I just read sterlo saying Sheens is going to be Head of Football performance. Is that true or is it, as I read on here, pathways related?
I can't find the announcement of his signing.

There you go

https://www.weststigers.com.au/news/2021/06/05/wests-tigers-appoint-tim-sheens-as-head-of-football-performance/

"Sheens, who remains the longest-serving coach in Wests Tigers history and guided the club to its maiden Premiership in 2005, will take up the newly-created role aimed at supporting pathway development and planning, recruitment, football administration, club culture and ensuring sustainability in all aspects of the organisation."
**> The buck stops with Tim. His word is final, regardless of boards decisions?**

Certainly not unless the board has delegated full authority which wouldnt happen.

Owners decide the board, board decides the chairman.
Board then act on the decisions based on the plan of the owners (obviously most of this stuff is delegated below eg. a CEO, Head of Football Performance)

Whether this decision even reached the board, or whether the CEO had the authority to create the job position and subsequently fill it with one T. Sheens we will never know i guess.

Circling back - you might find whats important to the Board (re: Owners) is Commercial Viability and winning football games might not be as important.

Promote Gardiner with Sheens overseeing until end of year and maybe next year look at Adrian Lam from Wigan

Adrian Lam is a no from me but i'd have no problem with Gardiner, at least in the interim. Gardiner has done well with the KOE Cup side and would already have a good working relationship with many of the players.

why would we look at Lam? Wigan are hopeless at the moment. Gardiner, Ciraldo and Morris are the three I would initially look at. apart from that, you try and get Payten out of his contract at the Cowboys.

Adrian Lam was just a thought but I agree probably not who we need.
Gardiner agree has worked with KOE side and hopefully a people person with Sheens helping him worth a shot as the message doesn't seem to be getting through with Madge

basically anyone except Madge no people skills it can't just be the players he has lost thendressing room
Ciraldo would be good but no way he will come here
Morris would be ok
Payment no chance we let him go years ago we won't bring him back
Either way we need Sheens helping get big names over the line the line us as it is not working with Madge

I reckon Madge will walk away

I hope so, the club don't look like they are game to pull the trigger, we have a 2 week break, something has to give

If Madge couldn't do it...

Hopefully the next guy can.

We've been burning through coaches for years. No issues have been addressed.

If Madge can’t get it done we are toast. If people can’t see that they must be blind to the reality of our footy club. It’s management has been for years. Sheens is a wise move he understands grass roots footy. We have no experience in player identification and development any more. The days of multiple good tigers young players are finished. Many of the good young players were poached.

We should have a pipeline of young talent in our catchment it’s embarrassing we are so bad and have to recruit and pay too dollar.

Madge said in the presser the other night that a lot of things at the club and around the club such as pathways are all going in the right directions and the first grade team does not reflect that.

To me, it sounds like everything within the club is going well - COE, lower grades, pathways, sponsorship, community stuff, even the cap is getting back to a good spot... it's just the first grade team is the only thing struggling.

We need a review of the FG team desperately. We all do this on here every week but the powers that be need to bust out the red pen and make some harsh decisions and have a strategic plan how our team can be competitive

Waiting 5 years for our youth to develope is a slow burn. In theory, it's great but we aren't going to to be stoked with 14, 15th place finishes every year.

I agree but when you get pathways right you are talking about 16-19 year olds. It won’t filter through until 3 years. It has to be done and it looks like they are moving in the right direction.
Sheens has to look at the coaching structure right through to juniors It seems like younger players are not ready and are learning on the job. Penrith juniors come straight in and looks ready from day one.

That is exactly why we have made the appointments in Pathways we have over the last 12 months

Who are the good CEO’s out there..

Good question

Is the CEO’s primary function to manage the books or manage a football side?
I know it’s not simply one or the other but I would have thought the commercial side was the bigger focus

You are correct.

They've lost a few games with a stack of injuries, but they are still in the top half of the table, and they are consistently in the top 2 or 3 teams - including under Lam. They and St Helens are the Super League equivalent of Melbourne.

Man you guys think its hard to attract players now, sack Madge and replace with Lam, Ciraldo, Morris and see how they all flock to us.

Craig Fitzgibbon managed to sign the breakout player of the competition without coaching a single game of NRL, who's to say it can't happen with one of them?

No I think he gives advice in a broad range of subjects without being the ultimate boss of any of them.

Yeah. It's quite ambiguous. He either supports all area with advice, or he supports it all by being in charge.

He will give advice in all, no one in the club reports directly to Sheens.

Gardiner with Sheens sitting above wouldn't be a deterrent to players though, which would be a step forward.

If you are a competitor and you want to win wouldn't you get dirty at blokes playing like they don't give a rat's? I think it would be far more concerning if they weren't bickering at least it demonstrates that some dont think it's ok.

I have belief in our playing group. To me it looks as though they're playing without confidence. A breath of fresh air from an old friend of the Club in Tim Sheens will work wonders. Just having the father figure around to advise, have a few chats and make suggestion will be beneficial.

Mate you have got him as the second coming - the pressure is on Sheens - the saviour of all saviours. I'm expecting miraculous turnaround when he arrives.

His style of football was WTs. We've gone away from it. Time we reclaimed our identity as a team that throws the ball around . We've got great potential in the lower grades and if anyone can make the most of it, it is Sheens.

Sheens could not get a coaching position in the NRL after we sacked him so he went to the UK as a coach.Moving forward he cant get a job there as one either (poor results).
He needs to be kept as far away from coaching as possible,it is a good idea to use him in the background with developing pathways but not in a coaching capacity

Yeah our current coaching staff are doing awesome why would you use a bloke with more experience than Bennett. **Madge and co could be reporting to sheens**

But there not, you need to let it go.

They will be let go first

All good, as long as you don’t get upset about it.

Thanks sweetie

Morris got them to finals twice in difficult circumstances. He was also popular with the playing group except for one or two players.

Morris i'd be happy with, as I would be with Gardiner. There's many options i'd be happy with. Certainly a better idea imo than perpetually rolling over the roster for 100 years until a)Madge miraculously gets a team he can coach or b) he dies of natural causes in old age.
