Magpie Power Banner - Where is it?

What about 4-4 at the SCG against Souths 1987? Pissing rain. Or 1989 against a star studded Raiders outfit. Upset of the year. Schofield and Hanley went off.
The Pies first game against Parra at Orana. 32-16\. MOM Ian Naden.

Lets keep this thread going eh fellas??

So funny to remember the total reverence we held the 'Wok' (Warren Ryan) in, when he arrived to the Sunday games at Orana via helicopter… I guess with wins as rare as they were for some years, little things like that made going to the footy a real highlight...

Knuckles... you are dead right about that game against St Choke... I can remember that last minute was a very loooooong minute, especially with the clock stopped at the 5 minutes to go mark. If I recall correctly, that last conversion was one almighty toe poke which still made it to the bike track.

One thing I really do miss... 'All 3 grades'... a real day at the footy... Get there at 11am, stake our claim of grass, spread the flags out... then the 23's, Reserves, 1st Grade... and finally, win, lose or draw, get on that ground and have our own game of touch footy. Now you almost get arrested for thinking about touching the playing surface.

Im originally a Balmain fan, but I really enjoyed you guys reminiscing about years gone by, when your team is struggling every win is like a grand final.
For us Balmain fans the 90's were our dark years, and I cant remember who said it, but every week you turn up just in case, you dont want to not be there to see a very rare win. In 96 I went to about 17 games but never saw us win!

keep the memories coming

And some of the funny stories

Don't know if this one was true or not

Big Kyle White supposedly got dropped by Wok for farting in a team meeting \video session and not excusing himself

Can you imagine the injury reports

Kyle White 1 week Flatulence

An old maggies mate of mine told me about this discussion thread and so I thought I would have a look. I'm glad I did. Brings back alot of great memories from Lidcombe and Orana days. Our banner was "Black and Deadly" and a good mate of mine was "Magpie Mania". Loved that "Black and Deadly" banner. Unfortunately it's long lost now.

I loved that Black and Deadly banner too … it always looked good.

One competition we always did well in was the midweek National Panasonic Cup. Do you remember the night we played Penrith (at Leichhardt) with the likes of Alexander and Izzard in the team and we knocked them off ? Bruiser Clarke scored the match winning try and took half the Penrith team over the line with him ! I think that night it was a double header with Wests and Penrith first and then Balmain v Combined Brisbane after that ... With the exception of the Panthers fans, the whole crowd (which was quite big by the end of our match) were cheering on the Mighty Maggie's ... Geez that put a tingle up the spine !

I remember that game. Also remember the post game celebration in the sheds. Bruiser put some massive dents in those lockers.

Oh how i miss them days….

found a pic of dad, with his 1st ever magpie power sign thought i would share it, was taken at home just before we left to go to the game

How good is that …. How old were you 3d when you started going to the footy ?
You must have been about 7 or 8 when I noticed you and Dad at the footy which would have been around 1987.

Was Dad wearing shorts in the photo ?!?! He seemed to like wearing shorts to the footy !

Black & Deadly!!!!

I remember you guys joining us in the 90's. With you guys arriving it would be safe to say we had the largest flag contingent at the time. The Norths fans also had heaps though.

3 Down.. Did you use to wear glasses? Because I always thought the kid Shoey brought was his nephew?? I swear he told me that??

Rohan.. Remember your fight at Orana being called live on the radio???

Lets go through the names of everyone on the hill….

Campbelltown.... Me, Rohan, Forrest, Dawson, Rosey, Spiro, Rucker, Duck, Dave, The Twins, Theo, Dave, Shoey & his son, Joe, Paul (Bald Pig)

yes i wore glasses there every week with him, not sure how he got to telling ppl i was his nephew

Did anyone go to Parramatta stadium for the playoff for fifth against Canterbury ? I think we won 19-18 when Jason Taylor kicked the winning field goal that Terry Lamb claimed was touched in flight. We went on to play Canberra the next Saturday and did us all proud.

Yep 1991\. We were there on that hill behind the posts (Black and Deadly crew). Magpie Power was there too. Great Symonds try in the corner from a taylor grubber. Cement scored one too.
That was a tough assignment to back up against that star-studded Raiders side after that goliath of a game mid week against the dogs. But agree they did us proud against canberra. That midweek playoff system was so penal for the successful team having to back up a few days later.

I think we led them 8-0 early before going down 22-8 in a really gutsy performance.
That play off for fifth match, most of the attempts at goal were from the sideline. Jason Taylor and Jonathon Davies both putting on a great kicking display in that match. Although I think Taylor's last one from the touch line hit the post hence the need for a field goal.
Geez that's over 20 years ago now hey … Amazing !

Didn't go but remember it well Had either a stomach bug or food poisoning that afternoon and was living in Brisbane at the time

Trying to pick up a radio station that I could barely hear between technicolour yawns with a bucket sitting with me at the end of the bed

I'll bet the result made you feel better Happy !!!
Isn't it funny when you're a long way away and you are trying to pick up a faint broadcast of the match. Eventually when you find the frequency it keeps tuning in and out … Geez that's annoying. That's in the days before Internet of course !
