Maguire Signs Until End of 2023

yes because everyone at the club needs stability and no greater point of vision than our head coach.

Lets him know the club back him, lets the players know who's in charge and it lets any future incoming players know exactly what our philosophy is...

You’re saying he wouldn’t know atm that this is his team and he has total control?

considering our previous track record with coaches and how we've treated some of our players???

What previous record? Which players and coaches are you referring to?

Odd timing this article..I don't see Maguire the type to cut and run like the previous flog..still has 2 years to run..can't also see another Club that looks as attractive as what he can achieve here that doesn't have their coach locked in that would want to poach Maguire maybe Storm post Bellyache...

Anyway I wouldn't be extending now ...Mid season or end of this year even different story ..dependant on on field performance....just as changing coaches like undies is not a good strategy..locking one in long term before it's due isn't either..

Excellent post.

Can’t disagree with that Geo. I don’t know what is in his contract? Maybe he’s on 12 monthly performance reviews? I would have thought 6 monthly a better option. Halfway through the season and at the end.
You’re right though, does seem odd? Maybe there’s some negative chatter? Or maybe they don’t have performance appraisals for the head coach?

Am I setting the bar too low by hoping that we can have one top 8 finish by 2024?

and as everyone said, i don't want another re-build. probably just accept mediocrity and hope for the best. i'd rather support the same losing 17 than to support a changing losing 17

We will be back to back premiers by 2024
going for the the repeat 2025

So what you’re saying is there’s no formal performance review where goals are matched with results, other than the daily general activity review?

Winning and Losing determines a coach success Win all is good continually losing look in the positions vacant column

Lock him in for sure. He’s a proven winner. He will drive the culture change we need. Players don’t like his stance - move the players on. He needs to be the constant over next 5+ Years .

Are you saying you don't change your undies Geo
We will have to start calling you CRUSTY

He is exactly what this side needs long term - knows the culture and discipline required to be winners. Has the smarts and will to succeed. Lock him in!

Based on winning percentage alone heh?
That’s funny mate. ?
Is this based on a certain number of games?
Ha ha, so you’re saying Hagipantelis has seen the 45% win rate of this new coach and in his excitement is trying to extend his contract by another 3 years?
I don’t think you give the Hagipantelis enough credit?

Then in the next 2 Years if we don't make the finals bare minimum...you would be looking to sack another Coach..that would be another 3 years of failure on the field..the merry Go round begins again...

Maguire is locked in for 2 more Years...lets see how that goes...sure if performance's are high lock him in for longer...as if they are why would he want to leave....?

I don’t know much about Madge really, but he does appear to be someone who highly values goal setting. Sets goals for himself and once achieved, moves on to the next big challenge?
I imagine Hagipantelis would have asked him some questions relating to Madge’s time horizons?

There’s definitely a lot of PTSD left over from when Cleary left. So many tied their flags to his mast and went in whole hog, there”s going to be feelings of history repeating. Kind of like fearing falling for another woman after you last girlfriend left you for someone else. To further that analogy, re-signing him now is like being a guy in said situation and proposing to a girl you feel you’re in love with before you fully get to know her. This team is still getting to know Madge. What we’re finding out looks pretty good, but he still needs at least half a season. Signing him after 6-8 weeks if we get off to a fast start would still be premature given how well we’ve started the last couple seasons, especially 18. Just relax, let the season play out, and let’s talk about it come round 15-20. Which i’m sure the club will do anyway.

Don’t fall into that trap. Don’t start convincing yourself that you know who he is. Everyone thought Cleary walked on water. Madge might be those things, but if there”s anything Cleary taught us, it’s keep these guys at arms length attachment wise and don’t let your heart rule your head. Cos the reality is you just don’t know what’s around the corner. Who would have thought Matterson did what he did.
