Sure glad we are sticking with a coach who is SO BAD tactically that the excuse being trotted out is the he needs high quality assistants next to him

If the tactics aren't his fault, and he can't keep the players happy what exactly does he offer? Halftime speeches that none of the players listen to?

Do you think the players would of lied about how they felt about him?

Yes to save their job

This review is taking as long as Australian post at the moment.

Apparently it’s finished, Madge looks like staying. We’ll hear more on Wednesday.

What’s the significance of Wednesday?

48hrs?

Can anyone point out anything that Madge has started that can't be built upon by a new coach next year? To me it's not as if changing coaches will delay us by months or years, it will make no difference. We're basically starting off preseason with a clean slate regardless.

We have to change our assistants and tactics. Change our attacking and defensive game plans. Punt as many players as we can, attract stronger players and try retain as many of our promising juniors as possible.

It's not as if we're halfway through a game changing master plan. Everything we've done has failed, we need to blow things up and start again regardless of who will be coaching. So now it becomes who is the best person to shape our future?

I was a Madge supporter until about halfway through this season when it became clear that he could not or would not adjust our game plans, and that he couldn't motivate our players to even try their best. He now seems incredibly one dimensional, just an old man that yells a lot. Where's the subtleties? Where's the tactical genius? Where's the ability to have players run through walls for you and to create a vision that others want to be a part of? He's a nice guy that cares about the future of this club but in today's game i don't think he's suitable to be a head coach anymore.

Agree with almost everything you say, except changing coaches will make a LOT of difference in several ways
-a new coach will possibly motivate what is currently a disengaged playing group
-a new coach will have some attraction to new recruits where we currently have zero appeal
-a new coach provides new hopw for supporters...new tactics, new systems, new processes..without which were doomed for the spoon

WTDS Wests Tigers Delusion Syndrome.
Accept the playing group is not a finals roster is the only treatment for this. A new coach will get us into the exact same position.

Exactly, most of these players would be in reserve grade elsewhere but if madge is retained they play regular 1st grade as Madge can't sign one decent player.

Certainly not against Pascoe moving on(same result etc) but if we think sacking him will do anything for 2022 is laughable.

So what’s the point of sacking him then?
If sacking fixes nothing I don’t get the point

Cause you want to change the next 5 years not the next year. Need to look for coach or players

I still think our bigger issue is weak minded individuals in the team. Much harder to fix though.

Weak minded or largely fractured and disgruntled because non performing players on massive salaries weren’t contributing?

If that’s the case we’ve got even bigger issues than we think. If any of our players aren’t putting in because someone’s earning more than them and they don’t think they should be then pack ya bags son, that kind of crap will do more damage than any coach.

Most of those highly paid under performing players have moved on now so if there’s fractures due to that issue they should be resolved.

Every club has players who earn more than guys beside them and it’s not always representative of output or form. They need to grow up a bit. It’s like a child crying because their sibling got more ice cream than they did.

No other club has butchered marquee money like we did.

Disagree. Probably more than half the clubs have messed up in periods. It’s just they get out of it quicker than we have.

Name me a club has paid players as bad a Packer , Mbye and Reynolds between 700-900K for four years at the same time.

I have to agree that Madge hasn't achieved the results we all wanted. However, he has been dealing with a Ivan Cleary squad that was , with all due respect to those players, rubbish buys. Give him one more year as he has built this squad, & if he fails next year there are no excuses. Jason Taylor screwed the culture of our club.. We had golden years in front of us with, Brooks, Moses, Woods, Tedesco etc but Taylor ,showed with his disrespect of Robbie Farah ,that you can be a great & loyal player but it means little at the West Tigers. It imprinted on our young great players there is no loyalty so they simply started to look after themselves, find the best money & chase it. Who can blame them?
We are now back where that Jack ass Taylor inherited the club. We have exceptional juniors coming through. We now need to let Madge & the wonderful Tim Sheens re build the winning culture in this club , show the new wave of players that West Tigers regard there own breed as valuable and we can all ride the wave for the next ten years!

How would you possibly know what the game plan is when there is zero direction on the field? Instead of trying to figure out Maguire perhaps start listening to all the players who know something about the game who have all consistently identified our weakneses - no leadership on the field. Maguire is as good as gone but the biggest problem still exists and what we need doesn't want a bar of us.

Of course we need stronger players, as i said, but Madge has had 3 years and shown zero capability to define a strategy that his players can successfully execute. That to me suggests he's not the man to define our next few years.

If the players are weak how do you expect them to successfully execute. They’re just not up to it. The Mbye, Packer, Reynolds, BJ money should now allow us to sign a few guys who can execute. Hopefully ones with the winning mentality.

Review has been completed & will be presented to the board by Wednesday. Madge appears to have survived the cut, not so much his assistants. The support staff will not be in Madge's complete control but more or less club appointed, with the review under lining that they are well past the current game.
Player support was high & will be a major supporting factoring in Madge staying.

Thanks Pom. Sanity prevails.

any word on the future of Adam Hartigan?

He will still be there, but a restructure on recruitment process has also been requested/suggested. Sheens will take a role in this not just junior recruitment.

Amen.

NOt sure how I feel about Madge being safe TBH. I really like him as a bloke and have long been a supporter, but it does get to a point where you wonder where the improvement is coming from. Also wonder how its going to improve recruitment.

I was probably hoping for a change of coach but having said that it would depend a hell of a lot on who the replacement was. Would prefer Madge over Flanno, Morris, Green. Would prefer Ciraldo or Bennet over Madge.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Madge’s delivery style isn’t brought up as part of the review / retention meeting. I mean I know I would request him to review his approach if he wanted to stay in the job.

I’m sure he’d be much calmer if the guys could play

I know Eastwood was playing reggies on big money. If they also had Hodko and Williams on 700 plus then it’s a fair comparison. Two wrongs don’t make a right though.

Williams was definitely close to that amount. They signed him from Manly when he was a monster. Hodkinson might not have been on crazy money but he definitely wasn’t cheap.

We’re not the only club to butcher the cap but the length of contracts was the massive problem.

Hodko also won an origin series against that QLD team so he wasn’t a complete dud.

Another Michael Chammas report on 9. He’s got an unhealthy obsession with us.

Nothing much in it apart from Cameron Ciraldo supposedly being an option but refusing to talk to us while Penrith are in the finals.

Even the newsreader suggested it was all “pretty thin”.
