Manly Inclusive Pride jersey backlash

Didn't you see the latest census 2021? Christians make up less than 50% of the country, first time it's ever dropped below half, and it has been in free-fall for decades. Nearly 40% of Australians claim no religion. All other non-Christians combined = 10%.

Yes it’s interesting what I observe in my circles, professionally and local sporting, people who I get to know, contradicts the data.

Went off to uni in Sydney and no lie 2/3ds of my colleagues were doing bible study in their spare time. Ironically: if I’m using the word in the right context, it’s was a science based course.

Perhaps the people who are religious are more extreme or more vocal or both so I notice it more.

As a gay, I don't care if they wear it or decide not to wear it based on their beliefs.
That's fine. People shouldn't be forced to do someone that they fundamentally don't want to... as long as they aren't dicks or actively work against the concept of the jersey...
I wouldn't want to wear a christian/muslim/jewish/labor/liberal/green pride jersey - however I'd support someone who wanted to, and would object to people who objected to them wearing it.

What I find interesting, jokes aside, is everyone seems to be on-board with indigenous round and the All-Stars match, and everyone is cool with Women's round, recognising the impact of women on rugby league.

But some dudes are not cool about the Sea Birds having an "inclusiveness" round focusing on sexual orientation.

So it's only acceptable to recognise some minorities but not others apparently.
Identity politics is a slippery slope

Hypothetically imagine being a closeted gay person in the Manly team and this happens. Or a young gay Manly fan who’s favourite player is one of the ones stepping down.

The players have the right to sit out if they disagree with wearing it. The issue is the club here, they have put this together without looking at and discussing the wider picture and it is now doing more harm than good for the cause they are trying to promote.

Personally, I don’t believe that any of it should be involved in sport in general. We watch sport to get away from the dark side of life. Leave it to whatever, but just leave sport out of it. I grow tired of everything good in life being complicated and turned into some sort of political or “woke” stance. Believe in it or not I really don’t care, just stop ramming it down my throat in things that we all come together on. It just divides everyone, as seen by this thread.

To be honest I've got nothing against anyone but gee can't watch a game of football and just enjoy that without all the politics etc.

Personally, I feel club's should have only 1 outfit and everyone should be included following them.

Should be like a flag.

Same week in week out.

Why cant the people who want to wear it do so and the others not. Oh I forgot the NRL cant even apply the rules within a game correctly, god help if there are a few subtle differences on the jersey of a team. Would probably never call full time and have captain challenges until Xmas.

Imagine how divided the manly squad is? The religious players won’t be going anywhere. This could cruel manly for years.

I know, it gets tiresome. We need escapism in our lives. All these causes infiltrating that escapism weigh you down.

Got to disagree. The more the subject is raised, the more society moves in a positive direction and separates more reasonable wheat from the chaff.

To really bring politics into it. The thankfully ever lessening remaining of chaff out there can join the evangelicals, that go against just about everything good about Christianity and vote for the likes of Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon.

My thoughts are with every gay, lesbian and particularly trans Polynesian youngsters out there that have just copped another kick in the guts. Sadly from those players that often have more education on such matters, along with the power to make positive change within their communities than most.

I take it you consider yourself as wheat?
Dont answer, we all know you do lmao…

Yeah it could and that was my original post…Polynesians and Muslims make up a large part of the rugby league community.
If this happened at Penrith they may have had to forfeit the game.
Missed that apologies

Pretty good reason for Penrith not to attempt the same thing lol.

I could be wrong but the importance of events like this are not just for the members of the gay community that are comfortable in their skin and living life. It’s for the people that have to hide it. To show a unified front for these people would be pretty powerful id imagine, even with manly players.

Oh boy the Wests Tigers forum certainly lacks theological knowledge. Just a PSA, if a Christian position seems outrageously stupid to you, you likely don't actually understand it as well as you think you do.
Theological knowledge is opinions and interpretation, it is not the same as facts or proven knowledge. Your post is ridiculous and condescending.

Don’t be so certain about most people waking up. There are large pockets of less mainstream Christianity popping up everywhere. A huge percentage of immigrants are indoctrinated religious of all types. There’s also a vocal minority of footy players and boxers who are converted Muslims for example.
It’s tricky . Religion , mainly Christianity is the reason society has all the order and function it does , as most values due to colonialism have some root in it , because of the pilgrimages and as I said colonialism.
So yes we do live in generally speaking the safest time in human history . But that’s not to say it hasn’t reached it’s used by date. The problem is many have replaced it with capitalism , and that shit is the devil .
So others have seen this even if they couldn’t put thier finger on it , and called it the degradation of society or whatever ,and gone further into religion .
Then Islam offers an alternative especially for darker skinned folk who didn’t fit into what colonialism, and remnants of that including naziism , So they find peace in that .
For me , I feel like inner peace seems like the answer . Yet I am completely incapable of it . Like most I would assume .
For me I don’t care if 2 dudes share a bed together and love each other . But I still whince when I see them kiss . And I have no idea why. When I really think about it . Is it my own toxic masculinity ? Is it a facade or a front I have to put on because society says so ? Is it because the Christian god says it’s wrong , and that shit was drummed into me as a kid , so I’m like an escaped cultist trying to ooze out of the brainwashing ? Or are they right , and it is wrong ? I have no idea. But I do know that if 2 random people I’ll never meet can have to her whole existence turned to shit because I can’t deal with my whince . Well then yea , probably that whince is not right .
But hey what do I know … go tigers lol
