WESTERN SUBURBS MAGPIES
News Release 24 January 2012

Meetings of the Board of Wests Ashfield Leagues Club and the new Board of Western Suburbs Football Club have breathed new life into the Magpies to ensure the team will compete in the 2012 State Cup and provide a springboard for junior players to aim for the highest levels of Rugby League.

The Board of Wests Ashfield last week agreed to restore funding to the Magpies, and that further funds would be available in future years, subject to the outcome of governance matters relating to the football club.

These were resolved at the Magpies meeting on Tuesday January 24 with the election of former player Mick Liubinskas as Chairman.
The new administration is committed to developing a plan to ensure the Magpies will continue to look after their district at all levels.

Wests Ashfield Leagues Club will remain the primary source of funding for the Magpies, but the level of funds provided as always will depend on future developments relating to the club industry which is under considerable pressure from various outside forces.

Talks will continue between the Leagues Club, the Magpies and Wests Tigers regarding the possibility of uniting the State Cup teams of foundation clubs Wests and Balmain beyond 2012.

Discussions will be expanded to include Wests Campbelltown Leagues and the wider Wests community and will consider the views of all.

No decision on the likely operations of any of the shareholders in Wests Tigers has yet been made, but the Magpies have taken the lead in being prepared to discuss the future and want to listen to the concerns of their members.

The new Magpies Board believes that a strengthened link with Wests Tigers will satisfy Sydney’s growing south-western region’s appetite to compete in Rugby League at all levels and any new opportunities that might emerge, while providing football withconnections proudly dating back to the launch of the game in 1908.

The Board will continue to support and promote the unequalled treasure house of history and tradition that has enabled Wests to survive various carve-ups and relocations to become an important contributor to success in the NRL through The Magpies and Wests Tigers.

Under the Chairmanship of Mick Liubinskas, the Magpies will keep warbling throughout their second century.

Ok, so what happens to the Magpies now? Will they be the sole team for the Wests Tigers in the State Cup comp now?

Good News!!
So now that the Tigers are smashing the south west schools in the coming month
and the Maggies look like they're here to stay…
What will be the focus of the Rally?

So does this mean that the hopeless self serving twit that is Mr Dillon is gone from the Magpies?

Nice piece… Nothing new out of that other than they are trying to smooth things over and show they are on a unified approach.

I'd say its all lip service for the Rally Organisors!

Masters used very similar wording in his article yesterday:

_Whatever the outcome, there is a growing confidence that Wests will continue to survive the carve-ups, the relocations, the joint venture and the protests.\

Whenever I hear Magpies are doing this or that, I think to myself…''which one"?
Ashfield??
Cambo??
Wests RLFC??
Too many fingers from blazered sleeves in too many pies....I was initially surprised Liubinskas had seemingly switched allegiances so to speak....but this looks promising and hopefully some resolution can be achieved....

Maybe Ive got it all wrong, Im very confused in all of this.

The Magpies and Macarthur need to get on board with Wests Tigers...im sure most of Macarthur are happy to, dunno about the Magpies but Wests Tigers are too big and succesful now to be wanting to go against them, work with them and it can be fruitful.
Liubinskas is a great club man....he's a great bloke....he has a unique piece of RL history and hopefully things can work out.

His nomination for Chairperson was a result of 60 odd past players gathering and putting him forward.

If ex players are getting behind Wests Tigers, why are the administrators of the Football club struggling to do so? Is it a case that Western Suburbs don't know their own value or dare I say it, power, in the JV because they are busy fighting battles from yesteryear?

Magpies admin has been an amateur shambles for 40 bloody years….theyre like those people that just cannot live simply and peacefully, they need drama in their life daily

Wests two Leagues Clubs, like many clubs, are living day to day on a precipis that pending new legislation on smoking and poker machines may have a major ramification on their operating life.

A lot of this has to do with keeping the main vehicles (ie the two Leagues clubs) financially viable within themselves first and foremost.

Wests Forever - Forever Wests
