Marshall should finish NRL career at Wests Tigers: Lawrence

No thanks, Benji can take his terrible past attitude and shove it. It's like another forumer said (I don't remember who), he had become a cancer to the club. Quite sad really, but that's the Wests Tigers of recent times for you. :bawling

No thanks.

In his prime, he could turn the game on it's head. A truly exhilarating player to watch for the reasons that others have pointed out in that he was just as likely to do something horrific as he was magical and always left the fans in a state of terrified suspense. I once said to my cardiologist that watching Marshall play was the reason my heart was in such a poor state.

I guess it would be "right" that one of our favourite sons finish here, but the game is a business now and while he has certainly shored up his game at the Saints (albeit way too late in his career,) we've moved on and invested in our future.

I'd love to have him back for sentimental reasons, and for people saying it's a business now, we'll i suspect he would shore up plenty of interest / business.

Of course this would all have to happen without dis stabilising the youngsters, but this could also be turned into a positive, Brooks and Moses have both mentioned Benji was their hero growing up. They could get something out of him being back, in my opinion.

The expectation would be that Benji is coming back to play first grade. It would destabilise the young fellas.

What could he coach youngsters?
He was a player that played what he saw, spur of the moment.
Discipline?
Attitude?
Maybe some attack… That's about it.

ink I can just see Buchanan shimmy shimmy woosh under Marshall coaching. What a weapon that would be!

He'd be a positional coach if at all, but coaching is about structures, plans and organisation.
I dont think he'd be a coaches ringole…the media awaits I think

Benji was an enigma. A once in a generation talent. Not as good as Joey, Loch, Thursty and Cronk yet on his day was capable of doing things those 4 could only dream of doing. Sometimes when he played we never looked like winning yet you couldn't rule out a miracle either. He made almost every game unmissable because the magic was ever present. That can't be taught.

However those days are few and far between now and our youngsters need to forge their own paths. I'd love to see Benji return to the club in some form but not as a player. If Taylor is all about structure then Marshal is the wrong fit. I feel sad to say this because he was instrumental in building this club. Maybe he can captain coach the 9's team next year….

Remember when Gary Jack and Elerey Hanley had their second stints at Balmain? It'd be kind of like that. Great sentimentality value but probably not the best for the club long-term.

LOL…Ado-Carr said we didnt have a gameplan for the nines, so benji would be perfect for that

Yep that is right in his wheelhouse.

I dunno Ellery played a few GREAT games in that 1996 comp, bar from the fact he was about half the speed of his younger self. The classic victory over Parra at LO comes to mind.

We had a super mug side back then, was happy to have him back. Kids who started supporting WT in the last 10 years really don't understand how bad a football team can be.

At least those boys played with everything they had. They didn't fold because they were behind. They played with pride in the jersey.

Agreed and I'm sure Jimmy would give it his all if called upon this season. But still…

And yes Hanley had his moments but half his old speed is about right. You're also correct in your assessment of that team. But again whether it was the best long-termdecision to get him back is dubious. Clearly he was no Michael Gillette...

Lawrence seems to be doing a lot of talking lately ..maybe he might try to spend more time on the field for the over 600k he is being paid this season less talk more action thanks!

I agree, although he is only doing his duties I suppose.

Thing I don't like about his talk, is his lack of personal responsibility and passion.

It all seems very scripted and going through the motions

"Boys can beat anyone on their day"

" young and inexperienced" quote annoys me the most. He as one of the more senior players has set the tone for poor performance.

I remember the game he captained against Penrith at Leichhardt in 2014\. He played a terrible game personally, and in the press conference all he spoke about were team errors and inexperience. Where he really should have apologised for his individual performance.

Lawrence isn't part of the plans when his contract expires.
We don't need him at centre and his money could go towards a REAL damaging backrower that can offer more than Chris does.

I don't care what he has to say…
Yeah great clubman, bring Benji back. uhmmmm no.

How many interviews has Woodsy done since being appointed captain? I agree that it seems as though Rowdy is doing a lot of PR of late.

Isn't this mostly because Rowdy was the 9s captain and NRL have been pushing the tournament for the last month? You would have noticed very little talk lately about the pre-season trials from any of the regular-season captains. In fact Tigers have focused quite heavily on JAC in the last two weeks and the guy hasn't even played an NRL game yet.

I reckon Eddie and Snake are also being too hard on Rowdy. He is part of the leadership group, Nines captain and probably our VC after Woods. They have been interviewing him a lot over the last few years, and I for one am happy to see him say total banal, non-controversial things.

For all the media nonsense we've had with Benji and Farah the last 10 years, you'd think we'd be happy to have someone playing straight bat to the media and never getting involved in imbroglio.

Comments like "less talk more action" are just ignorant of the media obligations of the club and players. Ink said it earlier, do you reckon Rowdy went chasing after journos to give his opinion piece about Benji Marshall? No! They just put him in front of an advertising board and stick mikes in his face.

Rowdy is well-spoken, softly worded and projects a squeaky clean image. He's the club's go-to guy for incident- and controversy-free interviews.

Woods on the other hand is not nearly as polished, I absolutely expect some eyebrow-raising comments as captain this year.
