Marshall

Benji is up near the top of the comp for try assists, but occasionally he's just trying too hard, as the last 10 minutes today showed. It's just a shame all of the attack is falling squarely on his shoulders at the moment. Farah would have been handy today, but the lack of first class options at half and fullback are not doing Marshall, or the side any favours.

Crikey, you have courage, introducing perspective and facts into this Marshall free for all

I'm done too....done with this bulls**t forum.

Benji was amazing and you lot are too busy boo hooing to realise how special he is.

Yeah we lost, so what.

Go "support" someone esle.

Well said.

There are some almighty pea hearts on here who have no idea how good we have it.

Oh yeah we have it real good atm don't we? having lost 4 on the trot and being on the bottom of the ladder and all :unamused:

Speaking of pea heart, here's one right on cue.

And cheers knuckle…..this is a very good side that was ridiculously unlucky to lose a game we were supposed to get flogged in.

All is not lost.

What a special day, i've finally been anointed
I'm guessing your in the 'true supporter' club are you? :roll

And still everyone ignores the play 5 minutes earlier when we were only up by 6, **perfect chance for a field goa**l, close it out, up by 7….but he spins it wide for ayshford to score.

Why are you all ignoring that play???

Ummm, a field goal there would have put us up by 7 with around 10 mins to go. Game = not over.

A field goal when we led by 12 puts us up by 13 with 5 to go. Game = over.

'Subtle' difference…............................................

Yeh gee its so easy 24 hours AFTER THE EVENT!!!!

he may have missed the field goal. You seem to think its a given.

Ryan had a chance to score but we all know - didnt.

I'm as disappointed with that result as anyone and in a perfect world the game would have been closed out at 16-4and we would be sitting on 4 competition points. However, the genus that allows Marshall to do those incredible things on the field that very few in our lifetime have ever been able to do, is also what makes him 'flawed' as a football player. He has the belief that anything is possible and should be attempted at anytime and it is this that makes him such an enigmatic player. As frustrating and downright annoying as it is at times, I wouldn't swap him for anyone else in the competition. Take Marshall out of our team at present and we have little attack - it's as simple as that. With Lawrence and Ayshford out of form, Tedesco out for the season, our attacking options are at best limited.
Dumb penalties have been costing us all season thus far and although some of the refs calls in this regard were dubious, we are statistically the least disciplined team in the comp. Every player needs to take responsibility for his onfield behaviour. If we fix our discipline we fix much of our problems.

Ink Eric Grothe Senior ,Manu Vatuvei or Taniela Tuiaki wouldn't been able to crash over to score that try

Benji should of just taken the tackle

You can see he even hesitates for a split second before he threw it

As disappointing as yesterday was I don't think the loss was due to benji going for a try instead of a FG in that last 10 min. Sure beau ended up over the sideline but we still had souths pinned in their own quarter at the scrum. It's the penalties that killed us. Penalties at the worst possible times that just put us under too much pressure. The whole team is at fault for this not one person!

We wouldn't have been leading 16-4 if it wasn't for benji, I wouldn't swap him for any other 5/8

We just gotta cut the errors/penalties out of our game, there's still time to turn it around!!

Thank you HT! Let's put this comment to bed.

Benji is a brilliant player and I will be eternally grateful he is a Tiger. But that play was never, ever on and should not have been attempted.

The first was a great play - Benji drew the defence and off-loaded to Ayshford who had 1 sliding defender to beat. The play in question was never on. Three sliding defenders steaming toward Ryan and he was never going to make it. Everyone at the ground could see a try would have been a miracle.

There is a very simple solution to this problem.
If we are that far in front with only 5 or 10 minutes to go- TAKE HIM OFF.
He is all about trying to score and nothing else - if Sheens has any sense he wouldn replace him.
If he thought it would hurt his ego he could tell him he didn't want him getting hurt :unamused:

Not sure that it would make that much of a difference. Same sort of thing would probably occur, just not quite as often, perhaps. The problem, IMHO is a team one, not just Marshall. In the semifinal vs Roosters, Marshall did come off. When the game could have been decided by a field goal, WT got within 10m of the tryline, only to have both Farah and Lui at the play the ball + dummy half… at the far left side of the field. With both kickers tied up there, it should have gone to someone, anyone, who could take a shot. No communication, no one took the situation in hand. The ball got passed back over to the other side of the field in a attempt to score in the corner. It died when it went over the sideline. That was game over there.

Farah seems to have more of an idea about this sort of thing, but, he's no guarantee. The team seems to run on autopilot quite often. It's like they all forget somebody should be in charge at key moments.

Marshall is trying to do everything on his own…no good....

…this is the problem. Marshall is not a natural half back or the traditional 7\. for all his brilliance there is enough error in his game that says he should not be our main playmaker. we need a traditional halfback at 7\. god we miss lui, just when he was coming good the guy had to go belt his mrs again.
