I just read sterlo saying Sheens is going to be Head of Football performance. Is that true or is it, as I read on here, pathways related?
I can't find the announcement of his signing.

There you go

https://www.weststigers.com.au/news/2021/06/05/wests-tigers-appoint-tim-sheens-as-head-of-football-performance/

"Sheens, who remains the longest-serving coach in Wests Tigers history and guided the club to its maiden Premiership in 2005, will take up the newly-created role aimed at supporting pathway development and planning, recruitment, football administration, club culture and **ensuring sustainability in all aspects of the organisation."**

The buck stops with Tim. His word is final, regardless of boards decisions?

No I think he gives advice in a broad range of subjects without being the ultimate boss of any of them.

Yeah. It's quite ambiguous. He either supports all area with advice, or he supports it all by being in charge.

He will give advice in all, no one in the club reports directly to Sheens.

Does he report to the CEO?

Yes

Promote Gardiner with Sheens overseeing until end of year and maybe next year look at Adrian Lam from Wigan

why would we look at Lam? Wigan are hopeless at the moment. Gardiner, Ciraldo and Morris are the three I would initially look at. apart from that, you try and get Payten out of his contract at the Cowboys.

Man you guys think its hard to attract players now, sack Madge and replace with Lam, Ciraldo, Morris and see how they all flock to us.

Gardiner with Sheens sitting above wouldn't be a deterrent to players though, which would be a step forward.

Have you already dumped Morris?

Morris i'd be happy with, as I would be with Gardiner. There's many options i'd be happy with. Certainly a better idea imo than perpetually rolling over the roster for 100 years until a)Madge miraculously gets a team he can coach or b) he dies of natural causes at old age.

But does the next coach (and the one's after) get to roll over the roster, until they get a team they can win with? How many years will this take?

It's all about improvement. If there are promising signs from the new coach and we're heading in the right direction, party on. As long as there is improvement on the field I wouldn't push for any coach to be sacked. However if it becomes a dumpster fire like we currently have where players aren't improving, we're playing like crap and getting progressively worse, sack him. It's a results driven business.

It's a perpetual rolling over of the roster without the five year plan. As we've witnessed, you sign players, get them offside, therefore they're not good anymore and bingo you have your excuse for the next three years. Win win.

Ok if Maguire is gone tomorrow as it's a results driven business can someone advise as to how long the next Coach gets to produce results...?

Who are the good CEO’s out there..

Good question

Is the CEO’s primary function to manage the books or manage a football side?
I know it’s not simply one or the other but I would have thought the commercial side was the bigger focus

You are correct.

So the amount of hate for Pascoe surprises me if that’s the case. The clubs better than it’s been for some years in a financial sense and the COE underway as well as the increased investment in the football dept through the new pathways and head of football performance roles due to the improvement in the financial performance would suggest he’s done alright would it not? I know he appointed Madge but he had to pick from available candidates and besides Bennett, who wasn’t released until later anyway, Madge was the best of what was available. I also recall the Robbie ambassador role was a bun fight but other than that, curious why many think he needs to go

I did answer the question though, I want to see improvement in on field results and if that improvement is sustained the coach is safe as far as i'm concerned. I'm happy for that improvement to be incremental. Putting a time limit on it is too arbitrary.

Thing that kills me the most is looking at the points differential on the ladder. Out of the bottom 8 we’ve scored the second most amount of points, we’ve also outscored the sharks who are in the top 8 and have only scored 10 less than the dragons. The bulldogs just lost 66-0 and they’re still better defensively than we are. How do you solve this defence

Who's defence coach & what's he doing?

Defence coach is Madge. He handles it himself.

Shane Millard ?
Wayne Collins ?

**‘I need to find men’: Michael Maguire flags roster overhaul as Tigers lashed over ‘garbage’ loss**

A frustrated Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire has lashed his team’s “garbage” performance as they sunk to a new low at their spiritual home.

The Tigers treated defence like it was optional as the Rabbitohs piled on seven tries in a 38-22 training run.

It came off the back of Maguire’s men conceding an embarrassing 66 points in their previous outing against the Storm.

It was a good thing there were no fans at the ground because the players would have been booed off at Leichhardt Oval for the second time this season.

A month to the day after they stunned the Panthers, Michael Maguire’s side folded as the Origin-in-waiting halves of Cody Walker and Adam Reynolds picked them apart with consummate ease.

Speaking after the match Maguire said they needed to fix their diabolic starts to games.

“For three weeks, our starts have been ordinary. We have to be accountable for that,” he said.

“It’s sad to say that our start looked like a training run for Souths. It’s very disappointing to see us start like that.

“I need to find men who are going to be accountable for what we’re doing. That’s not acceptable for where we’re going with the club.

“Our first half was garbage.”

Maguire, who said there was no repeat of the silent treatment he gave his side at halftime during the Storm hammering, said he would use the rest of the season to work out which players had a future at the Tigers.

“I’ll be definitely having a look at the team,” Maguire said.

“They’ve got a week now where they can go away from footy for a while.

“I want to find the ones that are ready to take Wests Tigers forward.”

“We’re very focused on where we want to get to. Seeing a performance like that is disappointing because the effort around the organisation is a strong club.

Maguire has challenged his players' manhood publicly (or even privately)and that is the end for him. Football aside, that is unacceptable and he should be asked to attend the CEO's office this morning. No wonder we're viewed in less than positive light.

??

The players need to man up.
I think it's fair what Madge said.

Said he wants players that are hungry and want to lead the tigers to success.

Heads should roll after last night's game.

I'd be taking aim at Nofo, Mbye, anyone else.
All needing to be dropped.

He's trying to build a team and makes this comment in the press?

Absolutely unacceptable and counterproductive to what the WTs' Club is attempting to achieve.

He’s shifting the blame. He was very happy with the roster he put together but now apparently he’s been hamstrung by salary cap.

Perhaps our CEO should inform Maguire of this document.

National Rugby League Member Protection Policy – July 2015

Are you trying to insinuate that criticism of Madge is harassment?

Paws is the leader of criticism of Maguire.

Alienating the playing group is not going to win their respect or confidence. The blame shifting is also predictable.

Everything about this situation is predictable - this what this club is about. Why change now?

We have to do things better. I hope our CEO is on top of this and ends this situation. Can Sheens be released from quarantine early? Tim we need you now!

Sheens was the one who is on the record saying "players sack coaches" - the irony of that comment can't go unnoticed if Maguire is sacked and we still have not made a finals series since sacked coach Sheen makes his white knight return.

It seems ironic that a team full of mediocre players could get a mediocre board to sack a coach with a mediocre record at the club, while his record at his previous two clubs was not mediocre.

I feel quite mediocre after reading this. Thank you.

I do not know why there is so many that are opposed to Maguire being punted..who cares if you burn through coaches that just means there has not been one that is good enough to succeed .
3 seasons and a team that is just and I mean just making up the numbers , 3 seasons is long enough to prove that you still deserve to coach on .. IMO Maguire does not deserve another season and it is also time this club gets its act together and sign a coach and players that will finally attain some success on the field we have WAITED long enough , if this is to hard maybe others should be looking for another job.

They have few testicles between them, it is a statement of fact.

It is counterproductive to team building, cohesion and performance. And importantly, how do you believe other players outside the club will view WTs as a destination? Are we that naive to think word does not get around?

So we should be announcing in a press conference that players like Mbye actually had a great game, in the hopes that Brandon Smith might then decide he wants to come here?

Good players do not want to play with our squad.

To be fair why would any good player want to come and be lectured by a lunatic every week. You could see Everyone’s eyes glazing over.

Do you think Bellamy is not an angry ranting lunatic?

Nope. If you look at the shots in the dressing room he’s seated and talking normally 99% of the time. He blows up a couple of times a year when he needs to.

Bellamy has never had to deal with a squad like this. There is absolutely no evidence to support how he would or wouldn't react.

Madge can plainly see what he’s doing isn’t working. Why can’t he adapt?

I guess the same reason Adam O Brien couldn't get the best out of his team till his two best players returned from injury and bam - different team.
The same as Des Hasler - four losses in a row - Turbo returns different team
Katoni Staggs return to Broncos yesterday instant improvement.
Trent Robinson gets a few injuries and a weakened side - rookie half - slaughtered by Melbourne.
We have no leaders / quality in our team who can lift the squad but we have a heap that drop their bundle - at a club with a history to sack/ move on coaches and hope that resolves it.
Their first half attitude was inexcusable- whether they are a fan of the coach or not they are paid by the club -well - to do a job.
Maguire may not survive but their are massive deficiencies in that team no matter who coached them.

Good post @Telltails

I think if any one of our last 5 coaches - Sheens, Potter, Taylor, Cleary, Madge - had been here for the last 10 years, i.e. one coach rather than five, we would have made the 8 at least a few times.
