Maguire Signs Until End of 2023

Probably wait until mid year but sounds good to me. You need a coach at a club Long term so they can build the club they want it’s a long process and Madge has done everything right so far.

Would be good to have a coach stick around a while for the first time in forever.

What did someone just quote about boards and the non expertise of some that sit on them ... Please let’s see if Madge does have the goods before another contract ... our Chairman needs to put it back in his pants ! Patience....

We are rebuilding from Clearys mess after a long period of destabilisation. Balmain fell over and we lost all our good juniors. Madge is the best coach we can attract whether we make the finals this year or not he’s a positive for the club and one of few that can build it properly. It’s a no brainer extend him during the year as it will help longer term recruitment and retention.

They’re not doing it right now. They’ll wait for during the season to do it.

No issues with it. Club needs stability. Would like to see him finish his rebuild. So far it's looking good.

GET IT DONE
STABILITY is something this club has lacked with Maguire extended existing players and any potential new players will know where they stand

AGREE. The last thing we need is another rebuild. He sounds like a harder style coach which is what WTs need. I can't see any other coaches who id want. Bellamy is probably the only other I'd consider, but I think he was propped up by some gun players over the years. Hell Maninga looked like a genius with similar players.

Am I setting the bar too low by hoping that we can have one top 8 finish by 2024?

and as everyone said, i don't want another re-build. probably just accept mediocrity and hope for the best. i'd rather support the same losing 17 than to support a changing losing 17

No one can see the future,we have to live in the present and get the job done that Madge is working toward and that is a competitive team that will deliver a premiership..Madge gets my overwhelming support because he has come in and let all and sundry know he means business, even if the going gets tough for some.Madge has shown his no nonsense approach to coaching, recruitment and fairness to younger NRL contenders..
I hope they do extemd him because from what Im seeing he has worked hard ever since he came to us and not just for himself or the squad, but the whole club in general..
I hope he does take us to the finals and GF,it would be just reward for hard work, honesty and integrity from a decent man and coach..

Yep, assess the first 8-10 rounds, and if all is going well I would extend.

We need a bit of coaching stability too. I feel that despite Marsters, Farah, Matterson and Matulino all going Madge has improved the roster by better rounding it out and creating competition for spots.

2021 should be another year of improvement in the roster as well with a couple of players on a decent chunk of coin likely to be moving on and the arrival of Stef from Parra.

Many of the members on this forum were on suicide watch at the 1st of November when Matterson was moved on without a real view on how the roster was going to be filled out.

Come the 1st of March we've signed some good quality recruits and safeguarded our halves (Doueihi's future is in the halves IMO,) and we still may be able to address the one position of concern which is hooker if Grant manages to get a release from Melbourne.

Yes because as well as being a good coach (imo) it will bring stability to our club and any prospective players will be aware of who will be coaching them for the next 3-4 years

Yes, I think so, our whingers aren’t jumping high enough. 😂

I vote yes ..... we need him for stability and to continue on the path to success.

Correct momo , we desperately need continuity. It’s no fun for anyone to keep starting from scratch. As an organisation we have not realised this fundamental principle. You just cannot build something by periodically pulling it apart and restarting the process.

After so many hears of being stuck with bog average coaches it looks like the gun shy runs deep around here

You cant be scared in business, he is one of the best around. Just do it already.

If we are near the bottom of the ladder mid year there will be screams for a new coach. This is still far from Madges team and there are still quite a few bad contracts we have on our books.

Next year seems to me to be the best time to review. Next year Madge will bring in more of ‘his’ players.

Stability, eh ??!!
About time, I'd say.
It's a big YES too from me for assurance, security, solidity and future-proofing!

yes because everyone at the club needs stability and no greater point of vision than our head coach.

Lets him know the club back him, lets the players know who's in charge and it lets any future incoming players know exactly what our philosophy is...

Odd timing this article..I don't see Maguire the type to cut and run like the previous flog..still has 2 years to run..can't also see another Club that looks as attractive as what he can achieve here that doesn't have their coach locked in that would want to poach Maguire maybe Storm post Bellyache...

Anyway I wouldn't be extending now ...Mid season or end of this year even different story ..dependant on on field performance....just as changing coaches like undies is not a good strategy..locking one in long term before it's due isn't either..
