Marshall set to sign $4m deal to stay with Tigers

I think it is a good move. Once again i doubt that the figures reported are correct.

I think the next step is to sign up Woods and the best of the up and comers, the rest can be easily replaced with similar quality players if they get snapped but someone else.

Benji did win the Golden Boot 2 season ago and last year led the league in Try assists and Line break assists, despite his inconsistency he is hardly washed up. Scoring plays are big plays and he is still coming up with plenty of them.

So we now have Blair Lawrence and benji not performing on big money .
Next up a out of form over the hill pritchard

So Marshall is the reason we're going so poorly? OK we have a truck load of injuries but we do not have a dominant forward pack.

I sometimes drool over how well benji and farah would go if we had a dominant pack. I still have high hopes for Thompson & Pettybourne to improve but apart from Woods we don't have any big metre men. Blair has improved from last year but he is not a line breaker or a line bender. Neither is bell, fulton, spence or buchanen. BMM goes well in patches. No go forward, no win many games.

Don't blame marshall

Open your eyes.
Hes poor more often than he's good…and been that way for a while

He can do things no one else can, but these moments are once in a blue moon

While ever our main play maker is highly inconsistent, the team will be also
More frustration than fascination im afraid

Benji might not have been at his best this year or last but he was behind a beaten pack and numerous combinations of halfbacks that were not of first grade standard. Give him the right support and I am sure he will be the champion we know he is.

I say Hussah!!

Hussah from me as well.

Benji is the games most lethal weapon if used correctly. Sheens started his road to oblivion with his no.7 nonsense. I hope Potter can resurrect him as Benji is one of only 2 guys in our side that can win any game, against any side, at any given time, with pure brilliance. Give him a god damned halfback and some speed out wide and just watch the tries flow.

So that money hungry 5/8 of ours will be with the Tigers for another 217 years, or it will feel as much. Yes, he was leading the try assists count….so what! he was also leading the bloody error count too...

What about the detrimental impact he has on other young juniors that play in the halves with him? He kills their careers and gives them no confidence whatsoever! He demands the ball 24/7 and rips into them when they make an error. I've seen it. Not to mention, that now, two players make up a huuggee chunk of our salary cap! Farah is worth every cent...benji....ppfffftttt!

Halves pairing? He was going well with Molzten in 2010 but for some reason, Sheens never persisted with Moltzen when he was performing. I'll never give up who but a player told me that Benji always seemsed jelous that Moltzen was getting a lot of credit when they played together....even though they used to live together...There is something about Benji, Ive never liked....Arrogance, greed for money, silent pleasure in the misfortune of others, etc....Im told from many areas, that hes not what you see on tv.

Lui - Well, Lui just couldnt tackle and there were countless games where he did NOTHING. yes they had good games too but inneffective more than not.

Miller - Give the guy a go..Gee! 3 games and gone? The guy is hesitant to move or try anything cause of Benji's influence in the club. If he makes a mistake, hes gone. He was never comfortable.

Brooks - The same thing will happen to Brooks......he'll be a wasted talent at the Tigers!....

Anyone other half I missed?

Benji does more harm than good to our club!

We can spend that money in the cap for much more useful purposes!

imo, great post. well, apart from the money hungry part: i dont blame anyone who earns as much as they can in their career, provided they aren't complete mercenaries that is! and sportsmen have a very short career span relatively.

i think it is an indictment that people are even mentioning his commercial value to the tigers rather than what he is actually paid to do: play league and be a reason the tigers win.

a few seasons ago i was the president of the benji bashers club but relented after 2010 (approx?) where i was happy to admit he had turned it around and really was a great player.

however, i am now very much on the cusp of running for president again, as i truly believe that rather than wasting (yes, WASTING) money on him and basically condemning any and all aspiring young guys to the purgatory that is playing alongside him in the halves the club should try to get as much money for him (hello, warriors?! have benji!!) while they can.

i have nothing against the guy as i have never met him, but love the tigers and just think his race is run. two good seasons (citing 05 and 10) is not the return the club should have had after so much perseverance over the years.

he isnt and never has been a good playmaker, and i think (which is what forums are for…) that by keeping him locked in for 4 years will obliterate the possibility of a young guy (like brooks?) developing into a great player like he could at another club. so we lose that chance and bet all the chips on benji.

i dont think its a good bet.

let's go for the double and sign tim tebow.
marketing will be through the roof.

how the worst defender in the nrl can get the contract he does is a disgrace.
compounded by the fact his attack has no bite.

There is no doubt we will re-sign him because we are the worst run club in the NRL.

The whole place stinks. We need a cleanout from top to bottom.

I've had enough of even hearing his name. Please don't resign him.
If he's in such high demand and playing so incredibly well then there shouldn't be a problem getting the contract he wants elsewhere.

Is this a joke ? Why do we need to upgrade/extend his contract ?
Doesn't he have a contract with us till when 2015 ?

More important people in front of him that need to be resigned/upgraded first.. Woods and Tedesco for starters.

I know I know both still in their twenties and a long way to go before they reach 30 but what the hey lets try something different…. sign our best youngsters first before looking for new pensioners to sign.

Benji has done well for the club but that was in the past. He has been out of form for the last few seasons and he makes too much demand from the club without being realistic. If we keep throwing money at the has been, where do we get the money to pay for the players that can win us matches.Sheens greatest problem like the West Tigers are guilty for paying too many overs, so that there is nothing else for the rest.We are experiencing that now, are we going to continue on this line?We need young strong players that will give it ago whenever they are on the field, not because of the reputation or the past glory. For that amount of money we can get 2 good half backs that will give things ago and earn their keeps and be rewarded.Show us the form and we will show you the money. Benji had always promised the best of him is yet to come, we are still waiting. Benji is good at media work and that will make him a lot of money in time to come, as a footballer and five eights, he is way behind even amongst the new group and I won't pick him in front of any of them this year or the past few seasons. i don't mind Benji and would like him to stay but for that amount of money he can play for the Warriors . If he doesn't produce, any money would be too much.Benji has been outplayed by his oppostion so many times this season or the past few seasons, he is no loner an opponent to be fear anymore. If we are to be successful like EASTS, we will have to let them go if they don't perform, we cannot continue to give excuses and expect to be successful. Perform or go, that is the result for SUCCESS. :sign:

The idea of signing Benji up for a" lifetime" :crazy

Benji seems to have been underperforming, so why would a club pay someone who is not earning their keep such a huge sum :bash This is beyond me. I know at the moment he is still a drawcard for our club, but he won't be if he doesn't start to play a bit of good footy, even Benji as good as he's been (in the long past) will be quickly forgotten :rant :rant :rant I still believe all players should be payed on their performance 😕

A brain dead decision, they should take a leaf out of Penriths book and offload hot and cold players that chew up large chunks of salary cap and buys some hard tough players who turn up every week and have a dig.

IF they are serious about Marshall's extension, the people making the call should be sacked. This is the exact reason this club is in a mess, too many bad bad decisions.

No way Marshall should be given a contract extension…what has he done to earn that ?

Incompetent management making terrible decisions from recruitment to finances have resulted in us now running last and we look like being stuck here for a while.

Old Maggies fans would long remember that we could never keep the players we wanted. And here we are years later bagging the club for keeping one of our favourite sons …. Things have come a long way since then haven't they hey haha !!!

I hope they keep Benji for life ... The joy he has given to me and the premiership I never thought I'd see in my lifetime outweighs all of the above. I doubt even the great Andrew Johns could do much with this team at the moment. I think the Knights ran last with Joey in the team a few years ago didn't they when they went through a season decimated with injury.

Sign him up I say ..... He'll come good.
