Maguire lifts lid on player power at Tigers

So what is our pass mark for this year?

For me, it’s making the top 8.

All the words have been said, all the money spent, no more excuses.

Finals at an absolute minimum.

I think it's also about how we make the 8. If we're just toiling away at that 8-10 sort of spot throughout the year and then just stumble into the finals I still see that as a fail.

If we have a consistent year and spend majority of it sitting inside the 8 then I see that as real proof our club will be future contenders.

Understand your point, but I will take getting in the 8 this year by however it comes, it’s been too long?

As a WT supporter we expect top 8 this year but plenty still have the tigers picked close to the spoon. Let’s hope we do finish in the top half of the ladder...

Going off just team lists ....
We can beat Sharks,Knights,Titans,Cowboys,Dragons,Manly,Eels,Bulldogs,Warriors,Broncos.Warriors and Titans might be tougher than I’m giving them credit for,Also wouldn’t be surprised if the Broncs improve a bit.We almost beat the Bunnies and Raiders in the 2020 season so hopefully we can compete with them and maybe cause an upset.
Maybe I’m being ridiculously optimistic 😂 we will know in about 2 months how we are looking for the 8 🔥 🐯🐅

Oh we'll make the 8 alright. I honestly believe we can challenge for the premiership this year if some of our newer signings live up to their potential.

Much will depend on injuries(as always) but i agree this could well be our best season in many years

I dig the Enthusiasm.

I still think we are a 8-10th placed squad as is.

But what we have is the foundations of a squad and a club culture that is very Melbourne Storm-esk. This is that **we are all hard workers, disciplined and do our jobs to the best of our abilities**.

There is no coincidence that this mantra that both Madge and Bellamy share has resulted in one club being **consistently turning players into much better versions** of them selves and subsequently challenging for title honours each year .

We need a few extra wins in 2021 to legitimise the squad and to remind the world how great the Wests tigers should be and will be.

I've never doubted Maguire's ability to get the job done, but we've certainly got some players who just don't perform consistently out on the field, and a lack of a real forwards leader who sets the tone for the rest of the pack to follow is crucial in my eyes.

Biggest stat that let us down last year is making metres up the middle, and defending through the middle - they say defence is an attitude and I reckon they're right. Teams like Melbourne, Roosters, Panthers smell blood when they've got a team rolling backwards and they don't let up - we need to follow suit.

It's going to be interesting to see this season unfold because physically I don't think I've ever seen the WT look as good as they do now. We've got size, got some speed but have we got the right attitude? That's the question we need answered...

I honestly think that now some of Ivans purchases have left and Benji has moved to another club,we are now seeing the vision that Madge first signed up for...
A culture change heading in the right direction,a squad mixed with great experience and youth, speed in the backline, hard work and discipline...
Some of these traits have been lacking in recent years and we are now starting to look like the club most of us for many years had hoped the merger would look like, not just the one great premiership win 2005 and then poor management, coaching, players for the next decade...
we are heading for greatness once again with Madge and co guiding this ship.....

Interesting article.

Some of it seems to be designed to explain what he didn't like about Benji Marshall and how those traits led to benji getting in the heads of other players.

Other parts of the article like others have mentioned may make a lot of sense in the days and weeks to come when the next negative news story breaks.

Personally I hope it is Mybe being pushed out.

I wonder too if he discussed with the club how much difficulty he was having with the job? The club have noticeably decided to invest a lot more in the football operations in the past 12 months.

Good point, although I would assume it would have formed part of his negotiations with the club before re-singing.

Madge is not only asking the questions, he’s also answering them. 😝
Looks like we got ourselves a coach people!
I wonder who on the board asked Madge if he had the stomach for it? In my mind that is significant, and evidence of the organisations cultural shift. Certainly those who came before Madge and after Sheens didn’t have the stomach for it.

Actually its very rare I give Jason Taylor credit, but I think he did have the stomach for it. He seemed a tough character and would have stuck it out. Trouble is he just doesnt have the ability

Yeah, JT struck me as being a shrewd operator.
The Farah ousting would've been messy but whether we agreed or not, he did stick to his guns on that one. It almost seemed like the the club used him for that specific purpose then turfed him not long after.

I agree but dont get me wrong, I hated JT as a coach and dont like him much as a bloke, but he certainly has the courage of his convictions. It feels like to me that he and the club had a plan to rebuild that would have taken a lot of early pain (possibly along the lines of Madges current rebuild) but the club reached the decision that JT wasnt the man to finish it off.

Agree. Like they utilised that particular part of his character to achieve a specific goal then cut him loose in favour of someone they thought could handle the next step.

You are giving the board far too much credit to have come up with a plan like that.I doubt anyone of them would come up with a plan by Baldric let alone Machieavelli(spelling probably wrong).

I agree, whilst we have come along way as a club this off season there are still a lot of good teams out there.
