I don’t know much about Madge really, but he does appear to be someone who highly values goal setting. Sets goals for himself and once achieved, moves on to the next big challenge?
I imagine Hagipantelis would have asked him some questions relating to Madge’s time horizons?

Don’t fall into that trap. Don’t start convincing yourself that you know who he is. Everyone thought Cleary walked on water. Madge might be those things, but if there”s anything Cleary taught us, it’s keep these guys at arms length attachment wise and don’t let your heart rule your head. Cos the reality is you just don’t know what’s around the corner. Who would have thought Matterson did what he did.

Sounds like a song coming on? We’re caught in a trap , we can’t walk out, because we love him too much maybe?
Ha ha!
Hagipantelis has got plenty of skin in the game to not be making knee jerk decisions, but as I’ve already posted.. I don’t know why we are extending Madge at this time? There’s a real need for Hagipantelis to explain this imo.

Explain what? Has he said anything about extending him, or has anyone from the club? From what i’ve read it’s a few supporters in an echo chamber.

Lock him in for sure. He’s a proven winner. He will drive the culture change we need. Players don’t like his stance - move the players on. He needs to be the constant over next 5+ Years .

Then in the next 2 Years if we don't make the finals bare minimum...you would be looking to sack another Coach..that would be another 3 years of failure on the field..the merry Go round begins again...

Maguire is locked in for 2 more Years...lets see how that goes...sure if performance's are high lock him in for longer...as if they are why would he want to leave....?

Your reasoning makes perfect sense. I just think we need to have a constant and due to his history of success, work ethic and ability to get an average squad to compete, Maguire should be that constant. I believe the board and CEO should say we believe in Maguire’s ability to enact our vision and believe he can take us to wear we want to go. If this is the case they ensure they buy players that buy in and adhere to his methodology. If we are not successful over next 2 seasons I’m not sure that will be because of the coach. In today’s game the coach is always the scapegoat.

The guy has already won a premiership. It shouldn't be taken lightly

This ain't no muppet and this ain't no supposed next big thing. Completely different and proven coach unlike the last two.

If we don't have him signed and they announce a new Brisbane team the Storm might suddenly need a new coach.

Or if the broncos struggle under Seibold we may also not look as attractive to him.

Wait till mid year if we have to but I wouldn't wait much longer.

So was Cleary

So contracts mean nothing is what you’re saying? Yet you’re keen signing him to another one ?

I like him a lot but don’t think we need to lock him in for another 3 years. One extra year at the moment I’d be happy with which sees him to the end of 2022. Can always add more years on top of that. Don’t think we need to be thinking of 2023 and beyond just yet

Yes and yes
If he really wants to go then we know what happens there
On the other hand if he wants to stay then start planting the seed of an extension
Who knows what goes on behind closed doors
Madge is here Now
He is having a clean out and getting rid of the mess that some other bozo put us in
I would want Madge here for at least 12 months after Packer, McQueen and Reynolds are gone.
I think it's only fair to let Madge have the full cap at his disposal to buy the right people
It's like complaining to a tradesman about construction before the job is finished
You have to let the tradesman finish his job 1st and not half way through a botched renovation that someone else started

Gosh, I don’t know? I must be reading too much into these quotes am I?

The Tigers are making moves to re-sign Michael Maguire with the former Rabbitohs premiership winner poised to become the club’s longest-serving coach since Tim Sheens.

The last coach jumped off the bus early but Wests Tigers want their current coach to go the long haul.

Wests Tigers chairman Lee Hagipantelis has revealed his plan to extend the contract of coach Michael Maguire until the end of 2024 with discussions to begin soon.

“I see Michael Maguire as a long-term proposition at this club, absolutely,” Hagipantelis said.

“There are no concerns that would prevent us looking at signing on Michael for an extension. And my assumption is that he would feel the same. He knows there is a job here at Wests Tigers he wants to get it done.

“From my personal perspective, I have no issue whatsoever about Michael Maguire remaining long-term coach at Wests Tigers. A two or three year contract (extension) is usually the sort of period most people look at in terms of coaching.

Completely agree. Madge deserves at least two years with full control of the salary cap, not having to deal with Ivan’s mess. Extend him to the end 2022 now and then you can extend him later on if he does well, but he at least deserves the chance to have a top 30 of only players he wants.

He gets us to the Promised Land he gets an extension ..and he must know that himself

But he has to see out his contract and be given every opportunity to be a success

That is also a load of bull...An elite Coach gets the best out of the players he has at his disposal...Not once has Maguire said he is not happy with the squad of players he has..in fact quite the opposite..every time..

If he wants to stay then what’s the rush? The ball is in the clubs court to see how this season plays out before any knee jerk reactions.

Every coach deserves control of the salary cap. Ask Potter and Taylor if they would have liked that advantage. The cap isn’t perfect, but it’s not terrible and he’s got it much better than some of his predecessors.

? you hear anything in your echo chamber?

These are just the initial moves in considering an extension, which will probably take a long time to negotiate. Also, to make public commeny of the board's confidence in the coach for season 2020.

Also, to get media coverage in what is fast becoming busy season again in the NRL.

Relax guys

No coach is ever going to say he’s unhappy with his squad, but I guarantee he would’ve preferred to come to the club with an open salary cap instead of having to deal with Ivan’s mess. He’s slowly turning it into the team he wants.

Only one coach in history has walked into a job with an entire salary cap to play with and that was Ivan when he signed with us. Having to work with what the last coach left for you is standard stuff.
