Madge Maguire - Mega Thread

Just watching Newcastle v Titans. All the time the camera shows the Newcastle coaching box , O’brien and seibold are in constant conversation. Basically 2 NRL quality coaches (I say that loosely) I think Madge needs an former NRL quality coach in the team/box with him, thoughts?

The current guys don't strike me as smart minds helping us move forward.

I'd like Kimmorley and Farah in there.
Or a guy like Johnny Morris.

Yep Morris would be good! first grade experience, did play for us and apparently players like playing under him👍 What other coaches with first grade experience are out there?

You would, Madge can do no wrong and we are on track for a turn around next year when Madges ‘systems” mature and bear yuge dividends according to he and your good self, so it makes sense you would appreciate and agree with his posts… you both could be right but I am seeing NONE of it. I think we are a basket case that is bein atrociously coached and horribly run and are in for a world of hurt next year unless we are coached by someone that can actually improve the teams attack , defence and attitude…

Sad isn’t it.. I did expect that a forum of Tigers supporters would be comprised of people that are loyal AF and wear their heart on their sleeves and are fair minded because to stick with a club like this for 30 years it seemed to me these character traits would be required. Strangely this forum has a few people that seem to get joy out of putting others down and being arrogant about their own opinions and even snobbish about what a true fan would ,could or should hope for from their club.. I wanted to look for camaraderie here and some unity of spirit but seeing people just be nasty and petty and mean to their fellow club fans has dispirited me.

When some of the players "mature" and become familiar with Madges coaching and our system,then maybe next year will be far better and the young guys develop into top NRL players....
I have said it before,Madge is the coach until his tenure is up,I hope the players can be as passionate as Madge is about making this a successful club...
He has faults but so do the players and management ...

I love the club and team,Im quite passionate about this forum as well,I dont know how long you have been a member,but as many here know Iam quite forward with my input on differing subjects that we discuss,however I dont think I have been,arrogant,snobbish or thought I have been better than anyone else on here...

I was just playing and extending the line of thought.

To be honest my problem with Madge is his inability to adjust. I believe he needs a roster to adjust to his suit his coaching style rather than adjusting his coaching style to suit his roster.

Didn't johnny Morris sign with souths as an assistant coach i don't know if anyone has thought of this before why not bring in someone like Micheal hagan as an assistant coach to madge of a coaching adviser to madge along with sheens if not bring in tooves as an assistant coach

Yes I do agree with your train of thought...but just in my defense,I think he also has a lot to offer the young guys and if anyone should know what it takes to survive in the NRL it is Madge...he may have differing ways to approaching the game,but looking after the young guys would be at his forefront...

Didnt say that at all...Im loyal to the club,its coach,players and admin while they try and make this club a success that it should be...I dont always agree with their decisions,but I know they are doing whats best with what they have...
Difference between you and I for example is I try and be patient and see what happens in the not to distant future before hanging them out to dry...because you dont like Madge or his ways because **the results arent that good atm** while he is trying to fix the rotten culture or to develop young talent and you want results yesterday is a result of frustration and not the true indicator of where we are at as a club atm...

But it's not that "the results aren't that good atm" .... They havent been that good for the last three seasons, continually getting worse

I re-watched a 2019 game and boy did the likes of Elijah Taylor, Ben Matulino, Matt Eisenhuth, Chris Lawrence and Robbie Farah make a difference to our line speed and defence. It also allowed our power players in Josh Aloiai and Thomas Mikaele to play their natural game. I really am going back and forth on whether it is Madge or the players and I think it is just a horrible mix of both. The answer would be to get more senior players in the team but that doesn't seem like it happening any time soon.

That sort of team today is a wooden spoon team.
We gave away more penalties to stifle play and turn games ugly it was smart but seriously bad footy. It covered our lack of athletic talent. Rule changes have made our roster deficiencies so glaringly obvious now. There’s no way out of it but rebuilding the club completely. Teams have NSWCuo players that would challenge our team..

I agree Ink,but have we ever had this many young talented guys in the squad WITHOUT solid experienced NRL leaders to show them the way....Madge cant go out there and play with them,he needs the experienced guys to do that....and atm they just arent up to it....

Surely a coach has to come up with a style to suit the players strengths not the other way around. He has shown he is not going to change by chasing more bash and barge props like Thompson. How many props does he need in this joint. I think we need mobile ball playing backrowers and centres, not more props. The game has gone past his methods.
