Maitua signed?

We have NOT signed Reni!!! I got a tweet from Grant Mayer confirming this.. We are still looking though for 2014.. Happy Days
 
Not worth it. LIke him like most of us, but another small backrower. We are stuck with the ones we have on contracts, and you want to get another one. Unless he is really dirt cheap, wouldn't bother, but Matt Ryan would be a good pickup, but I think Stuart still wants him, doesn't he?
 
I know lots wont like this as the "source" is twitter but I am hearing it all over as well that we WILL sign Matua

If this is correct hopefully before 30 June….honestly you can,t have enough expieriance and let's face it the more back up the better after this season.

Hearing a bit of chatter tonight there could be an announcement as early as tomorrow, even getting him before June 30\. Take it with a kilo of salt though, wouldn't be the first time we're supposedly within an inch of signing someone with nothing coming of it, and probably won't be the last.
 
I'd sign him for the rest of this season and ONLY the rest of this season. He's a reliable player and with Fulton and Thompson currently out, we could do worse. If it's for 2014 then i'd say that any back rower off contract at WT's at the end of this season will be on his way out. Put simply I don't see a need for him beyond this season. Big waste of money if so.
 
If they could pick him up on the cheap would add great deapth some thing we've lacked. agrre cant have 3 small back rowers, we need someone in the Gareth Ellis mould hard running hard hitting enforcer???? Jason Taumalolo!
 
I've got to say the idea is growing on me, perhaps for this year and next. He is an experienced back rower , plays on the edge, knows how to break the line and a tackle. He is about the same height and weight as whatmough so I'm ok with size. If we had a starting back row of Blair at lock in the centre, maitua on one side and Fulton on the other, with pettybourne and BMM on the bench then we would have straight experienced hard running 2nd rowers and could bring on impact men either side. I don't mind small back rowers as long as they run hard it's not like they all stand next to each other on a field. Maitua could be an ok signing and If we go this way then i am happy especially with all the youngsters in the front row and in the backs we need some experience
 
The thing I take out of our apparent interest in Maitua is it's one of the first recruitment moves made by Mayer and Potter. Obviously they see some sort of value in Reni and something he can add to the team even if the majority of us cannot. At this stage I'm prepared to give Potter the benefit of the doubt and trust his judgement.
