABY

Madge rev-up and an accountability lunch over beers restores ‘belief’ at Wests Tigers

A passionate Maguire's pre-game rev-up and an accountability lunch over beers has been credited for instilling “belief” in the embattled Wests.

Tigers halfback Luke Brooks revealed the “pressure” had been relieved after the team’s crucial win over St George Illawarra.

Brooks revealed Maguire’s plea to play passionately and represent the Tigers’ jumper with pride resonated with the players.

“We’ve seen some good ones from Madge – but this was probably a seven or an eight out of 10,” Brooks said about Maguire’s pre-game speech.

“He did get a bit fired up right before the game, right before we were about to run out.
“It worked for us. It was good to see the passion from Madge. He has plenty of passion for our side and plenty of belief.”

Maguire also laid a strong platform for accountability in the lead-up to the Dragons game when he invited the players for lunch at a western Sydney pub to openly discuss the team’s woes.

He directly asked the playing group for feedback, including any issues with him as the head coach. Brooks said the players quickly dismissed any concerns with Maguire and shifted the focus to the team’s poor on-field form.

“A few of the boys spoke up and everyone said we’ve got to look at our individual performances,” he said.

“It is easy to blame other people, but you’ve got to look at yourself in the mirror and fix your performance first.
“But we are the ones playing, so he (Madge) wanted to hear what our thoughts were.

“We are committed. We’ve proven that we can match it with the best teams, so we’ve just got to go out and do that every week.”

Tigers captain James Tamou praised Maguire for putting himself in a vulnerable position and opening the door for player criticism.

Tamou believes this open mentality is a testament to the coach’s passion to see the Tigers succeed. “Madge is very passionate – if he could, he would strap on the boots and run out with us and make the tackles,” Tamou said.

“He is that passionate, and that is why everyone loves him.

I could understand this article if we won 4 or 5 on the trot and were entrenched in the 8. Not one ugly win against an average side, with no guarantees of backing it up.

I think we need to get John Lang in as a coaching director. He set up the roster and schemes that turned Madge into a premiership winning coach. Maybe he can do it again.

Anyone who bought the accountability crap Madge was spruiking last week is very gullible.
For the second time in 3 weeks they failed to fire a shot in a Tommy memorial game, for the 3rd time in 4 games they have shown no commitment at all.
If Madge can't get them fired up last night, he is not the coach for this club, the players clearly don't listen to him, or want to play for him.
It's time to send him packing, our attack is god damn awful, Brooks is like a deer in the headlights in the opposition red zone, and our defence is even worse than the attack.
Madge has actually taken an ordinary side and made them worse, there is no reason to let this rot continue, we could be last after todays game, the lack of pride in the jersey is disgusting, and heads need to roll.
Madge banged on about accountability last week, well it's his turn to feel the wraith of this, our current players won't play for him, any good players won't come to play for him, why should we persist down this deadend road

Madge is a highly respected coach but...
**STICKING** with **Brooks** and **Mbye** every week shows you're a dud like them. I would rather see the team lose with players that have confidence, pride and have a future at the club.

I'm a Madge fan but it's hard to argue with any of that.

Changing coaches mid season rarely if ever ends well for the club involved. In our case, apart from Madge's payout (reportedly $600k) we have to find someone better and then accommodate their ideas as to roster makeup both immediate and going forward. That said, if Madge has in fact lost the dressing room, we have no option but to part ways.

To rebuild our roster properly, it might be best if Madge moves on for both parties. He seems like a hardworking guy and A genuine guy but he just doesn't have the player pull to get us the players we need, I don't think he is a rebuild coach.

How's the Sharkies going since parting way with Morris..

The situation is very different with the Sharks. Morris had the Sharks to two top 8 finishes and most feel he was harshly treated. Word among Sharks' supporters here is that he was very popular with players.

found it interesting he had no say at all on signings/re-signings.

He was viewed as an interim coach but he may have surprised the Sharks' Board.

They were winning with Morris. We’re a joke under Madge

Who would turn their nose at two top 8 finishes? If WTs managed that we'd be in raptures. Look where we are and some supporters are still backing Maguire. He'd be out the door quick smart at many clubs.

Are you thinking Morris might be the answer here?

More SACK everybody is not a magic potion...for those that believe it would be....

I guess the thing I see in the truely long term successful sides is stability while drawing a line..

I can't believe anyone listens to what Maguire says. Morris would be great at our club, he knows the politics, some of the players and has the experience of the success of the Sharks' Pathways.

I'm glad we haven't sacked him yet. I don't think we are performing and the coaching staff clearly are partially to blame.

I listened to his press conference just then and I don't think he is the problem. I think we need to let him at least fulfill his contract.
