I think the choice for the off-season is simple. Option A) Sack Brooks. Option B) sack Maguire.

I could honestly live with Maguire staying around if the club selects assistants to help him and to help Brooks pack his bags. But I’ve been a fan long enough to realise that is way easier said than done so option B is definitely the more likely.

Ideal world for me would be to show them both the door but we can’t have everything can we.

Ha so a coach of Cleary's calibre can work with Brooks and in doing so he wins the Dally M, bur Maguire cannot? If this is what you are suggesting, it is an astounding admission of failure on Maguire's part.

Decent players can play under all types of coaches.
Brooks Dally M was a joke.
One thing for sure though - if they gave a Dally M for lousy kicking, lack of creativity, inability to lead a team and TANKING then Brooksy would bolt it in.

This is the stupidity of it all..

Lee and Pascoe have washed their hands of it basically patting each other on the back with all the 'resources' thrown at the football department ..then throwing their hands up in the air wondering why it's not working..

Football doesn't work like that..I could go on but frankly I'm sick of it...

Please let Matterson’s dad know that his son is a complete flog.

Just remember Matterson has had issues at every club he’s been at with every coach he’s had. I’m sure his old man will back whatever fruitless poor me story Ryan can come up to suit his agenda.

I’ve got a mate who was previously the media manager for the Roosters and told me Robinson was glad to see the back of him. Arthur and Matterson have publicly had issues. He doesn’t like authority and is thinks he’s more special than he is. Fittler won’t have him in camp again either.

Madge got the best out of him and Ryan decided he was bigger than the team.

We've had EOIs for the position already. I believe WTs is a great club and is a powerhouse in waiting with the right coach onboard.

Is this fact or did you just read this in an article somewhere?

Good god the coaches fate in the hands of the leaders of the team - who are they Im still trying to figure that out. Players at other clubs must be killing themselves with laughter at the joke. We pay them for this.
And fans ask why we can't attract quality players. The next sucker better come with a mental health plan in order.

Don't you have confidence in Pascoe and Hartigan to filter the feedback? Pascoe's achievements with the Club's finances cannot be denied. He also brought Sheens back onboard. This is about WTs, not Maguire.

Not when it excuses their role in the clubs failure to get results - no. And clearly if they think that the leadership on the field this year is worth listening to - when from the outside looking in every one who knows anything about the game will tell you there wasn't any - then I have no confidence in anything they pretend to filter back.

Do you believe the Club is also receiving input from player managers? Perhaps Sheens has been in contact to remove roadblocks in players joining WTs?

I have no doubt that the reason why Sheens contacted all the player managers. But you can’t excuse Hartigan from that criticism.

But the one point your missing with the recruiting players is if they are professionals they want to strive to achieve something either on an individual level or on a group level. If regardless of a coach and the satisfaction of playing under one that individual can’t see a likelihood of a) being recognised as a rep player or b) being a part of club likely to win a premiership they aren’t going to want to sign with the club.
Even a 5 year contract wouldn’t entice the best player in the game to come here because those 5 years look dim.

Whomever is the coach, having Sheens in and around the Club imo will assist in removing the roadblock to recruiting NRL quality players.

Let’s hope it’s taken a long time to rekindle the Sheens relationship. Still don’t see any light for at least 5 years

We're used to waiting for success. Our younger players will have one more year of experience. I am optimistic Sheens will be on top of this like Ikin was for the Broncos.

I doubt it. How about they define the role first.
Ikins role is a lot clearer, he is essentially doing Hartigans role. If Sheens is going to do the Ikin / Hartigan role what is Hartigan going to do?

Pascoe described his role as a floater.

Needs more fibre in his diet I'd suggest.

West Tigers coach Michael Maguire speaks to the media after his team's defeat during the round 25 NRL match between the Wests Tigers and the Canterbury Bulldogs at Moreton Daily Stadium

Wests Tigers captain James Tamou and fellow forward Luciano Leilua have come out strongly in support of Michael Maguire on the same day Maroons coach Paul Green stepped down from his post in a bid to return to the NRL.

The joint-venture outfit is undertaking a review after the side slumped to a 13th-placed finish in a season that ended with a 38-0 defeat to wooden-spooners Canterbury. The pressure is on Maguire after the Tigers missed the finals for the 10th successive year, despite the fact the premiership-winning coach is contracted for the next two seasons.

However, Tamou and Leilua are adamant that the Kiwis mentor retains the support of the players and should still be given the chance to turn around the club's fortunes.

"As far as Madge goes, you see these things all the time; you read that the coach has lost the playing group. But in our case it definitely hasn't happened with the players and Madge," Tamou told the Herald.

"In terms of players not listening to the words that Madge says, that's far from the truth. When we left Brisbane, everyone gave Madge a handshake and a hug to say that we'll be in touch whenever you need.

"I understand we're in a results-driven business and you want results now. But I've been in a team where Penrith, in 2019, we came 12th or 13th and lost about seven in a row. Come the 2020 season, Jimmy [James] Maloney left and no one gave us a hope - and then we played in the grand final.

"I've been a part of that and that's what I see at the Wests Tigers. You need cohesion for a team to be successful. Everyone wants results now, but it just doesn't happen like that. You need to be in a system playing with each other for a long period of time to understand how people work.

"I think this year hasn't been a total write-off. We've unearthed some talent and the boys now understand what it means to play first grade week in and week out.

"As far as throwing support behind Madge, I'm all for it."

The Tigers are under pressure to make changes after another disastrous season in which they conceded the second most points in a season in the club's 22-year history. The club has been criticised for not being able to sign established players, but Tamou and Leilua - both internationals - shifted to Concord to be coached by Maguire.

"I'm definitely a big fan of Madge," Leilua said. "When he brought me over here, I was only a 20-minute player. He's turned me into an 80-minute player. He's been a big part of not just my fitness but my defence as well.

"I was sort of known as being a bit lazy, but he transformed me into a consistent 80-minute player. The boys in the club love his coaching. He cares for us, he's done a lot for my family as well. I definitely hope he stays with us, I want to continue playing under him at the Tigers."

Green wants to return to NRL coaching, an ambition at odds with the QRL's desire for their clipboard holder to be committed to the Maroons full-time. However, the move is not related to the speculation about Maguire's job; the club is still to decide whether to back or sack him.

"I don't see the sense of packing Madge on his way, bringing in someone else and us having to start all over again," Tamou said.

"This year hasn't been a complete write off, the things we've learnt will be taken into next year. I know next year will be a lot better. It makes no sense to start all over again."

Ikin was asked on 360 before he started his role if his role was clear.

He said the first thing to do is sit down with CEO and coach and all get on the same page.

Role definition is less important than united teamwork across CEO, GM and coach.

That comment above has me quite literally irate.
I get they have been working hard behind the scenes to generate the funding but it’s no good collecting the cash only to drop it off at the deposit point to fix a problem so you can pat your self on your back for a job well done with no actual thought to what else is needed other than funding?

Sheens has done nothing to date to correct our current problems so please stop dropping his name. When he achieves what ever he is employed to do then by all means scream his name from the rooftops.

The Read article this morning advises he has some role in the resolution of the coaching issue. So, it is not only me who is 'dropping his name' but the press.

You do realise that much of what the press writes they lift directly off club supporters forums.

Whilst I agree.
We have our CEO describing his role as a floater in a press release whilst afterwards continually mentioning that Sheens role is in the pathways space. I would of been happy with the announcement that he is a floater rather than be reminded officially that his role is focusing on pathways. Seems like the club is making it up as they go, also lends to a lack of trust in the people currently carrying out their roles.

THE media cannot print deliberate lies about the WT and whatever else they say will not make one iota of a difference about the future of the WT, the WT board would be mature and intelligent enough not to be influenced by their exaggerated and sensationalistic stories, for example the comment by Chammas in his recent article, "Those who know Ciraldo say they don’t believe he would be willing to leave Penrith to take on the role at the Tigers"

This is just a marketing ploy, the same that was used for Flanagan and others, i'm certain that every coach who is available to come would love to come here. Because they all know that the WT is growing and the future looks exciting, Madge is capable, passionate and very dedicated to the club so he deserves another year with Sheens, and the only journalist i would trust is the one who is truly a WT supporter, just like our @MAGPIES1963 is. 😀

Brad Arthur survived a wooden spoon year with a much better roster than ours and and a frustrated supporter base but it also meant moving on the players that were not geling.

Brad Arthur was given 5 seasons to fix it.

But Arthur’s teams looked like they were being coached , the fact remains after 3 seasons there still is no defensive structure this is not the lack of quality players this is the lack of coaching ability by the coach and the assistants he has employed .
We really need to look at the realities of the situation after 3 seasons he graph has gone one way ⬇️.

Mate that's pure baloney wrt Brad Arthur.

Eels went 10th, 12th, 14th in the first 3 seasons under Brad Arthur. Technically it's 1 slot worse per season than Tigers under Madge, but exactly the same negative progression. You can make all the excuses in the world for Brad Arthur, about inheriting a bad side, mismanagement, previous bad performances, coaches tapping out early etc. - and 95% of those arguments would also apply to Madge coming in at Tigers.

4th season under Arthur they made the finals (4th), 5th season under Arthur they fell apart and got the wooden spoon. Parramatta kept the faith. But you can't ignore it's 3 consecutively worse results and a wooden spoon in the 5th year in charge.

Now they are 3 consecutive finals appearances.

Honestly I really hate these posts.

If you're going to state something on a public forum, you may as well say EVERYTHING that was said.

Regardless if Matterson left for less or not, I believe that he is a self entitled kid that numerous clubs are noticing, his time will come and he will be without a NRL contract working as a Personal Trainer at the local gym.

Good news everyone, I have obtained the transcript of the senior-level feedback from the club review.

Madge: "Eff boys, effing eff boys, eff! I believe in you boys, be the player you want to play with, eff! Where are the effing men, the ebbs and flows men, eff?"

Brooks: "Yeah nah, like, take control and stuff, yeah, make it your team. You know, like, it's the halfback's job."

Luch: "He heheh yeah nah man, hee bro, hee hee, but nah yeah seriously, Madge is a good guy, he made me an 80 minute player...hee hee oh yeah, well at least 60 minute player, hey?"

Twal: "Aye bro aye, what's up bro, eh? Nah fully leh, we need to try harder, eh? Come up with sumfink new."

Tamou: "Ets tremeendous bro; Mudge uz an eeexcellunt coach, cuz. Sweet az bro."

Pascoe: "Well, quack quack, this organisation demands success, with respect to on-field and off-field, quack quack, and you should see the new pond we are constructing out the back here: state-of-the-art, quack. State-of-the-art community-focus ponding, quack quack, that's one of the pillars of what this organisation stands for. We have tremendous feedback from all stakeholders within the organisation. We aim to be like the Man United of ponds, bigger than any ponds in Penrith."
