@TYGA if we do keep Madge next year ( which I think the club will do) we will need to have the next coach at club in some capacity. Maybe Gardner

The delusion a couple wins in a row will do. I’m over hearing about how good our young players are. Laurie, AD, Blore, Stefano. Some people talk them up like it’s the early stages of a repeat of 05. It 100% is not. They are ok, but every club has promising rookies. Ours aren’t better than most other clubs
It's a false dichotomy. People think there are 2 choices = sack madge and start rebuild
Or keep madge and continue this rebuild he's doing... we can sack madge, and work with what we've got and continue to rebuild...
What do we have to lose? A new coach will follow a similar focus on junior development, but, god forbid, may actually have us playing well and building on the field too... he may also be smarter and a better coach than Maguire but all that matters is Maguire's prem with Souths and in the SL. All people care about is accolades, not how the coach actually appears... which is kinda of out of touch... and the results directly under his watch... which are horrendous. I will say once again, IVAN CLEARY had us playing better.
The opposite of what you said is true. Sack Madge and hire Flanagan no doubt improves your ability to sign veteran players. Keep Madge and start a rebuild full throttle. That includes releasing Brooks, Tamou and Nofa.
I see it differently Madge is the best coach available for the rebuild with younger players he struggles to attract top end talent.
You can sack Maguire and continue the rebuild. With Sheens and Hartigan aboard the rebuild continues.
I think it’s counter productive. Next coach will fail for at least 2 years. They will be under immense pressure. I would ride it out with Madge at minimum until the end of next year if we don’t improve cut ties. You will attract a better coach further along the rebuild. A lot of our best performing younger players are fans of Madge.
Sacking Madge is not smart. Are we any lower on the table than we should be based on talent? I’d say we are where we deserve to be. I don’t think Bellamy gets this squad any better even though I rate him as the best.

Andrew Johns wrote a column this week where he said that the average teams – ie teams like us – are playing the game in a style that is reminiscent of the Storm of two to three years ago. And he is right.
Like many on this forum I have been watching the game for a long time (the 70s in my case). I have absolutely no idea what our defensive structure is. And it seems nor do the players. What appears to happen though is that it is easy for teams to get overlaps on us.
Nor do we have a ”shape” in attack that is suitable to the modern game. Our attack is the standard attack trotted out by standard teams. The game has moved on – it is a far cry from 2014.
I do not blame the players. Shapes and strategies in attack and defence are the responsibility of coaching staff, not players.
It is blindingly obvious that Maguire must be tapped. Let him finish this season then we should say goodbye. His recent record as a coach demands nothing less. In the last four years his record is pretty bad: in 2016 and 2017, Souths came 12th; at the Tigers he kept us at 9th in 2019, then 11th in 2021. This year we are sliding down to 13th. In the last two years he has about a 30% win rate.
His time is up. His ranting and raving is boring and shows he is limited. Sheens first job must be to get another coach for next year.
I reckon we are headed for the spoon under Maguire next year. I do not see the club improving under him.

In the social media age, all the players from the different clubs talk to each other. Our players don’t like Madge, meaning when other players ask about him in the rare possibility we convince someone to join us, the players will tell them and potential deals could be scuppered.
He must go.

Gee..I hope the next guy fairs better with the dressing sheds...Sheens lost the sheds.. Potter lost the Sheds..Taylor never had the sheds... Voldamort burnt down the sheds.. starting to see a pattern here...new sheds..

Thanks for reply. I agree there are different things to consider, there are different viewpoints and Maguire must have some positive attributes. But I think he has simply run his race here. I think he does not have the ability to be flexible or to adapt. Time to move on for the sake of both parties I think.
Cheers

I agree there is for sure cultural and complacency issues here thanks to being poor for so many years, but doesn't take away from the fact the playing group doesn't play for him, and he must leave imo.
I've heard some terrible things about Maguire's approaches to coaching in recent times which sways my opinion but it should be obvious to all that he has not and will never adapt to the modern game.
He's cooked. Done for. Finished.

I’m willing to give him a year of working with Sheens. He looks to Sheens as a mentor / figure of influence and said as much even before the club looked to bring him back to the club. Will do wonders I think as I believe Madge is the sort of guy that would even review his own performance at seasons end. I don’t hear Madge shifting blame to anyone else. A heap of sides around us were expected to do far better than us this year so there will be a fair bit of player movement end of season I believe. And with our cap space we should benefit the most.

We are a win or two out of the eight this season (with probably 4 wins we should have made comfortably but lost). So next year it’s make the eight or don’t get a new contract. Very fair and very simple. Do now down to the press pressure after 8 rounds etc. that’s going to lead no where. One last year to make the eight or no new contract but we will back you all year. And there will be no dumb recruitment with sheens hartigan etc involved so the risk for another full year is very low.

Asking the men to find it within themselves.
