Marshall set to sign $4m deal to stay with Tigers

how much should a team pay for marketing exposure? Apparently 4 mil for 5 years.

Way overs. On form he's not worth half that. Yes he's marketable and will be on commercials etc but he is not good for our team any more. Team has to come first.

It seems the only way Tigers will ever win anything oer the next 5 years is if Brooks does become a star, and Benji let's him get the ball. As it is with our current team, we won't win anything until Benji takes his head from the clouds and becomes a team player.

I'd rather spend money on players that will help us win, than players who will appear in papers + tv commercials!

$4mil over 5 years? Overs if you ask me.

Based on his current form, yes, massive overs. Luke Brooks and Mitchell Moses will both be playing FG by then so what are we supposed to do with Benji then? Or do we lose the best up and coming young halves combo in the game?

I'm not sure if this is overs or on the money with the new Salary Cap and Increases factored in? Guys like Thurston & GI will earn $5M over 4 years is the rumours, so $4M over 5yrs is only $800k per year…

While I understand the Club is prepared to honour the original deal, I'm not so sure it is wise to extend any contracts at present that are not due.

The recruitment team have a lot to answer for with the signings they have made over the past three years and now they are spending this money on a player who on his form should be playing in the State Cup.
Get used to mediocrity over the next years!

It appears overs perhaps. However, with the salary cap increases continuing over the next few years, i'll suspect it's probably close to par for a top line player of his profile and importance to the team and club. I for one don't believe Benji's form is anywhere near as bad as some would suggest. No, he's not at his best but I think there are fair reasons for it. One would be the new coach and his ideas for the team and Benji for example.
Statistically he's been great in recent years, I think we're all guilty of expecting him to move mountains and play perfect football like most top line halves. The fact is, this is how Benji plays. It's his style. He's always been impulsive, instinctive and had these errors in the game. Yes, he's improved in these areas but his style is still the same so these things do and still will occur. He's 28 now, these things are not going to change now all of a sudden. He is the player he is.

my biggest problem is the timing.
did we not learn a thing from the sheens signing.

identify the talent still rising and add some years and dollars that will keep you under market, not keep looking to add years to contracts 2 years in advance to players that take up a large amount of cap space.our hands will always be tied.

just reeks of a pr move after the ryan and rhino saga.
signed fulton ,farah and now benji.
how many up and comers?

ohh and now richards is back
the loyalty show from wests tigers.

Yeah love Benji - but not sure he is a $4m player right now. Would like to save a bit of a salary cap and have a decent bid for a tough ball playing forward to compliment woods or a world class center (though doesn't appear to be many available).

next year: 6) benji 7) Brooks then siro moves into the back row or even centres. that is the only possibilty because i dont think potter will be dropping benji anytime soon and Brooks apparently is a star. Plus i think we need siro in our team somewhere he runs hard and tackles well

I'm happy with that!…and agree Woodsy should also be signed up for life.....

Yeah agree completely… give him a 10 year contract, he'll live up to it for sure.
Absolutely needs to be a Tiger for life!

That's my thinking. Benji is off contract at the end of next year. Moses and Brooks would have been playing at least a full season of NYC together this year. Next year id out them both in the State Cup to prime them for the big time in first grade in 2015.

Glenn Jackson is more reputable than a DT article but I still wouldn't take his word as gospel over figures and years

I will be pretty darn angry if we let Moses and/or Brooks go to keep Benji. It would just highlight the terrible planning, recruitment, retention and strategy of the club

Al those people saying its to much, have you seen our attack without him the last 2 weeks? its pathetic yes he is inconsistant and problay will be for the rest of hi career but this guy is a tiger and we need im for life

$4Mil over 5 years isn't overs IMO. With the changes to the salary cap he could probably ask for closer to $1m a year. Don't forget when it comes to his marketability for us the benefits of that continue even after he has retired, albeit in a smaller way but his impact on theclubwill be lasting, especially if he remains a one club player.

Have mixed feelings on this issue.

Big Marshall fan and hope he recaptures his form and stays a tiger for life.

On current form the amount proposed appears to be overs.

I have concerns about signing a 28 year old player on big money for 4 years. The longer the contract the more I fear we may lose quality juniors plus what incentive dose Marshall have if we have tied him up for 4 years. He will never be dropped even though his form at times warrants it.

Blair is a prime example of taking the money and not really performing.

I would like to sign Marshall for 2 years and have options for a further 2 years. In our favour.

I would also like the club to move in a new direction and not be under the influence of Marshall and Farah for another 4 years. They are only getting older and bodies more prone to injuries.

Woods on the other hand should be signed for life and whatever coin we have.

Poor move. The sooner we got rid of him the better. The most overrated footballer since 2005\. Ive never liked him so it #$^% me off to see this.
