Maitua signed?

Good player but getting on a bit. Doesn't fit our squad imo, would only hold back the likes of Sue. Similar size and frame, but he's no Luke Lewis.

I have a real problem with a bloke that stands down for a game because he's been told he isn't wanted next year. What about your teammates Reni? I wouldn't call it taking a stance but rather having an almighty public sook.

Sounds a likely signing as Parra would be happy to part ways and the Tigers probably feel like they are getting him at a discount.

Good for depth and I hope thats why the Tigers are signing him. I guess he'd offer more than Pettybourne has to date.

I really hope the club does not sign Maitua. We need some size and aggression in the backrow and someone who can break the line. Maitua does not offer this at all and is WELL past his use by date.

Wests Tigers are on a potential crest of a wave with their younger players. I don't believe that Maitua would react too well to playing State Cup. Irrespective of the asking price Maitua would be the one of the worst signings ever made by Wests Tigers..

I've always liked Reni.
People saying he lacks aggression?
Reni spent his suspension time in Thailand training Muay Thai with some of the best guys in the world.
He's a pure athlete, he's an 80 minute player, he has been one of Eels' best in recent time.

HOWEVER, I don't see how he fits in our team.
Likewise wit Halatau, similar players.
Great guys but don't benefit the team over all….

Happy to be proven wrong though.

If he doesn't get signed, good.
If he does, hope he brings his boots.
Not the clubs fault or players fault, everyone wants to better themselves.

I disagree. A 2 year deal I think would be a good deal. He is unlike the rest of our back-rowers. He is dynamic and hits the fringes hard. I think he would enjoy running off Benji and Farah.

Murdoch Masilla is very inconsistent and us closest to him. Eddy plays in the middle. Fulton is a different type of player and so is Anasta and Blair.

I don't know about this ? sign him for the rest of this year , to cover our inexperienced players , then we will do a send of for Tuquiri , Utai and Reni lol…. on a serious note he hasn't been playing all that bad for Parra at the start of the year (remember he is playing in a crap side). But I would like to persist with our young crop and give them as much 1st grade exposure as possible, if it means success in 2 years time at the expense of 2 bad years so be it .

experience for the rest of the year with option for next year in our favour , he has been going well in a crap team with a crap coach

Playing with a bung knee & ankle …...getting injections before every game just to get on the field.
Has a lot of experience .........

we also have anasta, blair and fulton who have a lot of experience.
reni is 98 kg.. fulton- 89, anasta-97, blair-104.

we need backrowers who can penetrate the line. i dont see anything that maitua has that the other three dont tbh.
if he is signed, i dont see what he can bring to the team that the others dont and i would be more than happy to be proved wrong in that regard, if we do sign him.

gee people are talking like we have SIGNED this bloke allready, i dont think there is 1 inch of truth in it. It will be like all others it will past very quickley.

Yeah I've heard nothing to suggest it will happen. However, the talk keeps on keeping on and with sticky's hard line approach he may well get that release right now. I just haven't seen anything to shoot it dead this rumour. Personally I hope it's not true and if it is true then PLEASE only be for the rest of this season.

Old Dart beckons for Maitua
The Tigers are keen on Reni Maitua but it is far from a done deal, with plenty of interest from England. The cashed-up Salford club is leading the way after missing out on Hull Kingston Rovers' Aussie back-rower Cory Paterson. Hull KR were confident they had Paterson before the deal fell through last week - a fact that could play in Maitua's favour as the club is suddenly short of a back-rower

Why can't these clubs be offloading the bigger, bend the line bcak players that we would be interested in, not small backrowers which we have bucket loads of?
