If we don't make the 8 next year Madge has to go.
That simple, no excuses

Don't agree as he still has 3 useless players taking up 20% of the cap that **he did not sign**...
if you said 2022 I would tend to agree but considering what he walked into here he is doing an excellent job buying young talent and developing them until money comes available. We have been asking for years for someone with the balls to shake this club up and now we have him and people are not happy..

"We're not here to rebuild, or to ask for time, we're here to perform from day one. That will be my responsibility and the players from the time we get together."

Anthony Griffin

To be fair its only words at this stage and they have had a better roster than us..
At least his big name players are actually on the field and doing something unlike Packer / Reynolds.. I like Hook and think he will do well..

With the team Madge took over I don't think even Belly, Robinson or Bennett would of got us in the 8.. This is Tigers and not Souths so you cannot just ask a players to leave so its frees up salary cap space.. aka Roberts , Inglis, Burgess , etc...

Hunt is on $1.2m and plays off the bench and Norman is worse than Reynolds. He’s also lost Frizell.

Lets just see how he goes than before agreeing :grinning:

There is not many coaches out there that have won the NRL and ESL title and coaches the current NZ team.. You don't get given these titles you have to earn them and Madge has done that and I have full trust in him to bring this club back to where it belongs.
We can all agree that we are not a club that top line players want to come to but when they see what we are building I truly think this will change.

What he’s done in the past means nothing. if we adopt that mentality we’ll be sitting here in 10 years going ‘but he won a premiership’

We will agree to disagree..
All the players Madge has signed so far have turned out pretty well for us considering the low money he has.
LL - Outstanding and made him a 80min player and played every game.
AD - Excellent pick up and only getting better and can cover multi positions
JL - The only one i am a little disappointed with but he just needs more ball to get involved
HG - Loan deal but was outstanding and Madge made it happen
Stef - Big young talent and will be great for us next year
Simpkins - Another top line talent and will grow into out number 9 in a few years
Blore - Another you talent that will only get better with another preseason

You get the point.... He has a great knowledge of the game and picking up young talent and not losing them.
We really have not lost players that we wanted to keep sense he come here..

You left off Robert Jennings.

Also, AD and LL very good. Blore, Simpkins and Stef jury is out. JL so far a total disaster.

Here I thought it was a coaches job to get the best out of players he has at his disposal...

Once a upon time that may have been the case but with the money on offer these days not any more players rule the roost Packer/Reynolds prime examples.

Agree... Look what happens when you drop them these days they have a cry and the media back the players and call the coach out for been too hard on them.. Madge learnt the trade from Belly, and Belly runs the same hard training way and you never see the media beat him up on how he trains them...

Madge is a good coach but he still has some issues, he did not communicate with Benji about contract not being renewed and then Benji/Manager went running to the Media to force the clubs hand and it back fired, at least the decision was made and look how Benji now left the club. (Right call BM is all about his own ego and agenda)

He chopped and changed the side this year looking for combinations some selections we as supporters who watched the games thought why this player and not another????

That's what he gets paid to do but when you analyze the depth you realize what little options we did have at various times.
Loan deal with Grant was a positive and shows that he can develop talent that have the right attitude. (Big Tick)

Walking on eggshells was a few disgruntled players with Non selections he met that head on explained his reasoning (Although leaks occurred) and moved on with the players and made it known he was the boss.

The Media loves to beat up on us and we did move on a number of players but so did numerous other clubs, think of all the negative press we receive compared to other clubs, do you not think there is a hidden agenda to hold us back??

What the club has effectively stated to the playing group we are backing this coach to turn things around and also to any players looking to Sign the Club has a long term coach and plan moving forward, that's a positive move and a negative one is to do nothing, you need to back someone.

Do i think 2021 will be any better - No
Roster still a mess but some signing are positive, BJ not convinced however but he has next year to prove himself and if he does not do you think Madge will persevere (No).

But as a long term supporter i expect results in the extra 2 years given the extension for and that would be playing finals each year. So back the coach stop the whinging and lets all remain positive that the club is finally making some good decisions and back ourselves we will be better for this decision, and forget the outside influences.

Good to also see the Chairman ask for a Pauline Hanson (Please explain) from Freddy about Paps, sounds like the club is finally getting some balls, and for those that don't like it you can go scratch yours.......One at a time please.

I call Bull on the Benji business.

U tell me that Benji Expected an auto renewal based on what...

I have contracted b4 and this ia never ever a given and should have been discussed between manager and club.

BJ already looking a lot fitter going into pre-season. Contract season so motivation peaking.

I’ll wait to see something on the website but happy if it is true. I still believe he is the man for the job but I agree with an earlier post from Geo - I’d like to see us getting better despite the fact he doesn’t have exactly what he wants. We went backwards this year and he needs to address that now, not in 2022.

Noticed he’s been working out looks good. Last year he was on honeymoon and came back to footy really overweight. Stuart dumped him to train with reserves then he moved here so didn’t really get a pre season, hopefully sheds some kilos which helps his defence

Madge making pre season tough is a big motivator for guys to stay fit in the off season, multiple players have told me they make sure to keep fit so they don’t get killed by Madge

Apparently Madge has verbally agreed to 2 year extension until 2023

Where is that information coming from?

Big Sports Breakfast and Telegraph

Thanks but i wouldnt believe DT in any circumstances the other mob i hope is more reliable

BSB is owned by Tabcorp and don’t have journalists (either do the other mob haha) so they read the paper before going on air and run a story.

Laurie Daly though not a journo would have a fair idea what's going on around the traps

Agreed yet they run with a story from the newspaper...

Really pleased with this and I don't care if we're rubbish next year as well, this is a very poor squad and I'm happy with how he's going about improving it. 2022 is the year we need to be good and Madge deserves the opportunity to go for that. By that time, even if he doesn't work out, you can see with the players he's recruiting that the club will be better off for having had him. The exact opposite was true of Cleary, Taylor and Potter. Potter seemed to stuff up the least but I think he had a really unlucky situation. Cleary is by far our worst ever coach. Abandoned us with crap players on massive contracts. Absolutely horrible. Even Terry Lamb wasn't Cleary bad. Madge looks to be building a club, not just putting a team on the park each week.

I would like the Club to continue recruiting young players, similar to Kepaoa, Kei and young Rizk, to improve our team and depth. If we miss out on JAC, the influx of new talent will offset the disappointment of not recruiting JAC.

Does anyone share my concern that in future we again will be the target of the more powerful clubs using WTs as a talent pool? I hope as part of our renewal, the recruitment and retention team are working behind the scenes to come up with strategies to deal with the inevitable approaches.

Something Wayne Bennett said he learned from another great coach. You don't let a player go unless you have someone better to replace them!

On the Coaching Market, Maguire is probably the best coach we can get. We could have traded him for Anthony Griffin, who is a very similar coach. As for other standouts, Laurie Daily would be the only other coach that I rate. At club level he is untested.
