Madges Presser

In Madges Presser he says all the right things and is honest but at the end of the day, he has not got this team firing. Half of the players do not compete in defence and are lazy players in the 1% plays. They seem happy just to turn up do the minimum and get paid. The team has little unity or cohesion in defence or attack with Nofoaluma still unable to number up year after year for example.Brooks still looks lost although he can tackle. I think the only answer is to get a new coach. Get Bennett or Flanagan as sadly Madge has had little effect and the culture of the place is going downhill.

Don't listen anymore 🙂

He’s completely run out of ideas. We’ve had the same issues since he came on board and he’s been unable to fix them in over two seasons. If he hasn’t fixed it now, he never will. He’s done.

I agree with your summation. I don’t think any coach could get this group of players to compete each week. Years and years of poor recruitment and retention is plain for all to see.

Nah sticking with the coach sack the players.

He came across genuinely frustrated and disappointed tonight, and rightly so. I don't know how he fixes it though. Some players definitely need to be dropped after tonight.

The lack of defensive resolve is the thing that does my head in. If the players used their shoulders, numbered up and hit hard, we wouldn't be in this position. The coaching staff definitely need to have the microscope put over them too in this regard.

There's no easy answers...

I can’t believe people are still listening to him
“We’ve got to do better”
“It’s not who Wests Tigers are”
Same rubbish every time

I often think his press conferences sound like he took over as coach two or three weeks ago. If Trent Barrett or Anthony Griffin said 'that's not who we are' and 'that's not what were building towards' then fair enough. Hard to say that after 2 and a half years.

The way we play in games is exactly who we are. Fans have come to accept that. I use to be devastated after a loss. Especially a game at home. Now I just turn up to games knowing exactly what to expect. No one in the grandstand tonight was shocked or surprised when the Titans scored three tries off three straight sets in that first half. It was just business as usual.

This has been happening for years. Sheens, Potter, Taylor and Cleary all had the same issues. A new coach would only buy one year max before the same issues arose again.

The issue is obviously known within the club and is something we will never know unless it gets leaked. I think that rumour of players going directly to the CEO on Mad Monday to complain about Madge may be a hint. It has something to do with the player culture.

So you’re saying we should keep doing what we’ve been doing for the last 10 years in the hope that we’ll achieve success?

I’m not convinced a new coach fixes things to be honest. It’s a half transformed club. Sacking him now does nothing. It will be 90% his team next year and that’s his used by date if he doesn’t get results. I’m frustrated too but booting another coach just adds to the narrative that the joint is a coaching graveyard.

Unless we somehow snagged Craig Bellamy, a coach change alone won't solve this. I think the coaching staff need to be looked at though, whoever coaches the attack is struggling, and likewise defence.

Why do you think Madge will be able to fix these issues now, when he’s been unable to in more than 2 years? There’s not even signs of improvement - we’re getting worse.

Agreed the defending continues to be awful. The treacherous one has been the only person to get that firing. The personnel doesn’t help, David Nofoaluma can’t read a Golden Book...

i actually liked the presser, he stopped defending the team and didnt give the same old blah as normal, but it will mean nothing if there are no changes for next week

Yep, I wish I could fast forward 2-3 years and get some of the Flegg outside backs into FG.

There’s enough talent in that team and state cup to form the nucleus of a really good team. Dillon looks a real talent. Israel Ogden looks promising, Pole has huge potential. And there are others still.

Change is fine if it makes things better. Cini had a good debut band then turned into that Gridiron guy Newcastle gave a game in his second outing. Does he give Hoffman another go? Fitzgibbon is improving but not there yet. Madden is an option but a risk. Simpkin and Blore are candidates I guess.
